Background / History
Mo Chen’s Former Life
Mo Chen came from the Xuanyuan Kingdom on the Mingze Continent. Separated from his parents shortly after birth, he pursued cultivation because an old man told him that reaching the highest realm and ascending would allow him to discover their fate. His search consumed hundreds of years, leaving little room for family affection or romance 3 6 25 28.
When he finally prepared to ascend, the old man he trusted dealt him a fatal blow. He fell into the blazing flames of the abyss, hearing the man’s crazed laughter without learning the reason for the betrayal. His next conscious experience was awakening in Song Qi’s injured body 2 3 25.
The Original Song Qi
The original Song Qi grew up close to the original Shen Moxi. Their parents had promised a marriage after Song Yongjun and Huang Yushan helped save Ye Yunjuan during a dangerous pregnancy. As a small child, Song Qi eagerly accepted the idea that Moxi would become his wife and regularly visited her in the neighboring village 1 2.
They later shared a classroom and desk. Before joining the military, Song Qi considered confessing his feelings, but postponed it because he feared something might happen to him during his service. Moxi regarded him as an older brother and remained unaware of his affection 2.
A severe head injury left him unconscious, with doctors warning that he might never wake. His family exhausted its savings and military subsidy on treatment, then brought Shen Moxi into the household for a luck-changing marriage 3 7.
Awakening in Hua Country
Mo Chen awakened weak and unfamiliar with both his surroundings and his new face. Shen Moxi recognized that his confusion went beyond ordinary memory loss and revealed that she, too, was a transmigrator. Unlike her, he had inherited none of his host’s memories, which he attributed to the head injury 2 3.
He adopted the name Song Qi and agreed to present himself as having amnesia. Moxi became his guide to the era, explaining its technology, customs, and marriage laws. His early weakness also came from his soul’s incomplete integration with the body; after eating medicinal herbs from his space, he recovered enough to walk 3 4 5 6 7.
From Market Stall to Shop
Song Qi supplied a luminous pearl for auction through Moxi’s trading system, giving them the resources to buy necessities and begin a business. He then accompanied her to town, collected payments at their clothing stall, and stored their stock and equipment out of sight. Their early sales brought the money bag’s total to 896 yuan 5 10 12.
As their plans expanded, he provided manuals, medicinal plants, and jewelry for further auctions. He paid the remaining rental balance to Mr. Zhang and helped prepare the shop they named Reluctant to Part with Clothes 16 18 21 22.
His work grew beyond carrying goods: he arranged displays, helped make promotional materials, distributed flyers, obtained change before opening, and installed the shop’s speaker and sign lighting. Though unfamiliar with business, he steadily became an active co-owner rather than merely its source of capital 32 33 36 41 47 50.
A New Family and Romance
Song Qi gradually accepted the host body’s parents as his own and reassured Moxi that they could care for both families together. He described his new life as more peaceful and relaxing than anything he had experienced before, though he still regretted never finding his original parents 8 20 25.
His alliance with Moxi developed into mutual affection. Her spontaneous kiss initially left him flustered, but he soon became more openly romantic himself. Their families set a wedding for mid-July; by Chapter 50, the ceremony remained about a month away, and their wedding photographs were still being planned 21 26 30 39 50.
Appearance
- Handsome face and high nose bridge: Moxi admires his features before he awakens 2.
- Broad shoulders, narrow waist, and long legs: Especially noticeable when he models a suit for the shop opening 41.
- Polished styling: Moxi gives him a sleek hairstyle that she compares to a “domineering CEO” look 41.
- Visible embarrassment: His ears turn red when Moxi kisses or praises him 21 41.
Personality
Song Qi is courteous and restrained, greeting Moxi with a formal salute and refusing to begin a family meal before his parents arrive. His old-fashioned upbringing initially makes modern clothing seem revealing and casual promotional greetings difficult to say 3 8 10 36.
He is generous with possessions but uncomfortable feeling dependent. Although his treasures fund their new life, he worries that he contributes little beside money and resolves to learn faster. He openly acknowledges Moxi’s better understanding of business and accepts her guidance 5 12 16.
With Moxi, he becomes teasing, affectionate, and attentive. He comforts her uncertainty about belonging to her new family, takes on household work while she rests, and begins imagining children of their own. His affection for the new household contrasts with the isolation of his cultivation life 18 20 28 36 37.
