Behind that composure, she is calculating, guarded, and capable of frightening aggression. She recognizes her own darker impulses and deliberately keeps most people at a polite distance, getting along comparatively well with the Student Council. She traps herself and Yan Huan in the Equipment Room, hoping their enforced closeness will lead to a kiss, and later rigs a prize draw to steer their outing toward romantic attractions. Spencer disrupts both efforts 19 49 124.

Her hidden surveillance becomes a more serious rupture. When a Barrier in the Student Council office is broken, her monitoring equipment and records are exposed. Spencer's later taunts about Yan Huan having liked her leave Hitomi crying over his folding fan amid the wrecked office 119 124 153.

Power, Autonomy, and the Sakuramiya Family

Encouraged to use her advantages more actively, Hitomi discovers self-alteration and subsequently unlocks Personas. The new ability both compensates for her frailty and gives physical form to her conflicting instincts 153 155 200.

Her reluctance to surrender the Modifier is tied to health and autonomy, not merely romantic competition. She tells An Le that she will give it up if she can escape her family's control and be with Yan Huan. She then confronts her grandfather, openly rejects his authority, and insists on leaving with the president 285 302 309.

During a later attack, she risks an uncontrolled outdoor Barrier expansion to prevent a gunman from shooting Yan Huan 318 323.

Personas and the Pursuit of “Perfection”

The internal conflict becomes violent when a healthy Hitomi attacks the frail Sakuramiya counterpart and conceals what happened. Perfect Sakuramiya later claims that absorbing other selves will preserve their strengths while removing their weaknesses. Reckless Sakuramiya challenges this as the destruction of parts of Hitomi rather than genuine improvement 394 420 427.

Perfect Sakuramiya's proposal that Yan Huan be with all the girls is rejected by Ye Shiyu and Bai Yi. Hitomi later explicitly distances herself from Perfect's solution and remains deeply unhappy at the thought of sharing him 514 584.

Confession and Mutual Love

On their Akihabara date, Yan Huan admits that Hitomi was the person he liked at Liang's birthday. He asks permission to kiss her, but she immediately faints when their lips touch 352.

With You Anlina's encouragement, Hitomi finally says aloud that she loves him. She becomes his High Table dance partner and gradually lets go of performing perfectly, focusing instead on him beneath the fireworks 468 545.

She also stands up to Elvira's pressure, insisting that their feelings are mutual and refusing to passively accept interference. Later, while sheltering with Yan Huan during a storm, she confesses that she wants to become his wife. His answering promise breaks Ye Shiyu's hypnosis 556 560 573.

Yan Huan's Death and Its Aftermath

After Yan Huan's death, Hitomi seals the morgue and stops An Le from immediately seeking revenge. She warns that the Modifiers are nearing a critical point and that another disaster would betray Yan Huan's efforts to stop them. An Le agrees to wait until after his funeral 626 639.

Hitomi organizes the funeral, directs Nara's search efforts, and accesses Yan Huan's phone using his previous-life birthday. She handles practical arrangements before returning to the morgue to hold his hand and cry alone. The emotional shock and workload push her already weak body to its limit 626 634 639.

Later, she is reunited with Yan Huan in hospital and asks him not to frighten her with another injury. When his mother offers him a villa, Hitomi recommends properties near her family's mansion instead. By the following Autumn Semester, she remains close to him and treats Bai Yi as an active romantic rival 669 750.
