I was the God of Fire of a certain world.
The God of Fire might have given people the impression of being impulsive and quarrelsome, but I actually went for the cool, aloof type.
I didn't set everything I touched on fire.
Also, although I seemed very much like a male god, I was a goddess. Keep that in mind.
The impulsive, quarrelsome one was the God of Water.
How should I describe her? She was always like a bear just before hibernation. That about summed it up.
The only way to keep her quiet was to stuff sweets into her mouth.
Well, she wasn't important.
What mattered was the world I was responsible for.
This world was one of those the gods paid particular attention to, and many gods had sent aspects of themselves to manage it.
I was one of the God of Fire's aspects, too.
Still, although we called it management, we couldn't interfere directly with the world, so we were basically only responsible for watching over it.
No, perhaps looking after it was a better way to put it.
Honestly, I had barely encountered any trouble.
At most, when an individual who would set the gears of civilization turning faster was born-something that statistically happened once every thousand or two thousand years-we needed to guide him so he wouldn't take things too far.
After all, rapid advances in civilization would cause large-scale wars.
Large-scale wars could cause the world to collapse.
From a god's standpoint, even if we permitted a great war to break out, we couldn't let life go extinct.
If we thought, "As long as the planet is still there, it's fine," we wouldn't have nurtured life in the first place.
Gods considered life precious.
But it was so boring.
The most prosperous species was still full of vitality, and its civilization was developing steadily.
The dragons serving as the world's security personnel were well behaved, too... Since they were dragons, should I have called them security "dragon-nel"?
My colleague, the God of Magic, was handling the most difficult job, managing magic power, very thoroughly. It was so stable that his work could be called flawless.
Thinking about how the boredom would continue made me depressed.
Just as I was thinking that, the God of Magic made a mistake.
How unusual.
As a result, magic power flowed into this world outside the plan.
Magic power was a "power" that existed in every world.
I had heard that it was the "power" left over when the God of Creation created the worlds.
That was why it had to be handled carefully, and its management was entrusted to the meticulous God of Magic.
To think that the God of Magic would fail.
No, what mattered was that we had to retrieve the magic power that had flowed into the world.
Ah, the dragons were affected by the magic power and started rampaging.
Seven great nations fell, but I didn't think our response had been too slow.
There was simply too much magic power flowing into the world.
The magic power altered the most prosperous species, producing many subspecies.
Since they were new species, they would keep making trouble until they understood order.
What a pain.
The world seemed to have entered an age of chaos.
Although I didn't want to be bored, being so busy that I couldn't rest was a problem, too.
Reflecting on his mistake, the God of Magic took on the job of managing the subspecies.
That certainly helped a great deal, but would he be all right?
After a while, the world came to call the God of Magic the God of the Demon Race.
I was a little envious.
Well, that was because he was doing his job properly.
Although I went for the cool, aloof type, being steady and reliable had little to do with me. Not that I intended to change my personality.
The God of Water invited me to a banquet.
The food and drink served at the gods' banquets were all things found in this world.
That was the rule.
Since the God of Water was all smiles, that must have meant there were new sweets in the world.
I liked sweets, too.
So I attended the banquet.
How about joining us, God of Magic? There was no harm in relaxing once in a while, was there?
The world was finally about to emerge from its age of chaos.
I knew this was a critical time, but being too tense could lead to failure, too.
I didn't think I was wrong.
I had only invited a colleague to a banquet.
I hadn't meant to interfere with the God of Magic's management of magic power.
So where exactly had things gone wrong?
When the God of Magic briefly turned his attention away from the magic power, magic power once again flowed into the world outside the plan.
The world fell into an age of chaos once more.
