"But that little brat really does rub me the wrong way."

The driver suddenly made the remark out of nowhere.

The other two looked bewildered and instinctively searched the surveillance feeds, trying to figure out who the driver meant.

But they found nothing.

"Wait!"

"Where's that Yu Sheng?"

Monitor A reacted faster, becoming the first to realize something was wrong. He frantically searched through the surveillance feeds, but still found nothing.

Yu Sheng seemed to have vanished into thin air.

"Stop looking!"

"If you could find him, you wouldn't be desk clerks."

The driver snarked, stood up, and casually pulled open the noisy iron door with a piercing screech, looking indifferently outside.

Yu Sheng was standing right in the doorway, calmly meeting the driver's gaze.

Neither spoke.

"How did you find this place?"

Monitor A frowned slightly as he looked at Yu Sheng in the doorway and asked.

"Footprints."

Yu Sheng pointed at the floor.

On the lightly dusted floor, footprints were indeed visible if one looked closely under the light, but they were very faint.

They had arrived half a day early, and the factory was very dusty. Half a day was enough to cover most of their footprints, so they should have been easy to overlook.

On top of that, the teachers and students had made quite a commotion coming in, obliterating most of the footprints.

Were people from Sin City... really all this freakish??

For a moment, the two sank into profound self-doubt.

Soon, Monitor A turned a thoughtful gaze toward the driver.

This guy seemed to have been the last one in.

He must have left...

"Don't look at me. I don't leave footprints when I walk."

As though guessing his thoughts, the driver spoke flatly, then looked at Yu Sheng with a slight smile. "Come in and sit?"

"Mm."

Yu Sheng nodded lightly and walked right in without hesitation. He surveyed the rather sparse surroundings before finally sitting on the edge of the bed.

"Why aren't you helping your classmates?"

The driver pointed at the surveillance feed as he asked, a trace of coldness in his voice.

By now, Du Xu had several wounds on his body.

The same was true of Zhao Zicheng and the other students who had chosen to step forward.

"Because they won't die."

Yu Sheng looked somewhat bewildered and puzzled, as though he did not understand why the driver would ask such a pointless question.

The driver choked on his words, momentarily finding himself unable to argue.

But he soon spoke again. "Then suppose I won't intervene, and they'll all die if you don't save them!"

"What would you do?"

Yu Sheng looked even more bewildered, his gaze turning a little odd as he looked at the driver. "That Dog Demon is really weak. They won't die even if you don't intervene."

The driver froze for a moment, then irritably ruffled his hair. "Suppose!"

"What if that Dog Demon suddenly got stronger?"

Yu Sheng shook his head. "He won't get stronger."

"Then I'll fucking make him stronger! How about that?"

The driver practically roared.

Yu Sheng's expression turned solemn, and he shook his head seriously. "That would constitute indirect killing, or even murder. Under Article 75 of the Ink Pavilion Criminal Law, it's punishable by a fixed-term sentence of at least seven years, or even death."

His words rang out with conviction.

They even carried a note of admonishment.

The driver: ???

How the fuck did I end up sentenced to death in the middle of this conversation?

I was clearly trying to teach him unity and friendship. How did I become the criminal instead?

The most ridiculous part was...

Why was this guy so familiar with the Ink Pavilion Criminal Law?!

Fuck!

Even I don't fucking know it in that much detail.

"Fine!"

"If I were the one trying to kill them right now, would you save them or not?"

The driver took a deep breath, forcibly keeping himself calm as he asked again.

Yu Sheng shook his head once more.

The driver's expression grew increasingly cold, his earlier appreciation for Yu Sheng gradually disappearing.

No matter how outstanding a selfish person was, they were of no benefit to humanity.

"They're your classmates."

"Would you really just watch them die?"

There was no emotional fluctuation in the driver's voice as he said this.

Yu Sheng's gaze now held pity as he looked at the driver. "I can't beat you. How would I save them... die alongside them?"

"I'd be better off reporting it to the police and claiming some death benefits for them."

"Under Article 162 of the latest Campus Policy issued by the Ink Pavilion this year, enrolled students who die while carrying out missions away from campus during their apprenticeship are eligible for thirty to fifty thousand in death benefits."

"And witnesses who voluntarily report the murderer and provide information about them also receive a reward."

"Someone who murders eleven apprentices qualifies as a major wanted criminal."

"I could get around a hundred thousand."

"Putting it that way..."

"Will you kill them?"

Yu Sheng pondered as he spoke, then suddenly raised his head, a trace of anticipation in his eyes.

The driver could no longer describe exactly what he was feeling.

It was like...

He wanted to end this awful conversation, yet could not quite accept defeat.

He couldn't concede.

"Then have you considered that I might kill you too?"

Killing intent began to radiate from the driver.

His aura locked onto Yu Sheng as well.

His gaze toward Yu Sheng was all the more indifferent.

Yu Sheng shook his head. "I can't beat you, but you can't kill me."

His aura deflated.

The driver slumped back into his chair, the powerful presence he had just exuded vanishing in an instant.

Monitor A and Monitor B exchanged a glance and wiped the cold sweat from their foreheads.

Even they had nearly believed the driver was about to kill someone.

The pressure was easy to imagine.

"I'll ask one last time. If your classmates were in danger, and you happened to have the ability to save them."

"Would you intervene?"

By now, the driver had abandoned all the fancy tricks and simply asked outright.

Almost without hesitation, Yu Sheng nodded, looking as though the answer were obvious.

"Of course I'd save them."

"Under Article 95 of the Ink Pavilion's reward policy, the Enthusiastic Citizen Award, and Article 53 of the Awakened Regulations, acts of bravery."

"For every person I save, as long as I keep evidence, I can claim a reward at any Ink Pavilion branch."

"I've analyzed it carefully. You can actually claim both rewards at the same time."

"About... thirty thousand?"

The driver sank into thought again.

But this time, it was not out of anger, but regret.

I seem to have... performed quite a few acts of bravery myself. I've saved more than ten people in the wilderness alone. Thirty thousand per person...

Doesn't that mean I've missed out on over three hundred thousand?

With that money, couldn't I have exchanged it for another higher-quality crystal? What if I'd made another breakthrough?

Most importantly...

Why had this guy studied the Ink Pavilion's laws and policies so thoroughly?!
