In Edgar's original plan, having Doppelganger take Bombsight's appearance would most likely draw only Soldier Boy.
He hadn't expected Homelander to insist on fucking tagging along.
So he could only change the plan on the fly and have Doppelganger and Bomb Man make a little sacrifice.
Doppelganger had been forced into it, but that no longer mattered.
"You..."
Dr. Vogelbaum wanted to keep trying to dissuade him, but Edgar shot him a fierce glare that frightened him into silence.
For someone who had maintained absolute rationality for so long to suddenly reveal such an emotional side was undoubtedly a tremendous shock.
"There has to be a chance, there has to be a chance..." Edgar muttered to himself, and it was impossible to tell whether he was praying or deluding himself.
As though the gods had truly heard Edgar's plea, an "opportunity" presented itself.
Soldier Boy waved a dismissive hand. "Forget it. We won't find anything anytime soon. You head back first."
"Hmm?" Homelander raised his eyes. "You're not leaving?"
Soldier Boy smiled. "I never went to college. I'll try it out for a few days and keep looking around while I'm at it. Maybe I'll find a lead."
As he spoke, he also gave Homelander a meaningful look.
Homelander understood and nodded almost imperceptibly. "Don't get anyone killed."
He flew away after leaving that inexplicable remark, leaving Soldier Boy baffled.
What did he mean, don't get anyone killed?
What was that dumb kid talking about now?
Only when Soldier Boy's gaze happened to sweep over those enthusiastic female college fans did he understand.
"Fuck." The corner of Soldier Boy's mouth twitched uncontrollably.
He knew Homelander had fucking misinterpreted his look again. Last time, it had been about not wanting Stormfront on the team.
*Why did it always feel like Homelander
