Background and History

Earth and the Zhu Family

Xu Ran originates from Earth and retains knowledge of the stories and characters associated with both the Douluo and Dou Qi continents. His familiarity with their original relationships influences whom he pursues and how he approaches rivals 9 166 965.

His identity on the Douluo Continent is that of an orphan from a collateral branch of the Zhu Family. Family records identify his mother as a distantly related Zhu Family woman and his father as a Soul Master surnamed Xu. Before twelve, he had neither cultivated within the family nor attracted its attention 1 882.

His emergence as a twelve-year-old Soul Elder changes the family's assessment of him. After demonstrating strength beyond their expectations, he becomes a core disciple with substantial resources. He then demands that Zhu Zhuqing's engagement to Dai Mubai be dissolved, threatening hostility toward the family if refused. Zhu Zihao agrees, and Xu Ran and Zhu Zhuqing sign a marriage certificate 10 11.

Shrek Academy and the Star Luo Court

Xu Ran defeats Xu Zhan and accepts Dai Weisi's offer of an alliance, receiving a token and ten million Gold Soul Coins. Dai Weisi views him as a decisive asset against Dai Mubai, without realizing the extent of Xu Ran's relationship with Zhu Zhuyun 68 69 260.

After joining Shrek Academy, Xu Ran develops relationships with Xiao Wu and Ning Rongrong while repeatedly clashing with Tang San. His cultivation-enhancing performances and gifts also benefit the academy's students and teachers 77 93 103 116 189.

His reputation earns him the title Heaven's Mandate Marquis. Emperor Dai later appoints him envoy to the Heaven Dou Empire to negotiate peace and cooperation against Spirit Hall. Xu Ran also sees the appointment as an opportunity to approach Qian Renxue, who is disguised as Xue Qinghe 132 267 281.

Soul Beasts and the Xu Sect

In the Star Dou Great Forest, Xu Ran's dual human–Soul Beast nature attracts Gu Yuena's attention. His human body offers a potential route to godhood unavailable to ordinary Soul Beasts, while his bloodlines give him exceptional physical strength and growth potential. He also undertakes the treatment of Gu Yuena's divine injuries 222 240 241.

Xu Ran establishes the Xu Sect as a training organization, teaching cultivation methods, movement techniques, hand techniques, eye techniques, and grappling. He entrusts Shui Bing'er with distributing and teaching the manuals, while Meng Yiran later receives responsibility for its Hidden Weapons Compendium 375 564.

Conflict with the Tang Family and the Gods

Xu Ran's rivalry with Tang San expands into conflict with the Clear Sky Sect. At the sect, he destroys Lieyang with one punch, declares Tang Hao a sinner, executes him, and forces the elders to accept his judgment. He initially spares the sect and leaves with Ah Yin after humiliating Tang Xiao 407.

His battles eventually involve gods. While protecting Qian Renxue from the Rakshasa God, he sacrifices his defense and suffers near-fatal injuries; Gu Yuena takes him away for care. Later accounts establish that he defeats the Rakshasa God despite having only Soul Saint cultivation 486 516 518.

His relationship with Bibi Dong initially creates a conflict with Xiao Wu, whose mother Bibi Dong killed. Xu Ran seeks a resolution rather than abandoning either woman. By the time Bibi Dong and Ah Rou sit together at his bedside, their feud has been resolved 194 679 737.

Continental Supremacy and Federalism

After reaching Titled Douluo, Xu Ran confronts the Sea God and Tang San together. He subsequently regards his strength as beyond every mortal faction and proposes a Douluo Federation instead of direct imperial unification 828 840.

His rise also overturns the Star Luo Empire's balance of power. Forces abandon the Dai Family for the Zhu Family, and Zhu Zhuqing kills Emperor Dai during the struggle that brings the Zhu Family to power 865 895 905.

Xu Ran reassures assembled factions that he will neither unify the continent by force nor plunge it into war for personal gain. Spirit Hall, the Star Luo Empire, the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect, and other powers then support his federal proposal 930 932.

Dou Qi Continent and the Finale

The system transports Xu Ran to the Dou Qi Continent with a mission to become its Child of Fortune, take control of it, and incorporate it into the Divine Realm. Unlike his first arrival in Douluo, he enters this world with overwhelming strength already established 964.

His activities take him through Wutan City, the Mist Cloud Sect, and Jia Nan Academy. He becomes recognized as an alchemist, strengthens the Mist Cloud Sect with improved facilities and resources, and gains notoriety in the Central Plains for opposing the Hall of Souls 979 1006 1158 1164 1258.

By a later return visit, Xu Ran is explicitly the Divine Realm's sole ruler. In the finale, he devours the Dou Qi Continent's world spirit and brings the continent under the Divine Realm's jurisdiction. Dou Di ceases to be its next advancement realm: cultivators above Dou Sheng must instead obtain a divine inheritance to enter the God Stage 1265 1410.

Appearance

  • Facial features: Exceptionally handsome, with sword-like brows and starry eyes 132.
  • Usual expression: Often wears a cynical, playboy-like smile, contrasted with a domineering and confident bearing 324.
  • Sword-bearing presence: Becomes sharply focused when holding the God-Slaying Sword, as though he were a sword himself 4.
  • Later physique: Described as entirely free of blemishes and impurities, with features and proportions that appear increasingly perfect under close examination 1364.

Personality

Xu Ran is openly flirtatious and deliberately pursues numerous women. He frames his harem as a network of lasting relationships rather than temporary conquests, although his partners frequently criticize his wandering attention. His system also rewards his romantic pursuits, giving him a practical incentive to continue them 59 471 747 863.

He is calculating beneath his easygoing manner. He uses foreknowledge, staged situations, and other people's assumptions to improve his standing. During an early confrontation, he deliberately leaves one of Tang San's projectiles untouched and maneuvers Xiao Wu into its path to create an opportunity to win her affection. Later, he publicly offers Tang San forgiveness while privately provoking him 29 340.

His affection can also lead him to take serious risks. He nearly dies protecting Qian Renxue and later suffers severe wounds saving Bibi Dong. These actions deepen the devotion of both women and influence the Goddess of Life's feelings toward him 486 697.

Xu Ran values personal freedom more than national loyalty. He feels little attachment to the countries of his adopted world and refuses to accept the Divine Realm as an authority entitled to control him. Nevertheless, he favors continental stability and peaceful coordination between factions over conquest for its own sake 162 569 840 930.

Abilities and Skills

God-Slaying Sword

Xu Ran's Martial Soul is an exceptionally powerful black longsword whose attributes develop through its Soul Rings and corresponding sword intents 1 222.

  • Artifact grade: The system identifies it as a Super Divine Artifact exceeding ordinary weapons of that grade 664.

System and Skill Points

The system supplies Xu Ran with missions, rewards, knowledge, cultivation resources, and upgrades 1 186 302.
