Background / History

Alleria is Lireesa Windrunner's eldest daughter and the elder sister of Sylvanas, Vereesa, and Lirath. Her father, a former Ranger-General, died in the same ambush near Zul'Aman that killed Sigma Theron. After Lireesa took in the orphaned Theron brothers, her official duties left much of their daily care to Alleria 2 7.

Twenty years before the early story, Alleria rejected the expectation that she would inherit the Ranger-General's office. She wanted to travel throughout Azeroth rather than remain bound by family tradition. Lireesa consequently began preparing Sylvanas for the succession. Alleria then let her training lapse for a time while studying foreign customs in the family library 14.

Alleria initially treated the mentally clouded Charlemagne with contempt. After his recovery ten years before the story, his extraordinary progress challenged her standing as the strongest ranger of their age group. She resumed intensive training and began requesting extra instruction from Lireesa. Their rivalry developed into mutual admiration and, eventually, romance 2 14.

Personality

Alleria is independent, restless, and difficult to dissuade once she has made a decision. Her refusal to inherit the Ranger-General's position comes with some guilt, but her desire to see Azeroth outweighs her willingness to follow tradition. Even Kael'thas's repeated attempts to persuade her to return with his delegation fail to change her travel plans 14 34.

Her competitiveness turns Charlemagne's rapid improvement into a powerful incentive to train. Although they become lovers, she remains unwilling to fall far behind him in strength. This motivates her determination to reach Advanced rank during her journey 2 34.

With her siblings, Alleria is affectionate and protective. With Charlemagne, she combines teasing and romantic embarrassment with steady emotional support. She recognizes his anxiety without fully understanding its cause and repeatedly offers to share his burdens 3 6 7 8.

Her curiosity does not initially free her from Quel'Thalas's complacency. She questions the need for military reform because the kingdom's existing defenses have held for thousands of years, though she still agrees to help Charlemagne present his proposal 3 7.

Separation and the Stormwind Mission

Alleria initially promises to accompany Charlemagne when he leaves Quel'Thalas. The Amani mobilization changes their plans: Charlemagne volunteers for the Theron family, while Lireesa assigns Alleria to escort Kael'thas to Stormwind for the celebrations surrounding Prince Varian's birth. Keeping Alleria away from the campaign also allows Sylvanas to earn prestige without sharing it with her elder sister 6.

Before their separation, Charlemagne asks Alleria to suggest establishing organized high elf melee forces. She agrees to raise the matter if she can speak to the prince. After farewells to her family, she leaves on Dudu for Silvermoon, with onward teleportation planned through Dalaran to Stormwind 7 8.

Independent Journey

After completing the diplomatic visit, Alleria refuses to return with Kael'thas. She has presented Charlemagne's military proposal, but the prince's distracted response convinces her that he has taken little interest in it 34.
