The situation on the main battlefield in Silithus had reached a bitter stalemate. The Alliance forces and the Aqir fought repeatedly over the defensive line where the Scarab Wall had once stood. After Dick broke the seal, it had become a loose boundary between the two sides, strewn with stones and debris.
The human heavy cavalry on the left flank charged hardest. They were fast and clad in heavy armor, and every company of knights was led by a paladin. Under the effects of their aura spells, the heavy cavalry became far more dangerous. Even ferocious Aqir warriors were sent flying when struck head-on. The unlucky ones were trampled by warhorses when they landed, their bodies and flesh ground into the earth.
But they also suffered the heaviest casualties!
Even with gnomish and goblin aircraft constantly dropping Engineering Bombs from above to cover them, the Seventh Legion heavy cavalry under Leoric had suffered a staggering thirty percent casualty rate. Such losses would have been enough to break any other force, yet on a vast battlefield with over a hundred thousand allied troops and a slightly smaller Aqir army numbering no fewer than a hundred thousand, the casualties among Leoric and his men were only moderate.
The first wave of orc, human, and dwarf warriors to enter the battle had been virtually wiped out. Even the orc wolf riders, renowned for their mobility, had withdrawn after suffering excessive casualties. The last reserves had been sent to the front. Even the night elf sentinels, slender compared with the Aqir, had no choice but to step forward and form a second defensive line in front of the mages and archers.
If the first line broke, these night elves would have to buy time against the Aqir advance with their lives.
