In the hotel suite, with rain falling endlessly outside, the curtains were drawn tight, leaving the room dark and lightless.
Fu Hanchuan slowly opened his eyes. Mist clouded his gray-blue eyes, and his vision remained blurry for a long while before gradually clearing.
Fu Hanchuan sluggishly propped himself up into a sitting position and brushed back his disheveled black hair. A sharp pain stabbed through his head.
His body felt exhausted, as though he had done some physical labor. His limbs were sore and heavy, yet inexplicably carried the ease that came after release.
Fu Hanchuan gently rubbed his temples. Once the inexplicable pain eased, he turned his head and realized he had slept on the sofa.
What happened?
Fu Hanchuan looked down at his rumpled clothes and the strangely knotted tie around his neck. Frowning slightly, he tried hard to recall what had happened last night.
Just as he began to get somewhere, his memories grew muddled again.
His memories of last night were fragmented, blurred as though covered by a veil. He tried to grasp those missing stretches of memory, but found only scattered fragments.
He had attended a business partner's banquet.
He had drunk alcohol.
Someone seemed to have come looking for him, and he had avoided them.
Then he had returned to his room.
And then fallen asleep?
Fu Hanchuan frowned deeply and forcefully kneaded the aching space between his brows.
Since when had his alcohol tolerance become this bad?
Only after taking a long while to recover did Fu Hanchuan rise from the sofa. He picked up his phone from the floor nearby and looked around the room for some time, confirming that nothing was amiss.
He leaned back against the sofa in irritation, opened his contacts, and made a call.
In a hospital room.
