That punch left Sun Liang stunned.
He nearly toppled headfirst to the ground. After finally steadying himself, he clutched his cheek, his eyes wide.
He had never expected the thin, frail-looking Wei Zisu to pack such a powerful punch!
"Fuck!!"
Just as he was about to hit back, Wei Zisu raised his long, straight leg and sent him flying several meters with a front kick. He landed headfirst, squarely inside a trash can with its lid open.
Wei Zisu had wanted to hit him for a long time.
He had wanted to hit him when he heard those arrogant remarks at the banquet.
He had wanted to hit him when he saw the photos of him and Yuan Zizhen in bed.
He had wanted to hit him when he heard him say he would give him a child.
But for Big Brother Sun and Grandma's sake, he had held back. After all, Big Brother Sun and Grandma had been genuinely good to him.
Until he brought up his younger brother. Wei Zisu could no longer hold back; this was a wound in his heart that no one could touch!
The thought of his younger brother sent a pang of sorrow through his heart.
His brother had gone missing at an amusement park when he was three. In the twenty years since, he had never stopped searching. Even though his mother had given up and no longer even mentioned him, he would keep looking.
A large part of why he had chosen to become an actor was that he wanted to rise higher, making it easier to find his brother.
Yet not only had Sun Liang never sincerely helped him search, he had even said his brother might not still be alive.
Those words were practically asking for death!
Sun Liang climbed out of the trash can, his face covered in filth and some unidentified brown broth dripping from his head. He reeked.
Cursing Wei Zisu, he charged at him with no regard for his life.
Wei Zisu was not afraid in the slightest. He put all his strength into every punch and kick, beating Sun Liang until he squealed and howled.
The character he had played in his first film was a highly skilled assassin, with plenty of close-quarters fight scenes. He had never used a stunt double, performing every move himself. To play the role well, he had spent over five months in intensive, closed-door training, never slacking off even during filming. After finishing the movie, he had developed a liking for martial arts and continued visiting his master regularly to learn and train. He had kept it up all these years.
With his current skills, taking on one Sun Liang was a piece of cake, wasn't it? If he gave him even a chance to fight back, Wei Zisu would count that as a loss!
More and more onlookers gathered around, all astonished that an alpha was being beaten so helplessly by an omega. They watched with relish, chattering among themselves, but not one stepped forward to break up the fight.
After all... they were all afraid of touching the trash covering that alpha.
Only when security arrived did Wei Zisu stop. He was glad he was not popular right now and hardly anyone recognized him. Otherwise, the consequence of today's impulsiveness would have been a spot on the trending searches and a storm of condemnation.
Sun Liang had thoroughly humiliated himself this time. Not only was he covered in trash, his face was swollen like a pig's head. He spat out a mouthful of bloody saliva, still remembering to shout after Wei Zisu, "Just you wait!"
Wei Zisu turned his head slightly to glance at him, and he shuddered reflexively.
Wei Zisu ignored him and walked away without hesitation.
He was in a hurry to get back and wash his hands. He had gotten so carried away with the beating that he had not cared about the filth. Now he felt his hands would be beyond saving unless he disinfected them a hundred times.
That afternoon, at the entrance to the Sun family's old residence, Wei Zisu hesitated, holding the box containing the jade bangle.
Although Sun Liang's grandmother and his own maternal grandmother had been close friends, and Sun Liang's grandmother had taken good care of him after his grandmother passed away, they were not related by blood, after all. Sun Liang was her actual grandson.
He had just stuffed her grandson into a trash can and given him a thorough beating, only to turn around and come to her house to return the bangle. Would Grandma blame him?
After thinking it over, he steeled himself. Forget it. Let her blame me! Wei Zisu, you are now playing a weak, wronged omega abandoned by a scumbag. Whatever you do, hide that smile!
After giving himself that mental conditioning, he was just about to ring the doorbell when a car horn suddenly sounded behind him.
He turned around as a black Mercedes-Benz approached, its rear window rolling down.
A man wearing gold-rimmed glasses smiled and called to him. "Zisu."
This was Sun Liang's older half brother, Sun Zhe, who shared the same father. He was also an alpha.
Sun Zhe's mother had died very early on. Later, his father had married another omega, Sun Liang's mother. A few years ago, their father had died in an accident, leaving the enormous family business on the two brothers' shoulders.
On the surface, they were affectionate, respectful brothers, but Wei Zisu knew they were secretly doing everything they could to fight over the assets. Even the companies had been divided up, with clear battle lines drawn.
He owed the "privilege" of knowing all this entirely to Sun Liang's mother's deliberate and seemingly inadvertent disclosures.
Last winter, she had been in poor health while Sun Liang was abroad. As her future son-in-law, Wei Zisu had cared for her for months without so much as undressing to rest, and she had dropped many hints during that time.
He understood that Sun Liang's mother was telling him these things for no other reason than to get him to speak up for Sun Liang more often in front of Grandma. After all, Grandma was the chairwoman of Sun Group. Even though she had barely been involved in the group's affairs in recent years, her words still carried weight.
But Wei Zisu had never done so. There was no particular reason; he simply found it tiresome and did not want to get involved.
"Big Brother Sun," Wei Zisu greeted him politely.
The driver opened the door for Sun Zhe. The alpha stepped out on long, straight legs, his bespoke suit accentuating his tall, lean figure. When he walked up beside Wei Zisu, his broad shoulders made him look particularly imposing.
"Here to see Grandma?" Sun Zhe asked gently.
Wei Zisu nodded. He opened the box in his hands and said, "And... to return the bangle while I'm here."
Sun Zhe recognized the bangle. Grandma had given it to Wei Zisu, saying it was a family heirloom reserved especially for her granddaughter-in-law.
Now Wei Zisu wanted to return it, which meant...
Sun Zhe hurriedly asked, "Zisu, what happened?"
Inside the old residence, Wei Zisu put his finest acting skills to use, recounting what had happened between Sun Liang and Yuan Zizhen with a downcast expression. There was no need to embellish anything. Simply stating the facts was enough to make Grandma slap the table in fury.
"That little bastard! How dare he do something so disgraceful! When he gets here, I'm going to enforce the family rules and give him a proper beating!"
Grandma was nearly eighty this year. Although her hair was gray and her face covered in wrinkles, she was still in fairly robust health and always held her back perfectly straight. A lifetime of comfort and privilege lent nobility and elegance to her every movement.
She adjusted her glasses with their gold chain and took Wei Zisu's hand, her face full of sympathy. "Zisu, you've been wronged. It's my fault for not raising that little bastard properly. After what he said and what he did, you're right to break off the engagement. Even if you went soft and wanted to forgive him, I wouldn't agree. If I tried to persuade you to put up with it for that little bastard's sake, your grandmother would climb out of her grave and strangle me!"
"But..." Grandma continued, "Zisu, you'll be turning twenty-seven this year, won't you? Without an engagement, what will you do if you're randomly matched with some alpha?"
Before you continue
