From the day it was sealed off, shattered Mardum had grown even more chaotic, though it had at least maintained a bare minimum of order. Unfortunately, after the Illidari launched their all-out assault on the westernmost reaches of the continent that morning, that exceedingly fragile balance collapsed completely.
The Crimson Firebrand, the Ashtongue, the Krokul, and the Shivan-the four strongest armies under the Illidari-advanced toward the far west from four directions, sweeping aside everything in their path. Before that once-silent dead land, the toughest demon armies in all of Mardum sprang up as though by magic. Both sides fought to the death on the ground of this shattered world, but the Illidari had come well prepared. Especially after the Astral Dreadnought Tempest Keep's three escort ships descended from the stars and joined the battle with energy beams no mortal thing could withstand, the collapse of the entire demon front became only a matter of time.
High in the distant sky, enormous fel energy meteors summoned by demon warlocks fell from above, raining ceaselessly upon both battle lines. The shadows those searing, dark green meteors traced across the sky looked like omens of an approaching apocalypse. Beneath those earth-shaking fiery meteors, the slaughter continued.

With a low, muffled sound, a dark green blur flashed across the chaotic battlefield. Cairne Sunfury descended from the sky, crashing like a meteor onto the shattered ground already engulfed in scorching fel energy shells and burning flames.
