Background and History

Childhood and Upbringing

An Le was born in Linmen and lived in a rundown South District neighborhood near an orphanage. Withdrawn and rarely included by the other children, she met Yan Huan when he noticed her sitting alone and invited her to play. She prepared birthday presents for him, brought him home for sleepovers, and asked her parents whether he could live with them. Their childhood games frequently cast him as the father and her as the mother 24 51 72.

Her parents and teachers repeatedly taught her to yield, avoid disputes, and consider other people first. These lessons became reasons to tolerate exclusion and bullying: she feared that defending herself would burden her parents or upset someone else. Yan Huan, by contrast, encouraged her to become stronger and stop always putting others first 51.

Their childhood friendship ended when An Le moved away from Linmen. Before she left, Yan Huan tried to comfort her with a handmade bookmark. After returning to Linmen, she attended Totsuki Academy but avoided approaching him for six months, afraid that he had forgotten her 24 29 72.

Meeting Little Finger and Reuniting with Yan Huan

An Le first cared for Little Finger after finding the injured snake on her windowsill. Little Finger subsequently became her supernatural companion and urged her to retaliate against her bullies and pursue Yan Huan 24 241.

Piao Shuwen’s bullying escalated to shoving An Le into a restroom wall and destroying her unsent letter to Yan Huan. Even with supernatural power, An Le remained reluctant to hurt others. When Little Finger later suggested using Superconductor to leave a clothing shop without paying, she refused 29 42.

An Le finally revealed herself to Yan Huan during a haunted-house incident. Hearing him describe his childhood friend convinced her that he still remembered her. She broke down in his arms and admitted that fear had kept her away 50 51.

Conflict with the Other Hosts

Spencer initially protected An Le from bullying and promised to help her get closer to Yan Huan. Their friendship broke when Spencer kissed him and admitted that she could not deny her feelings. An Le rejected the friendship, retreated into the rain, and awakened her tentacle ability while cornered by men in an alley 70 192.

Little Finger exploited the rupture to encourage rapid advancement and confrontations with other Hosts. Although An Le depended on the snake’s companionship, Little Finger privately regarded her as a substitute Host and was willing to gamble with her survival. An Le began targeting Ye Shiyu, Bai Yi, and Hitomi Sakuramiya while believing that removing their Modifiers would help Yan Huan 213 220 232 258.

Repeated injuries and spreading numbness led her to question Little Finger’s claims. She discovered that sincerely considering abandoning her power caused the Modifier pain. By the time she confronted the allied Hosts again, she privately regarded every Modifier—including her own—as harmful to Yan Huan, but concealed how much she understood 262 272.

Sakura Nation and the Tokyo Incident

During Training Camp in Sakura Nation, An Le’s fear for Yan Huan drove another dangerous surge in power. She confronted an armed man, extended her reach to fifty meters, and located Yan Huan fighting nearby. After Tong Yingying severed her tentacles, An Le begged her to rescue him rather than attend to her injuries 318 323.

In Shingō Village, An Le enjoyed a quieter interval with Yan Huan. She admitted making his campaign website, and he challenged her belief that she lacked useful abilities. Although tempted by Little Finger’s offer to keep them in the village forever, she refused a happiness that would serve only her wishes. She contacted Hitomi Sakuramiya so they could return 324 337.

An Le later activated Tentacle Purgatory from Tokyo Skytree and restrained other Hosts, demanding that they relinquish their powers. After suppressing the last of them, she also intended to deal with Little Finger. The deity behind the competition revealed that defeating the other contestants had made her its winner rather than ended the competition as she intended 366 368 371 373.

Yan Huan and An Le escaped Tokyo Skytree but fell from a height of 450 meters. Meow-chan caught them and carried them to a deserted beach near Izu Oshima. Crab Medicine removed An Le’s scales and reset her Modifier progress. After waking, she confessed her jealousy, fears, and love; Yan Huan acknowledged knowing about her powers, explained his efforts to obtain her medicine, and renewed their promise to be together 374.

Reconciliation and Later Life

After returning, An Le increasingly stayed with Yan Huan while her parents focused on their expected child. Yan Huan sought to support her by encouraging her art and reconciliation with Spencer. An Le eventually accepted Spencer’s continued closeness to him and began teaching her how to express affection 428 436 445.

She later cooperated with Hitomi Sakuramiya and accepted a conditional ceasefire with Ye Shiyu. Despite lingering jealousy, she agreed that dealing with the Modifiers took priority over deciding whom Yan Huan might ultimately choose 475 506 584.

When An Le found Yan Huan dead in the hospital morgue, she failed to revive him with her Modifier and set out to kill Ye Shiyu. Hitomi Sakuramiya restrained her, warning that her grief-driven power could recreate the Tokyo disaster. An Le agreed to delay revenge until after the funeral; Yan Huan subsequently recovered 626 639 667.

In later chapters, An Le struggles to decide whether drawing doujinshi should remain a hobby or become her career. She hides her work from her parents and fears disappointing them after attending Totsuki Academy. Yan Huan listens to her concerns and resolves to help 762.

Appearance

An Le has long black hair, fair skin, and a full, curvaceous figure. Her early appearance is marked by shy blushes, lowered eyes, and an unfashionable presentation that contributes to her insecurity 29 42 50 245.

  • Snake tattoo: An illusory, moving snake-shaped mark appears beneath her sleeve or on her hand 16 24.
  • Snake eyes: Her left eye becomes pink and serpentine during advanced ability use; both eyes transform during Tentacle Purgatory 258 366.
  • Pallor: Activating tentacles leaves the body below her neck deathly pale and insensate 224 258.
  • White scales: Spread across her face during escalation and eventually cover her body before Crab Medicine removes them 318 374.
  • Later bearing: Elvira, Ye Lan, and Sakura Palace Yuri notice a composure beyond her years despite her demure manner 482 491.

Personality

An Le is initially gentle, anxious, and intensely conflict-averse. She apologizes for other people’s mistakes, suppresses her own grievances, and treats yielding as a moral obligation. Her reluctance to exploit an innocent shop assistant persists even when Little Finger explicitly encourages it 42 49 51.

Her attachment to Yan Huan combines gratitude, romantic longing, and fear of abandonment. She first tells herself that being remembered would be enough, but later admits wanting a relationship. Spencer’s confession brings out possessiveness and resentment that An Le had previously concealed 29 89 192 202.

Her growing boldness is not simply a consequence of gaining power. An Le recognizes that learning the truth about the Modifiers—and becoming less concerned about what happens to herself—has also made her more confrontational. Behind an accommodating exterior, she can understand deception, conceal her intentions, and cooperate in elaborate performances 272 301 379 515 520.

Her compassion remains important even at her most dangerous. She cares for injured Little Finger, intervenes when an elderly person is at risk of falling from a building, and rejects the opportunity to keep Yan Huan isolated with her forever. She ultimately compares Little Finger’s power to anesthetic: harmful through abuse, but valuable in a crisis 241 310 337.

Abilities and Skills

Pleasure and Pain Manipulation

Her initial ability alters a chosen person’s sensitivity through ranged activation or contact with her snake tattoo 24.

  • Initial ranged method: Once per day, lasting fifteen minutes, against a mentally selected target within ten meters 24.
  • Initial contact method: No duration limit or cooldown, but affects only one person at a time 24.
  • Later ranged use: Pleasure Manipulation reaches fifteen meters, although its non-tentacle applications remain limited 220.
  • Control risk: Overwhelming emotion can activate her power without a deliberate command 51 52.

Superconductor Mode

Superconductor links intense pleasure to An Le herself, encouraging the target to associate contact or interaction with her with positive sensation 42 252.

  • Operates on one designated target within fifteen meters before later range expansion 42 220.
  • Involves memory correction; Little Finger distinguishes it from weaker contact-based pleasure applications 70.
  • Other Hosts possess resistance, so one application may not be enough to overcome them 220 225.
  • It cannot affect Tong Yingying because Little Finger’s earlier partial bond left her with its Host mark 318 323.

Tentacles

An Le summons regenerating tentacles that physically restrain targets and apply Pleasure Manipulation through contact 192.

  • Desire scaling: Strength, speed, number, and regeneration speed increase with her desire 192.
  • Repeated use: Tentacles have no cooldown and permit unlimited contact-based pleasure applications; surviving targets’ memories are altered afterward 192.
  • Mobility: Can support, carry, and propel her otherwise immobilized body 224 317.
  • Regenerative hardening: Severed tentacles regrow tougher and stronger; one later withstands a pistol shot without complete penetration 318 323.
  • Sensory cost: She loses all sensation below her neck while the ability is active 192 224.
  • Injury cost: Severing a tentacle causes extreme pain despite her bodily numbness 262 318.
  • Targeting exception: Within Hitomi Sakuramiya’s Barrier, ranged abilities cannot lock onto Hitomi Sakuramiya, but tentacle contact remains usable 258.

Tentacle Purgatory

A large-scale mode unlocked without Little Finger recognizing the new ability 331.

  • Requires thirty minutes of channeling for its full bonuses, though attacks remain possible during that period 366.
  • Grants unlimited tentacles and 100% resistance penetration upon completion; its activation interface also specifies indestructibility 331 366.
  • Generates tentacles anywhere within sight, with shared senses allowing further growth into enclosed spaces 331.
  • Applies Superconductor through tentacles with no expiration 331.
  • Retains the loss of sensation below her neck and accompanies severe bodily deterioration during the Tokyo incident 331 373 374.

Illustration and Digital Work

An Le draws doujinshi and creates artwork for a website supporting Yan Huan’s student-council campaign 258 298 324.

  • Secretly builds the campaign website, which Yan Huan credits with helping him 324.
  • Has an earlier online connection with the illustrator known as Sweet Parfait 89.
  • Considers professional doujinshi work but remains uncertain about her career and her parents’ expectations 762.

Relationships

  • Yan Huan — Childhood friend and later romantic partner, usually addressed as “Xiao Huan.” His kindness becomes her strongest childhood attachment; their adult relationship develops through reunion, jealousy, supernatural conflict, and a mutual confession 24 51 374.
  • Little Finger — Modifier, companion, and manipulator. An Le depends on its advice but eventually uncovers its lies and learns how rejecting its power can hurt it. Their relationship continues after she acknowledges both its harm and its support 164 213 262 337 762.
  • Spencer — Classmate and initially her only friend. Spencer defends her from bullying, but their shared feelings for Yan Huan cause a rupture. They later reconcile, with An Le allowing her continued closeness to him and offering romantic advice 51 70 192 445.
  • Hitomi Sakuramiya — Admired rival, opponent, and eventual collaborator. An Le envies her competence and position beside Yan Huan; Hitomi Sakuramiya seeks to understand her attacks and later prevents her grief from triggering another disaster 258 324 509 584 639.
  • Ye Shiyu — Romantic rival and target during An Le’s campaign against the Hosts. Their conditional ceasefire includes An Le sharing Yan Huan’s childhood history, provided Ye Shiyu does not hypnotize him 218 220 504 506.
  • Bai Yi — Rival and opposing Host. Their clashes expose An Le to curse-related backlash, and Bai Yi remains visibly frightened of her afterward 232 276 436.
  • Tong Yingying — Stops An Le’s dangerous escalation by severing her tentacles, then receives An Le’s plea to rescue Yan Huan. An Le later offers to teach Hitomi Sakuramiya about intimacy 318 323 475.
  • Piao Shuwen — Classmate who bullies her and destroys her letter to Yan Huan. After An Le’s powers develop, Piao Shuwen instead seeks her company and approval 29 252.
  • An Bang and An Le’s mother — Loving parents whose emphasis on yielding shapes her early behavior. Their later focus on another child contributes to her isolation; she also conceals her doujinshi ambitions from them 51 262 445 762.
