He went back into the courtyard and briefly explained what had happened to both sets of elders, then returned to Guangzhou with Yan Tao amid his parents' reminders. After so many years apart, Yan Tao was no longer as thin as she had once been. Though her clothes were ordinary, she had a scholarly air about her. Seeing her remain silent and worried throughout the journey, Lian Youming could only change the subject. "When did you come to Guangzhou?"
Yan Tao forced a smile. "The year before last. Duhe took me to your rented place a few times before, but we never found anyone there. Your elder brother and the others said Lingyun had gone back to Xijing, and business was rather busy, so we didn't go over much after that."
That was putting it rather tactfully.
Lian Youming smiled wryly to himself. Presumably, his double had kept avoiding them, and that old fellow Sun Duhe must have been seething, thinking he was deliberately distancing himself.
If he rescued him, there would definitely be plenty to hash out.
Seeing Yan Tao carrying the child the whole way, constantly shifting her arms, Lian Youming took the little one, who was just over a year old, into his own arms. But he noticed something bulging at her waist. From its shape, it looked like a pistol.
