Background / History
Farm Takeover
Red-Eyes took over the farm originally known as Uncle Muchou's Farm and marketed its sauce under the Red-Eye Farm label. It destroyed the old packaging, although one tin bearing the original farm name survived in a buried wooden box 25 26.
To increase production, it replaced every other crop with tomatoes and substituted higher-yielding Wailing Tomatoes for the Fragrant Tomatoes used in the original recipe. When customers complained about the declining flavor, it called the change a necessary sacrifice for greater output. The business brought substantial profits, with customers including Happy Apartment, Sky Ladder Department Store, and Rose Hotel 16 26.
Farm Instance and Task Traps
In the level-one instance Uncle Red-Eyes' Farm, Red-Eyes greeted five players as temporary workers, then demanded one hundred Sky Ladder coins for the “opportunity” to work. It assigned chores to be completed before dark and left to attend another instance 15 16 17 18.
| Player | Assigned work | Hidden difficulty or outcome |
|---|---|---|
| Zuo Cheng'an | Kill 100 Steel-Toothed Rats | A hidden quest. Red-Eyes initially demanded a thousand before correcting the quota to one hundred; Zuo Cheng'an completed it 17 20. |
| Wang Guangfei | Bring all 21 sheep into the pen | The twenty-first sheep was a sheepskin rug inside the farmhouse. His task was eventually recognized as complete 21 28. |
| Youyou | Fill the warehouse with undamaged tomatoes | Frightened Wailing Tomatoes rapidly spoiled. Her damaged harvest failed the requirement 16 27. |
| Fu You | Collect every egg | Initially assigned egg collection; later exchanged duties with her injured sister 17 20. |
| Fu Yu | Clean the cowshed completely | Initially assigned cleaning; both sisters ultimately completed their work 17 20 26. |
Concurrent Battle in *Nowhere to Escape*
While the farm players worked, Red-Eyes returned to the level-three ship instance Nowhere to Escape. Its arrival increased the instance's difficulty and strengthened the zombies, including making their virus resistant to the players' available treatments 20 34.
When Gan Ran led the party toward the escape pods, Red-Eyes blocked the only route with zombie underlings. The players initiated a boss battle and forced it into retreat. Only twenty-odd members of the hundred-person party survived; Red-Eyes escaped while the survivors prioritized evacuating their wounded 33 34.
It returned to the farm with a severed ear, shredded clothing, a bent cane, and 42.77% HP 25.
Exposure of the Farm's Original Name
Zuo Cheng'an and Mo Dou uncovered the surviving tin of Mu Zhou Farm Tomato Ketchup. Alarmed, Red-Eyes offered several dozen rare items—including spoils taken from higher-tier players—in exchange for it. Zuo Cheng'an refused and used the label to restore the instance's original name 25.
Completing the special quest awarded Zuo Cheng'an the original sauce recipe and explicitly earned Red-Eyes' hostility. Unable to attack a player who had completed his work, Red-Eyes threatened him with future encounters in other instances it oversaw 25 26.
Failed Punishments and Departure
Red-Eyes vented its anger on Youyou, whose failed tomato task had removed the game's protection. It crushed her knees and thighs, enjoyed her screams, and abandoned her bleeding as Steel-Toothed Rats approached 26 27.
It next approached Wang Guangfei expecting another failure, only to discover that his sheep task was complete. Four of the five players had survived—a record survival rate for the self-styled rookie butcher 28.
Wang Guangfei attempted to initiate a boss fight in revenge for Youyou, but canceled before striking after seeing Red-Eyes' true appearance. Red-Eyes subsequently glared at Zuo Cheng'an and vanished 28 29.
Great Purge Preparations
Red-Eyes anticipated the Great Purge as an opportunity to kill freely and take revenge. It believed its standing would make obtaining a Cleaner assignment easy, but no completed appointment is shown in these passages. The threat remained a reason for Zuo Cheng'an to seek rapid improvements before the purge 27 50.
Appearance
- Ordinary appearance: An upright white rabbit taller than a person, with blood-red eyes, a black evening suit, a matching top hat, and a cane. Its clear, high-pitched voice sounds like a child's despite its “Uncle” title 16 17.
- True appearance: A fang-filled mouth capable of opening approximately 180 degrees, with its corners stretching toward its ears; intensely red eyes; and hooked claws extending to twenty centimeters 26 29.
- Battle damage: After fleeing Nowhere to Escape, it has one ear missing, a shredded tailcoat, a bent cane, and no hat 25.
- Perception difference: Youyou and Wang Guangfei see its monstrous appearance when their protection is lost or a boss battle is initiated. Zuo Cheng'an continues to see a comparatively ordinary white rabbit 26 29.
Personality
Red-Eyes maintains a theatrical manner, addressing victims as “dear players” while looking for opportunities to hurt them. It enjoys fear and suffering, treating Youyou's screams as entertainment and regarding humans as inferior creatures 17 27 28.
Its greed governs both its business and its dealings with players. It charges people to work, repeatedly reminds them of their supposed debt, and sacrifices product quality for greater output. The discovery of its original sauce recipe frightens it because the recipe threatens its profits 16 25 26.
Red-Eyes is vindictive and sensitive to humiliation. It assigns Wang Guangfei and Youyou particularly difficult work after they offend it, resents the possibility of peers mocking its unusually high player-survival rate, and looks forward to the purge as a chance for retaliation 26 27 28.
Abilities & Skills
Physical Combat
Red-Eyes can overwhelm low-level players and fight parties containing Third- and Fourth-Tier players 27 33 34.
- Crushes Youyou's knees faster than the eye can follow 27.
- Possesses long, hooked claws and sharp fangs 26 29.
- Is not invulnerable: Gan Ran's party forces it to retreat with serious injuries 25 34.
Oppressive Aura
Its presence exerts pressure on nearby creatures and unprotected players 17 26.
- Frightens Wailing Tomatoes so severely that it restrains its aura to avoid damaging them 17.
- Its crimson eyes cause Youyou dizziness and ringing ears 26.
- Fails to affect Wang Guangfei while his completed task keeps him protected 28.
Health Recovery
Red-Eyes recovers health despite retaining visible wounds. No named regeneration skill is provided 29.
| Observation | HP | Condition |
|---|---|---|
| First meeting | 94.88% 16 | Already below full health. |
| Return from the ship | 42.77% 25 | Missing an ear and visibly battered. |
| Before leaving the farm | 51.75% 29 | Health has increased despite its remaining injuries. |
Instance Influence
Red-Eyes operates in multiple instances rather than remaining confined to the farm 16 20 26.
- Assigns farm quests and checks completion 17 28.
- Its arrival as a ladder boss increases instance difficulty by at least one level 34.
- Commands zombie underlings in Nowhere to Escape 34.
Game-Rule Restrictions
Its power does not override the farm instance's protections 17 26 28.
- Cannot attack players without grounds while they remain protected; completed tasks prevent its intended punishments 26 28.
- Must accept game-recognized completion, including the sheep task's unconventional solution 28.
- Appears constrained by its ordinary-farmer role when Steel-Toothed Rats raid the farm; Zuo Cheng'an infers that this prevents it from simply exterminating them 17.
- Cannot freely impose an impossible quota: its initial demand for one thousand rat kills becomes one hundred, apparently through game intervention 17.
Equipment / Items
- Bloodstained evening suit — Taken from the dressing room in Nowhere to Escape; previously almost soaked through with blood and later shredded in battle 16 25.
- Top hat — Part of its formal outfit; lost during the ship battle 16 25.
- Cane / walking stick — Used while assigning work; bent in battle and discarded before attacking Youyou 17 25 27.
- Rare-item spoils — Items taken from higher-tier players, offered unsuccessfully for the old ketchup tin 25.
- Pipi-made chairs — Two chairs kept in the farmhouse, recognized by viewers through their maker's distinctive markings 21.
Relationships
- Zuo Cheng'an — Enemy. Exposes the farm's original name and obtains its sauce recipe; Red-Eyes threatens future retaliation 25 26 29.
- Mo Dou — Hostile farm NPC. Repeatedly tries to bite Red-Eyes while disguised as a black sheep and later seeks players' help to kill it 17 25 26 30.
- Youyou — Victim. Offends it by using its hated alternative name for tomatoes; after her task failure, it inflicts fatal injuries 16 27 28.
- Wang Guangfei — Intended victim and would-be opponent. Completes the sheep task, then briefly initiates a boss encounter to avenge Youyou 28 29.
- Gan Ran — Opposing party leader. Guides survivors toward the escape pods and leads the group that forces Red-Eyes to retreat 34.
- Pipi — Reported associate. Viewers describe them hosting instances together, though another claims Pipi's friendliness is motivated by free tomato sauce 21.
Notable Quotes
“Since opportunities to work on the farm are so rare, you'll have to pay for this precious chance.” 16
“You little brat! I oversee more instances than you think! You'd better choose carefully next time. Don't fall into my hands again!” 26
Trivia
- Despite being assigned to a ship instance, Red-Eyes hates water and complains about seasickness 18 27.
- It intensely dislikes an alternative Chinese term for tomatoes, rendered as “love apples” or “tomaytoes” in the supplied passages. The surviving old ketchup tin uses that same disliked term 16 25 27.
- The Eye of Truth identifies it as a “deranged rabbit,” accompanied by a gold-lettered message from an unidentified source calling it “actually quite cute” 16.
