Background / History

Saving Ye Yunjuan

While traveling toward the county town with Song Yongjun and their two-year-old son, Song Qi, Huang Yushan found the pregnant Ye Yunjuan collapsed beside the road. Recognizing the urgency, she instructed her husband to carry Ye Yunjuan to the shared ox cart so they could take her to the hospital. Huang Yushan then stayed beside Ye Yunjuan to care for her after emergency treatment 1.

The rescue brought the two families together. In gratitude, Shen Moxi’s father promised that, if the baby was a girl, their families would become in-laws. Ye Yunjuan subsequently gave birth to Shen Moxi, establishing the childhood marriage agreement between her and Song Qi 1 2.

Song Qi’s Awakening and Wedding Arrangements

After Song Qi regained consciousness, Huang Yushan tearfully thanked Shen Moxi, but was distressed to learn that he apparently could not remember his parents. Huang Yushan is affectionate and openly emotional about her family’s safety. She panics when she thinks Shen Moxi has disappeared, cries over Song Qi’s recovery and apparent memory loss, and worries when the couple return late without telling her where they have gone. She is frugal without withholding support. She insists that the couple accept travel money, yet cautions Shen Moxi against spending their earnings too freely on household groceries.
