The long, boring memorial service lasted a full hour or two before it finally ended.

Before leaving, Homelander specifically sought out Solomon. He said nothing, simply staring straight at him until Solomon felt unnerved.

Solomon suppressed his discomfort and spoke first, breaking the silence.

"What is it, Homelander?"

With his hands behind his back, Homelander said flatly:

"The Deep came to see me last night. He said you were going to kill him."

Solomon blinked and immediately understood. So The Deep hadn't gone to the club last night because he'd run off to tattle to Homelander.

He couldn't help rolling his eyes inwardly, silently griping that the guy was truly pathetic. Running off to tattle because he couldn't win a fight-what the fuck was there even to say?

He immediately put on an innocent, well-behaved expression, his tone frank.

"Why would I kill him? If I really wanted to kill him, he would've died last night. I just wanted to knock him out, you know that."

Homelander took a deep breath, fighting back the urge to beat Solomon to death.

This guy was still useful!

"Other Supes don't matter, but don't touch anyone in The Seven! Even if you're going to attack them, tell me first! I! Am the captain of The Seven!"

Solomon nodded obediently and immediately agreed:

"Yes, yes, yes, you're right. You're the captain of The Seven. If anything like this happens again, I'll be sure to report to you beforehand."

Only then did the chill on Homelander's face ease slightly. He nodded in satisfaction and raised a hand to pat Solomon's shoulder, so hard that Solomon nearly stumbled.

"Very good! Keep watching Maeve."

With that, Homelander lingered no longer. He shot into the sky in an instant, becoming a tiny black dot that quickly vanished beyond the horizon.

Solomon tilted his head back, watching Homelander's departing figure with a trace of undisguised envy in his eyes.

Fuck, why hadn't he run into a Supe who could fly yet?!

Just then, a cool voice came from beside him.

"Want to talk?"

Solomon turned to see Maeve standing in the shade of a nearby tree, watching him with a complicated look in her eyes.

He nodded and walked briskly over to her, his tone somewhat helpless.

"Sure. Homelander told me to follow you anyway."

Maeve nodded thoughtfully. Without another word, she turned and walked toward her car.

"Follow me."

Solomon shrugged and silently followed Maeve, opening the car door and settling into the passenger seat.

The engine started, and the car slowly pulled away from the square, heading into the distance.

The car was silent except for the soft rumble of the engine.

Maeve held the steering wheel, her eyes fixed on the road ahead. After a long silence, she finally couldn't help speaking, her voice filled with lingering regret.

"I could have saved them. If I'd held out a little longer, been a little more decisive, things might have turned out differently."

Solomon couldn't help rolling his eyes, inwardly grumbling.

Why was she still hung up on this? She just couldn't get past it.

He spoke flatly, ruthlessly exposing her self-deception.

"No matter how hard you insisted, you couldn't have saved them. You can't fly. There was no way you could get an entire planeload of people out of danger. As for Homelander, he never intended to save those people in the first place."
