Breeding a Gu

Time ticked by, and the fighting in the room grew fiercer as the number of Bug-type Pokémon rapidly dwindled.

Some Pokémon collapsed with grievous injuries, while others exhausted their strength and lost the ability to fight!

But the moment they could no longer fight, they were destined to be devoured by their own kind and become nourishment for the Bug King!

Amid the savage fighting, Weedle's body had become covered in wounds too!

Yet he had not paused for a moment. He had just finished devouring a Venonat.

Then he set his sights on a Butterfree that kept using Shield Dust to throw the nearby Bug-type Pokémon into confusion!

Weedle fired a barrage of Poison Sting at Butterfree!

Butterfree flapped its wings, using Gust while dodging Weedle's Poison Sting attacks.

Its light, nimble body seemed to be taunting Weedle.

Weedle hissed, curled his body, then sprang up. His body shot into the air like an arrow loosed from a bow, tracing a perfect arc straight toward Butterfree's abdomen.

Weedle's horn flashed coldly through the air and pierced Butterfree's soft abdomen as precisely as a sharp blade.

Bug fluids splattered!

With a cry of agony, Butterfree shuddered violently. Its wings lost their strength, and it slowly fell from the air!

Eyes red, Weedle was about to crawl toward Butterfree.

Just then, Giovanni suddenly shouted:

"Watch out, Weedle!"

Doctor Liangmu explained to Giovanni from beside him, a trace of pity in his eyes. "This room is sealed off from us. Sound can't get inside."

"There weren't any Kakuna originally. They only evolved over the last few days. I didn't expect one to shed its shell and evolve again so soon."

Inside the room, a Beedrill that had just shed its shell and evolved was charging toward Weedle, its two large white stingers thrusting straight at him like a pair of spears!

Its position happened to be in a blind spot! Danger!

Giovanni's eyes were bloodshot with anxiety as he frantically shouted in his mind.

Whether it was coincidence or had actually worked was unclear.

Weedle, who had been crawling toward Butterfree, suddenly rolled over and dodged that killing blow!

Although the large stinger still tore a gash in his body, it was not fatal, and he also had a chance to counterattack immediately.

A barrage of Poison Sting shot out!

The malnourished Beedrill swung its long spears and used Fury Attack, knocking away every Poison Sting Weedle had fired.

Then it vibrated its wings and charged at Weedle.

Weedle had no choice but to use String Shot to hold it back.

But the thin threads were useless against those sharp stingers and were sliced straight through.

It was still too much to ask a Pokémon in its initial form to fight one in its final form.

By now, nearly all one hundred Bug-type Pokémon had died.

These two were the strongest fighters left.

This Beedrill was the most likely to win, but the Bug King could not be such a feeble creature.

Doctor Liangmu offered his verdict ahead of time. "This attempt may have failed."

Giovanni did not answer him. He simply clenched his fists and stared fixedly inside.

Squish!

The venomous stinger on Beedrill's tail stabbed straight into Weedle's body!

The intense pain made Weedle let out a piercing scream as Beedrill lifted him bodily off the ground.

As though showing off its might, Beedrill held him in midair, turning and toying with him.

Weedle seemed utterly exhausted and let it do as it pleased.

Giovanni kept staring at Beedrill until streaks of blood even appeared in his eyes.

His persistence paid off, and Giovanni finally spotted an opening. He shouted, the Viridian Force within him growing steadily stronger, "Its abdomen! There's a patch on its abdomen that must have been injured when it forced its way out of its shell! Attack there!"

Doctor Liangmu helplessly reminded him again:

"I told you, shouting won't help. Even if it heard you, it couldn't do anything in its current state."

Giovanni gritted his teeth and forced out each word. "No. It can!"

Suddenly, Weedle, who had been on the verge of death, jerked into motion!

He drove his sharp horn fiercely into Beedrill's abdomen.

Again and again!

Beedrill let out a hiss of agony. Weedle had actually torn open its abdomen!

Its body grew extremely unsteady, and it thrashed its tail stinger wildly, trying to shake Weedle off!

But Weedle clung to it like a burr, gripping it tightly with his abdominal legs and attacking with all his strength.

Beedrill could no longer hold on and fell straight to the floor, swinging its large stingers as it fought Weedle.

Green bug fluids kept splattering...

The two Pokémon rolled and struggled on the floor, pouring every ounce of their strength into killing each other!

Shrill hisses echoed inside until, at last, neither of them moved.

And as their battle ended, none of the other Bug-type Pokémon in the room moved either.

They all seemed to be dead!

Doctor Liangmu patted Giovanni's shoulder somewhat helplessly. "It failed. Don't worry. I'll take responsibility with the boss."

"We just brought the healing machine over for nothing."

Giovanni only said:

"Open the door."

Liangmu tried to dissuade Giovanni. "They're already dead. Why bother? It's full of venom in there. Once I breed a true 'Bug King,' I'll give the first one to you."

Giovanni spoke again:

"I said, open the door."

Seeing how stubborn Giovanni was, Doctor Liangmu could only wave at Xiao Chuan. "Open it."

Once Xiao Chuan opened the door, Giovanni took the gloves and gas mask he handed over and walked straight inside.

He headed directly toward where Weedle had just been.

The sticky bug fluids and venom on the floor were disgusting, but they could not stop him either.

When he saw Beedrill's corpse, Giovanni pushed it aside. Pinned beneath its body was Weedle, now covered in huge, hideous puncture wounds.

But he seemed to have no life left in him at all.

Giovanni hastily placed his hand on him, ignoring whether any venom remained on his body, and simply used his Viridian Force with all his strength.

Sizzle!

Venom ate into Giovanni's palm. His face contorted as he drove his Viridian Force to its limit, the color gradually draining from his face. "Wake up! Did I say you were allowed to die?!"

Green light flooded Weedle's body, awakening the life that remained within him!

His eyes snapped open, scarlet and filled with brutality and murderous intent, and his mouth clamped down hard on Giovanni's arm.

Blood flowed down Giovanni's arm and into his mouth.

As though he had not noticed the pain in his arm at all, Giovanni simply stroked his back and said gently:

"I'm sorry. I let you take this risk, and that made you suffer so much!"

Weedle's bite slowly loosened, and the blood-red color gradually receded from his eyes. He gave a low whimper. "Woo-oh..."

Doctor Liangmu shouted in shock:

"It really came back to life?!"

Unlike Doctor Liangmu, whose old eyes had grown dim, Xiao Chuan had an unreadable gleam in his eyes.

He seemed to have seen something.
