Yuichiro smiled. "I was thinking, if what's on that door is really so important, could there be something connected to it? Maybe there's a mechanism in that room we haven't even discovered yet, and we need the knowledge on the door to figure it out?"
Tetsu no Sosuke found the idea unusual, but he didn't dismiss it. He considered it seriously. "It's possible."
Yuichiro's eyes lit up. "You think so too?"
Tetsu no Sosuke couldn't help smiling at him. "It's possible, but not very likely. This is an opportunity for us. If we can understand the intricacies of these Mechanism Arts, our own skills will improve. So far, we can't say we've gained anything, but we're on the right track. Still, we can't treat a possibility as fact. Maybe our reasoning is wrong, and what's on that door has nothing to do with the room. We should list every possibility we can think of, but we shouldn't put too much faith in any one of them. Otherwise, disappointment could dampen your enthusiasm. Possibilities are interesting, though. Even one that seems impossible might lead to an unexpected discovery. Don't discard any possibility, but don't put blind faith in one either."
He patted Yuichiro on the shoulder. "Eat. We'll leave when we're done."
Yuichiro thought carefully about what Tetsu no Sosuke had said, but found it rather convoluted and hard to understand.
Tetsu no Sosuke thought for a moment, then summed it up more simply. "Make bold guesses, then test them carefully."
"...Oh!!"
That was much easier for Yuichiro to grasp.
The two hurried through breakfast, got everything ready, and set out.
They knew the way this time and made much better time than on their first trip. They reached their destination before nightfall.
They lit torches, went inside, and made it
