Meanwhile, on the other side of the Ice Wall...
Captain Qi looked ahead with a deeply troubled expression.
Their squad's mission had been simple: enter the city to investigate its current condition and rescue some trapped civilians along the way. Since most of the roads aboveground were impassable, they had chosen to travel through the tunnel. They had never expected to encounter something like this.
"Where did all this ice come from?"
The disaster had struck far too suddenly. Captain Qi did not know exactly what had happened, but he instinctively felt that this was no ordinary natural disaster.
"The helicopters sent into the city earlier seem to have all lost contact, and the troops stationed at the disaster center haven't contacted the Outside World either. Something unimaginable must have happened..."
Ordinary disasters had Emergency Plans. They should not have caught an entire city so completely off guard.
At first, Captain Qi had thought it was an earthquake. But since the disaster began, the earthquake bureau had not issued a single warning. The entire city was clearly shaking, yet it was not an earthquake. What else could be causing it? He could not figure it out.
And now they had been stopped by this bizarre Ice Wall. Every part of this disaster reeked of strangeness, as though some supernatural force was at work.
"Captain, no good. We can't get through. The ice is spreading too fast. We just break some apart, and it grows back again." A soldier ran over, panting as he reported.
"Keep at it for now. Let me think of another way..."
"Understood."
They had set out in too much of a hurry and had not brought many tools. No one had anticipated a situation like this.
Captain Qi looked around. There was nothing in the tunnel
