After eating, Yubi enjoyed a good night's sleep.
The next day, he headed to the village offices to record the ninjutsu he had developed on a scroll.
Afterward, he went to the village hospital.
Since this was the Second Shinobi World War, fairly early in the timeline, public infrastructure throughout the Shinobi World, including Konoha... was still rather rudimentary in all Five Great Shinobi Villages, nowhere near as developed as it would be in Naruto's time.
Sunagakure's hospital was not large at this point, either, and its interior and furnishings were nothing special.
He was a medical ninja and had interned at the hospital before, so he could come and go freely.
Besides treating ninja, the village hospital's main function was actually to look after the health of Sunagakure's residents... but under the current exceptional circumstances, almost all its patients were Sunagakure ninja who had withdrawn from the battlefield. There were hardly any ordinary villagers.
All the doctors and medical ninja were run off their feet... and there were no spare beds.
Many Sunagakure ninja simply lay on straw mats, waiting for treatment.
Moreover, a glance at those who had returned from the front... showed that every one of them was seriously wounded.
There were no minor injuries.
Yubi soon threw himself into treating them.
Although treating patients at the hospital offered relatively limited experience points without the battlefield buff... even the smallest gains counted. He could not waste them.
Along the way, he could also practice his medical ninjutsu, which would help with his chakra training.
Even if the hospital's workload was not as heavy as the battlefield's, it was still substantial... after a busy day, it was already late at night when he got home.
He had not even had time to eat.
"The village is strapped for funds right now... there's no way to invest in public infrastructure. The war has consumed almost all its resource reserves." Lying in bed, listening to his stomach growl, Yubi had his mind on something else entirely.
His presence had been a great help to the hospital that day, relieving much of the pressure.
It had also earned him the deep gratitude of many colleagues.
Even setting aside his abilities as a medical ninja, Yubi had inherited Kuroo Hazama's skills in conventional surgery... his medical knowledge and insights alone were beyond what the people of this world could match. The medical skills of the people currently working at Sunagakure's hospital were still relatively backward.
"I've had this idea for a long time... but the timing wasn't right before. Now, I can start the second step..."
Yubi spoke softly.
On the third day, Yubi went to see Granny Chiyo.
He told her his idea.
"Teaching?"
"Yes... I want to train some outstanding doctors for the village. I don't mean medical ninja, just people who can provide ordinary medical treatment and nursing care. Also, there are certain specialized surgical instruments... that we're lacking. I'd like the village to have a batch made specifically for us. It won't cost much... but it can greatly improve Sunagakure's medical capabilities and increase our ninja's survival rate. It would be a great help in this Shinobi World War."
Yubi spoke with a smile.
"..."
Chiyo fell silent.
Yubi was a genius. The village had already confirmed that, and there was no disputing it.
He had also demonstrated considerable medical ability on the battlefield.
But those were separate matters... no matter how outstanding Yubi was, he might not surpass the hospital's veterans by all that much.
An eight-year-old child... suddenly claiming he could improve the hospital's programs. This...
Yubi had come to Chiyo precisely because Granny Chiyo was the head of the village's Medical Division.
As long as she agreed, there would be no problem.
"We can give it a try... Granny Chiyo, you can assess the results. I can start by teaching one or two people. If you're not satisfied, just pretend I never said anything." Yubi knew that, in Granny Chiyo's eyes, there was something rather childish about what he was doing.
But given his relationship with Sasori... and the fact that success would certainly benefit the village...
There was nothing to lose by trying.
"All right."
Chiyo slowly loosened her grip on her teacup.
In the end, she agreed with a smile.
A genius... deserved a few small privileges.
In her view, Yubi was still immature at his age, and the excessive praise he had received after returning to the village... might have gone to the little brat's head, leaving him with a poor grasp of his own limits.
This could help Yubi recognize his shortcomings. Even a genius... could not do everything.
That would be a good thing, too.
Reining in his pride a little would also help his future growth.
With Chiyo's approval, Yubi immediately got started and threw himself into the work.
Once he entered the hospital, his job was no longer simply to treat patients... he also explained his surgical procedures and reasoning step by step to those accompanying him.
At first, the hospital's veterans felt quite uncomfortable trailing behind a little brat and listening to his lessons, but these were Chiyo's orders, so they had no choice. As time passed, however, some gradually realized that Yubi's teaching was no nonsense... it was backed by clear thinking and a store of knowledge. Such ability required extensive experience treating patients to accumulate; it could not be grasped through study alone.
When the same conditions were treated using Yubi's methods, treatment really was more efficient, and the patients recovered better.
There was no need for any assessment, because the hospital staff's abilities were visibly improving...
Yubi immersed himself in the hospital during the day. When he returned home at night, he still had to write out large amounts of medical data by hand and give it to the hospital staff to study.
This was only a small fraction of Yubi's knowledge. The medical material he taught was a compilation focused on the particular circumstances of the Sunagakure ninja who needed treatment and the principal injuries seen during wartime, rather than everything he knew.
Yet even this was an enormous help to Sunagakure's Medical Division.
Yubi ended up staying at the hospital for three months.
By the end, even Granny Chiyo could not bear to let him leave... she even came to the hospital herself to learn some of Yubi's medical concepts alongside the others.
A village was neither particularly large nor particularly small.
The Sunagakure ninja who withdrew from the battlefield received excellent treatment, and the village's capacity and manpower for supporting the battlefield afterward received the best possible care... this also greatly reduced further losses to Sunagakure's fighting strength.
And Sunagakure was neither particularly large nor particularly small... behind every ninja cured at the hospital was a household.
So... before long, the entire village knew about Yubi.
This genius "young miracle doctor" had not only addressed the village's critical problem of maintaining reserves of fighting strength, but had also saved many families.
And this... was precisely the "prestige" Yubi needed.
Put plainly, he was winning people over.
He did not care how dazzling his talent was... or how incredible his accomplishments appeared to outsiders.
He wanted the village leadership to recognize his importance.
The more important, the better... he wanted Sunagakure to understand that it could not do without him.
Of course, everything Yubi did served only one purpose.
To... take that position!
As someone who had transmigrated, Yubi understood one thing very well... while the village's ninja risked their lives and shed their blood on the front lines, the civilians living comfortable lives in the rear had not personally witnessed those achievements and that glory, much less gained any direct understanding of them.
To them, the events and changes taking place around them mattered more instead.
What Yubi wanted was his own reputation and image...
For those who wanted to rise through military achievements alone, this was actually very unfair.
But there was no helping it... that was reality.
