Sunset Forest Soul-Ring Hunt

Xuan Zi led a Shrek Supervision Corps team to Sunset Forest to eliminate Evil Soul Masters and assist students in obtaining Soul Rings. He assured the group that they could call his name in any crisis, then left Zhang Lexuan to organize the actual formation. 36

During the expedition, he separated from the team to catch a Twenty-five-thousand-year Chicken-type Soul Beast. In his absence, the group was attacked by the near-hundred-thousand-year Three Soul Ghost Mantis, resulting in Wang Chen’s death and other severe injuries. Xuan Zi returned carrying the chicken, realized what had happened, and wept under the students’ accusations. 38

After the mantis escaped his initial grasp, Xuan Zi released the Godly Taotie Bull Avatar in rage and pursued it. His conflict with Jing Hongchen over the creature’s Soul Ring ended when he chose not to escalate the situation while students remained in his care. 39 40

Reserve Team Selection

Following the Freshman Assessment, Xuan Zi approved granting core-disciple treatment to all unselected disciples with suitable potential, intending to motivate them for the upcoming Reserve Team selection. 70

Hands of Death Bandit Mission

Before the Soul Master Competition, Xuan Zi led Shrek’s main and reserve members toward the Ming Dou Mountain Range to exterminate Evil Soul Masters. He presented the mission as practical training and a means to protect local civilians. 140 141

Initially satisfied that the students had overwhelmed the Hands of Death Bandits without losses, Xuan Zi was caught off guard by the Death God Messenger’s Corpse Explosion. Yao Haoxuan died, Dai Yueheng lost his left arm, and the ensuing chaos killed Chen Zifeng and Gongyang Mo while leaving other students severely injured. 145 146 147

Driven by rage and guilt, Xuan Zi pursued the Death God Messenger through the mountains. His reckless chase dislodged rocks that further endangered the wounded, but he later rescued Xu San Shi after the messenger attached a timed explosive to him. 146 148 The pursuit continued into Sun Moon territory, where Jing Hongchen publicly exposed that the Level 98 Taotie Douluo had been chasing a Five-Ring Soul King. 149

Xuan Zi eventually killed the Death God Messenger despite Jing Hongchen’s demand that the captive be interrogated first, provoking a confrontation with Mingde Hall’s Hall Master. 152

Guilt and Sea God Pavilion Hearing

After returning to Shrek, Xuan Zi voluntarily offered to resign from the Sea God Pavilion over the deaths under his command. The elders persuaded him to remain, but his guilt drove him to attempt suicide by severing his own heart meridian. 154 155

He later safely escorted the recovering Dai Yueheng to the Medical Immortal Douluo and supported Wang Yan’s decision to preserve injured team members for the later stages of the competition. 157

Experiment No. 1 Negotiations

Mu En tasked Xuan Zi with negotiating for blueprints connected to Mingde Hall’s Experiment No. 1 project. Jing Hongchen used the opportunity to demand a Sun Moon Branch Campus at Shrek and initially supplied only half of a component blueprint. 172 177

Xuan Zi ultimately obtained one and a half blueprints, judged the result as mostly completing Mu En’s mission, and reported Jing Hongchen’s branch-campus plan to Wang Yan. 177

During the tournament, Xuan Zi remained focused on strengthening Shrek’s lineup. He expected Ma Xiaotao’s advancement to Soul Sage to give Shrek a decisive advantage in the finals. 177
