The Ahn'Qiraj Evil Kingdom had been pieced together from two parts. Within the vast space behind the Scarab Wall lay an ancient battlefield left over from the War of the Shifting Sands a thousand years ago. This had originally been where the lower-ranking Qiraji lived. During that brutal war, the Dragons and Elves had occupied it as their front line, only for the Twin Emperors to reclaim it with the Aqir Kingdom's last elite troops.

Later, it had been used as a hatching ground for larvae. After the Alliance Forces stormed the Ruins Battlefield, almost all the larvae there had been burned to ashes, while the two Qiraji broodmothers, Buru the Devourer and Ayamiss the Hunter, had been slain by the Heroes. By now, night had fallen, and the soldiers were clearing the battlefield by torchlight.

In the deepest reaches of the Ruins Battlefield, in the Mysterious Region farther south of Ossirian's Great Platform, a battle unseen by ordinary soldiers was still underway.

A pitch-black Nightsaber prowled through the darkness. He leaped down from a bare wall and landed silently and precisely on a Qiraji Gladiator's head. His sharp claws tore open the Aqir's throat in an instant, splattering foul-smelling blood everywhere.

His claws also shattered the Aqir's heart. The enormous black creature fell to the ground, struggled twice, then fell still and silent.

The Feral Druid raised his head and looked into the darkness ahead with a humanlike gaze. This hunter in the dark padded swiftly and silently onward on his four cushioned paws, soon vanishing into the darkness again.

There were many more hunters like him in the darkness: Theramore's Theramore Wardens, Stormwind City's SI:7, Kul Tiras's Wandering Skirmishers, the Orcs' Kor'kron Assassins, the Zandalari Trolls' Headhunters, and skilled stealth operatives summoned from the mercenary world. Under cover
