Background / History

Jing Hongchen leads Mingde Hall and is deeply invested in retaining elite Soul Guidance researchers for the Sun Moon Empire. When Xuan Ziwen considers returning to the Tian Hun Empire, Jing argues that Ziwen's family history, Kong Deming's mentorship, and his research contributions have already made him an important Sun Moon citizen. 39

During the pursuit of the Three Soul Ghost Mantis, Jing confronts Shrek's Xuan Zi with a Ninth-Grade Energy Gathering Soul Guidance Cannon. Although his cannon has already charged, he activates two additional Ninth-Grade defensive tools and takes to the air before engaging, forcing Xuan Zi to de-escalate rather than endanger the students under his protection. 40

After receiving Xuan Ziwen's recommendation and hearing Xu Sheng's report on Huo Yuhao, Jing recognizes Yuhao's exceptional potential. He arranges for Yuhao's recovery at Mingde Hall and intends to cultivate him into a future pillar of the Sun Moon Empire. 50 Yuhao's Boltgun assessment greatly exceeds Jing's expectations, convincing him that the Soul Tool has major technological value as well as destructive power. 55

Jing actively fosters Yuhao's ties to the Hongchen family and Mingde Hall. When Huo Yuhao and Meng Hongchen reveal their One-Word Dou Armor, Jing is initially shocked that their work has surpassed the performance of his own full-body Soul Guidance Armor. Jing later uses the proposed exchange with Shrek Academy to advance the Sun Moon Branch Campus plan. Jing Hongchen is a short, fat man with a protruding belly, usually wearing robes with a white metallic sheen. Despite his genial smile, he carries himself with the authority expected of Mingde Hall's master. 39
