Today's Stock Sold Out
Shen Chuan's hands moved swiftly, frying chive pockets one after another. Before long, the wrappers and filling he had prepared were completely gone. Today's entire stock had sold out.
Seeing the college students taking bags and packing their own food, the others followed suit, grabbing bags and filling them themselves. They had somehow turned a roadside stall into a buffet.
When the old man's turn came, he saw that everyone around him was eating without even lifting their heads. No one responded to anything he said, all of them thoroughly enjoying their food. He silently helped himself too, paying and taking a chive pocket.
The next second, the old man took a bite, and his eyes instantly lit up. He nodded repeatedly. "That was ten yuan well spent! Ten times better than the ones downstairs from my place!"
Once everyone had received their chive pockets and tasted them, their initial skepticism vanished, replaced by approval.
"My God, I've lived over forty years, and this is the first time I've ever had a chive pocket this good."
"Blame my lack of experience. I thought chive pockets were all more or less the same, and I'd spend ten yuan for a bit of fun. I never expected those ten yuan to buy me such a heavenly delicacy."
"The owner really is losing out. Something this good, and he's selling it for ten yuan at a street stall. In a fancy hotel, wouldn't this go for 88?"
It was Shen Chuan's first day running a stall, and he had not prepared many ingredients. The college students stayed by the stall eating, each of them acting as though they had never had a full meal, finishing one after another.
A few more customers came along afterward, and unsurprisingly, all the chive pockets sold out.
Only when the chive pockets were gone did the college students belatedly realize they were full. Rubbing their bellies and feeling thirsty, they shared another large cup of lemonade from Jiang Wenyan. After eating and drinking their fill, they felt refreshed and grinned foolishly, like a bunch of silly roe deer out in the fields.
"Boss, why are your chive pockets so much better? The chives are so fresh, and even the eggs taste amazing. How do you do it?"
Jiang Wenyan was simply too curious and leaned over to ask. He wanted to pick up a few tips. Perhaps there would be some good ideas he could use to improve his own stall.
Shen Chuan said calmly, "Because I'm the God of Cooking. If my food weren't good, I wouldn't be called the God of Cooking."
The system's recipes had extremely high standards for ingredients in the first place. Inferior ingredients could never produce the authentic flavor. Only good, fresh ingredients were worthy of his skills as the God of Cooking.
From receiving the system's recipe to deciding to set up a stall and buying the ingredients, he really had put in plenty of work.
Ten yuan for one of these chive pockets truly was not expensive.
[Ding, Show-off Points +20!]
"Now that's dedication!"
Jiang Wenyan had expected an answer about some secret recipe or the like. He had never expected such a show-off remark.
Not only could he never learn those cooking skills, he could not even manage that constant show-off style. He decisively abandoned his attempt to pick up the trade on the sly.
His roommates, however, felt they still had not had enough. They were full today, but were already thinking about tomorrow's portions and asked Shen Chuan.
"Boss, will you be setting up your stall tomorrow too?"
Shen Chuan said, "Depends on my mood."
[Ding! Show-off Points +10!]
He did not know whether the Show-off Points he had earned today were enough to exchange for a new recipe. He would check once he got home.
Those words made their hearts sink. They could no longer spare a thought to complain about the owner showing off anywhere and everywhere, and their voices immediately turned worried.
"Boss, you absolutely have to come tomorrow. We want to have another feast tomorrow..."
Suddenly remembering something, they all picked up their phones in unison and checked their living funds and today's spending records in the app. Once they saw the figures clearly, every one of them became as forlorn as a fallen leaf in the autumn wind.
Great. Now they really would be eating dirt at the end of the month.
Shen Chuan calmly turned off the heat and used the remaining water to wash the grease off his hands. His gaze swept over the jars and bottles on the worktable and the stall waiting to be packed away.
He took out a storage bin, pointed at the things on the table, and called to the college student standing closest to him, "Please put these seasonings into the storage bin for me."
"Oh, sure." Knowing the circumstances of Shen Chuan's stall, Jiang Wenyan instinctively got moving. He saw nothing wrong with being given orders and briskly helped pack things away.
Seeing how quick and efficient he was, Shen Chuan said thoughtfully, "Help me pack up the stall, then give me a ride home, and I'll pay you two hundred yuan."
"What? You want me to take you home?"
Jiang Wenyan's eyes immediately lit up. Earlier, when Shen Chuan came to the food street, he had hired a delivery rider to bring him. It was precisely because that rider had helped set up the stall that Jiang Wenyan had remained curious.
He had seen the owner hire someone to help earlier, paying two hundred yuan for a single trip. He had never imagined that such heaven-sent riches would fall to him.
Before he could even speak, his roommates got excited first. The way they looked at Shen Chuan was no different from looking at the God of Wealth.
How could someone be so nice? His chive pockets were delicious, and after eating them left them without money to live on, they could even earn extra cash from him.
"Really? Boss, all we have to do is help you pack up and take you home, and you'll give us two hundred yuan? There's really a deal that good?"
Shen Chuan nodded. "Of course. As the God of Cooking, I'm only responsible for preparing ingredients and cooking. I don't do chores."
[Ding, Show-off Points +50!]
"Yes, exactly! Just leave these chores to us. Chores are what we're best at. After all, we're useless at everything but eating, where we take first place. We're best at things that don't require any technical skill. Boss, let me do it. I'm really quick."
Zhang Jiale was the fastest, rushing over to pack up the stall. Suddenly, he thought it was wonderful that the owner loved showing off. It even led to opportunities like this! But the chubby guy beside him immediately blocked his way.
"No, you can't handle this. Let me do it. I'm strong!"
The last roommate also volunteered. "Boss, look at me. I'm the most meticulous. I even remember where every needle in our dorm is. Let me do it."
"Let me..."
To avoid eating dirt at the end of the month, the college students were ready to turn into little princes of cleaning, each hoping the owner would pick him.
Jiang Wenyan had only spaced out for a moment, but he had already been squeezed aside. Coming back to his senses, he hurriedly rushed forward.
"Boss, I run a stall myself. Setting up stalls is what I do best. You can't go wrong picking me. We'll be neighbors from now on, so you can ask me to do anything, big or small. Order me around all you like."
His roommates reminded him, "You still have your own stall to run. Are you abandoning it?"
Jiang Wenyan declared righteously, "A little time won't make any difference to my stall. I can take the boss home first, then come back and run it."
He had not been running his stall for long and barely earned any money in a day. Besides, not many people came for drinks at this hour. Earning two hundred yuan just for helping pack up a stall and taking someone home was practically a windfall.
"Holy shit, we can hear your abacus clacking from here!"
Shen Chuan had intended to have Jiang Wenyan take him home anyway. After all, Jiang Wenyan deserved much of the credit for today's excellent business.
Jiang Wenyan had bought one first and drawn all his roommates over. Once there were more people, they attracted passersby too, allowing him to sell out all his ingredients in such a short time.
Letting Jiang Wenyan earn some extra cash and recover a little was not a bad idea.
In any case, he could not be the one to do the packing.
After all their jostling, the job ultimately went firmly to Jiang Wenyan. The others looked deeply regretful and could only tag along wistfully to lend a hand.
