Even running a stall, I shouldn't make myself suffer?
Shen Chuan's scrolling hand paused, and he watched closely. Wasn't this the video that food blogger had filmed yesterday?
"Pretty professional. The video looks great, and it shows all my stall's special features clearly. Most importantly, it makes me look so handsome. Nice, very nice."
He casually liked the video, then checked the comments.
"This boss is trying a little too hard to get attention. He's making scallion pancakes, but he has to toss them around like flying pancakes. And wearing a suit to run a stall in the middle of summer? Isn't he hot?"
"Am I the only one who thinks the boss sounds a bit pretentious?"
"Looks really appetizing. The boss takes his cooking seriously, and everything's so clean. I kind of want to try it."
"That line is way too long!"
"..."
Seeing how popular the video was, with tens of thousands of likes already, Shen Chuan grew thoughtful. With his stall becoming better known, he should get more customers, right?
No, I need to think hard about how to show off.
These are all Show-off Points ripe for the harvesting!
As he pondered, Shen Chuan thought of one of the comments just now. Wasn't he hot?
Of course he was. The fan couldn't relieve the heat, and every day when he got home, his shirt was wet enough to wring water out of.
Besides, once everyone had seen the suit enough, it lost its novelty. Showing off while the customers ate could earn him plenty of Show-off Points, but it was too slow.
Still thinking, Shen Chuan climbed out of bed and opened the window to see what the weather was like today.
The moment he opened it, the blazing sun beat down on him with scorching heat, as though it were burning his skin. Shen Chuan hurriedly shut the window again.
This temperature could practically roast someone alive. He could imagine how hot he would be going out in a suit that afternoon, covered in sticky sweat without even being able to complain about the heat. Just thinking about it made Shen Chuan bare his teeth.
He suddenly slapped his thigh and said in delight, "I know how to show off now! I'll install air conditioning in my little stall. Everyone else will be running their stalls under the sun, while I'll be cooking inside my cool, air-conditioned tricycle cabin. I can't even imagine the looks on their faces when they see it. Hahahahaha!"
Shen Chuan immediately put his plan into action. He took out all the money he had earned over the past few days of running his stall, set aside enough for ingredients, then did the math. He had about enough to buy an air conditioner. No longer bothered by the heat outside, he rode his tricycle out to find professionals to help modify it.
Fortunately, the tricycle he had bought was relatively large, so adding air conditioning shouldn't be much of a problem.
He just needed someone to weld a steel frame onto the chassis and enclose it, using tempered glass around the sides. The front, where he served customers, would have an upward-opening window that wouldn't take up space or block the customers' view.
Then he would get a dedicated vehicle parking air conditioner and mount it on the roof.
The outdoor unit would be welded to the rear to dissipate heat. The tricycle's power supply was only enough for driving, not running an air conditioner, but that was simple too. He would add a high-capacity lithium battery specifically for the air conditioner and lights. If he needed a fridge later, he could simply add a small one without running short of power.
The modifications amounted to quite a major project. Shen Chuan rode his tricycle all over the place, getting the frame welded at one shop, the glass fitted at another, and finally the air conditioner installed.
Only when the scallion seller called to ask when he would pick up his scallions did Shen Chuan remember he still hadn't collected them from the man's house.
Hearing that he couldn't get away right now, the man immediately assured him he could deliver the scallions.
Of course he had to keep such a good paying customer happy. What was one delivery?
After all that running around, the modifications weren't finished until after four in the afternoon.
On his ride home, Shen Chuan switched on the air conditioner. Cool air flowed down from the roof onto his back, and the refreshing sensation made him let out a satisfied sigh.
Now this is living. What kind of life was I leading before? I really was making myself suffer!
The system was right after all. A God of Cooking needs the swagger of a God of Cooking!
Of course a God of Cooking's stall should be fully equipped. That's how you make better food!
By the time he got home, it was already a little late. Shen Chuan packed everything into the tricycle and rode it to the residential complex's entrance.
Jiang Wenyan was already getting anxious as he waited at the main gate.
Boss Shen hadn't said yesterday whether he would be opening his stall today, so Jiang Wenyan had come to wait at the usual time.
First, if Boss Shen didn't open, neither he nor his roommates nor a whole group of classmates would have anything to eat. He had to get that straight.
Second, this side job earned him four hundred for the round trip, far more than he made running his own stall. How could he not take it seriously?
As he anxiously looked around, an enclosed tricycle suddenly rolled slowly out of the complex, blocking his view.
Seeing that it wasn't Boss Shen's vehicle, Jiang Wenyan looked away in disappointment, then craned his neck to peer farther inside, muttering, "Boss Shen, you have to open your stall. I still want scallion pancakes."
While he was fretting, Jiang Wenyan suddenly noticed a familiar figure climb out of the enclosed tricycle. Who else could it be but Boss Shen?
Jiang Wenyan's eyes immediately lit up, as though he had spotted his provider, and he ran over excitedly.
"Boss Shen, you're finally here! I thought you were taking the day off."
Standing in front of the tricycle, Shen Chuan deliberately opened the side door. A rush of cool air drew Jiang Wenyan's attention before he said, "Something held me up. Let's exchange contact details later. I'll let you know when I don't need your services."
Shen Chuan was quite satisfied with Jiang Wenyan, who helped him set up and pack up his stall every day. Without someone to lend a hand, he would have to find someone else each day, which would be a hassle too.
Jiang Wenyan was sweating profusely in the sun. When that cool breeze reached him, the refreshing sensation instantly felt like rain after a long drought. He glanced at the completely transformed tricycle and exclaimed in surprise.
"Boss Shen, you... you didn't install air conditioning in your tricycle, did you? It's so cool!"
Shen Chuan nodded slightly. Though inwardly very pleased, he still wore a nonchalant expression.
"Yeah. It's too hot. Even running a stall, I shouldn't make myself suffer. I had some time today, so I went and had air conditioning installed."
[Ding! Show-off Points +30!]
Even running a stall, he shouldn't make himself suffer?
So he installed air conditioning in his tricycle?
Jiang Wenyan almost felt as though he could no longer understand human speech.
When had Boss Shen ever made himself suffer while running his stall?
He had Jiang Wenyan to ride the tricycle for him when going out. At the stall, Jiang Wenyan helped arrange everything and serve customers. When he got tired, Jiang Wenyan even fanned him and brought ice to put in front of the fan to cool him down.
All because he was afraid Boss Shen would find it too tiring and hot and stop running his stall.
Was... was that hard work?
Then Jiang Wenyan realized that, with Boss Shen's cooking skills, even five-star hotels would probably fight to hire him. Running a roadside stall did seem a little beneath him.
"Of course, of course. Boss Shen, take your seat. Let's get going!"
Seeing Jiang Wenyan recover after just a moment of bewilderment, Shen Chuan frowned in confusion. Wasn't what I just said showing off?
Why only thirty Show-off Points? That can't be right!
