Mo Ling had never expected that after only half a year, he would already be standing at the edge of the Abyss.
As he entered this familiar yet unfamiliar city, its former prosperity kept surfacing before his eyes, only for those scenes to be fractured into strange phantoms by crisscrossing cracks.
"If I remembered correctly, this used to be Flower Field Plaza. I even used to run here."
"That building in the distance should be Bai Ming Shopping Mall. It actually didn't collapse? Though it seems to have been converted to some other purpose now."
"The roads have been repaved too. The rubble and debris must have been cleared away long ago. This should have been Zhong Yang Road, right? Has it been changed to run east-west now? This layout does seem a little better than before. It looks much wider too..."
The bustling scenes of the past overlapped with the empty city before him. Mo Ling knew that this city built above the Abyss would soon regain its former liveliness, but seeing how desolate it was now still left him with a faint sense of loneliness.
That disaster had changed many things. Roughly one-third of the city's people had been buried beneath the ruins, while half of those who remained had suffered severe injuries and lost their normal lives.
For five straight months after the disaster, rescue teams had wandered through the ruins.
Most people had not been confirmed dead. They were merely "missing," and even now, their families and friends still hoped that they were alive.
The ruins throughout the city had now been cleared away. Sunlight shone upon the newly paved roads, spotless and clean, with no trace of the disaster remaining. Yet the marks it had left in people's hearts could never be paved over again.
