Baa! Baa!

A sheep's thoughts were simple. Back when it was still a lamb, it liked following its herd to chop down trees.

After the big sheep felled the large trees, it would follow behind and start cutting off the smaller branches.

The big sheep ate the hearts of the large Tree Trunks, while it gnawed on the small branches. They were not as tasty as the large tree hearts, but they were enough to fill its stomach.

But one day, its thoughts seemed to become more complicated.

"I need to find something."

"No, kill all the other sheep first."

"No, find that thing first."

"Kill first."

"Find first."

"Kill!"

"Find!"

The two voices began arguing inside the lamb's head. It listened helplessly, then offered them a suggestion. "Do whatever is closer first."

That was how it had always chopped trees before: chop the nearby ones first, then the distant ones.

After hearing its suggestion, the two voices stopped arguing.

Kill first!

Very quickly, it slaughtered the entire flock.

"Not enough. Keep killing!"

"Find first!"

"Kill first!"

They began arguing again, so the lamb offered another suggestion. "Can't I search while killing?"

Searching for trees and chopping trees could be done at the same time.

The two voices agreed again, and so the lamb began its journey of searching.

It did not know what it was looking for, or why it had to kill. It only knew that it no longer seemed to want to eat trees. The two voices had completely taken over its heart, leading it down a path no sheep had ever walked.

It did not resist. In fact, it found it interesting.

No longer were there only identical trees. The road ahead was full of unknowns.
