Ch. 23Final chapter of Volume Four: Winter preparations and research

Hiraku welcomed centaur settlers, hosted the martial arts tournament, and oversaw its delayed knight division, where Stifano won. After the guests departed, the village turned to winter preparations, including outside commissions and a request from Hou to brew alcohol.

  • Gruff's son paved roads and made stone slabs for the tournament, while the dragon family stayed in Big Tree Village and the twin angels settled into village life.
  • Fuka Polo led forty centaurs to Big Tree Village, where Hiraku and Gruwald welcomed them before they settled in Village Three.
  • Visitors arrived for the martial arts tournament, and impromptu sumo matches drew crowds before the tournament opened with dragon flights and exhibition contests.
  • Hiraku's martial arts tournament ran across two days, with Stifano defeating Ann to win the knight division after the exhibition matches delayed the main event.
  • Frau and Gruwald discussed the village's wonders, while Gulf and Daga reviewed their fights and Michael advised the civil servant girls on establishing spending and information-gathering facilities outside the village.
  • After the guests left, Hiraku began preparing for winter, and the village accepted orders for mahjong sets, wagon suspensions, statues, and alcohol requested by Hou.

Ch. 25Volume 5 Prologue: Magic power

The God of Fire recounted how a mistake by the God of Magic sent magic power into their world, causing dragons to rampage and the world to fall into an age of chaos. After the world began to recover, a banquet invitation led the God of Magic to look away from his work, and magic power flooded the world again.

  • The God of Fire watched over a world where the God of Magic carefully managed magic power.
  • The God of Magic accidentally let magic power flow into the world, causing dragons to rampage and seven great nations to fall.
  • The magic power produced many subspecies, and the God of Magic took responsibility for managing them as the world entered an age of chaos.
  • The God of Water invited the God of Fire and the God of Magic to a banquet as the world began to recover.
  • The God of Magic turned his attention from magic power at the banquet, and another uncontrolled flow plunged the world into chaos again.

Ch. 26Sun Castle

Hiraku and the villagers subdued Sun Castle, appointed Kuzutin its castle lord, and began helping its trapped Demon Race and Succubus Race residents. While touring the castle, Hiraku discovered a hidden passage leading to a dungeon, where signs of recent use left him with a new mystery.

  • Hiraku knocked part of Sun Castle’s base away with the Almighty Farming Tool, then organized suppression forces after Kuzutin surrendered and explained the castle’s history.
  • The suppression forces fought their way through Sun Castle while Hiraku waited in the village, and Hakuren and Rasuti helped him destroy the castle’s base and halt its approach.
  • Hiraku visited Sun Castle, where its crystal accepted Kuzutin as castle lord and Hiraku agreed to let a girl keep the baby monster she had raised.
  • Hiraku learned that an ancient contract had brought Sun Castle toward the village, then toured the castle and arranged food for its residents.
  • Hiraku found a hidden passage behind a vase, followed it through a study into a dungeon, and noticed that one cell had been cleaned and used recently.

Ch. 27Research

Hiraku incorporated Sun Castle as Village Four, helped its residents secure fuel and begin rebuilding, and explored its technology and crops. By early spring, the village had begun to connect with Big Tree Village, while experiments with dungeon potatoes and plans for a hot-air balloon continued.

  • Kuzutin pledged Sun Castle's allegiance to Big Tree Village, and Hiraku accepted him as Village Four's acting village chief while allowing residents to keep calling it Sun Castle.
  • Hiraku arranged for heat-retaining stones to be excavated and delivered, and Bell and Gulf began restoring Sun Castle's fuel supply.
  • Hiraku cleared fields and planned homes at Sun Castle, while Lu found its magical technology too advanced to reproduce and the villagers discovered it could produce canned food.
  • Zabuton and her children visited Sun Castle after waking for spring, and the Mountain Elves completed a successful small hot-air balloon prototype with help from Zabuton and Lu.
  • The Demon King explained that sunlight made dungeon potatoes grow rapidly without producing tubers, so Hiraku considered planting them in ruined fields once used for fairy wheat.
  • Daga, Guraru, and Gutt found rare minerals beneath Sun Castle, and Hiraku awarded medals and miniature trophies to residents for their contributions.

Ch. 28Opening a Shop

Ifrus anxiously prepared to welcome Marcus and Paula, a couple from Village One sent to open a curry shop in Shashaato, while the shop’s rapid expansion overwhelmed Marcus and Paula with its scale and responsibilities. Paula recruited girls from the back alleys, including Potty, and the chapter followed their training and preparations to work at the new shop.

  • Ifrus received repeated warnings from Lord Leg, General Glatts, Lord Randann, and the Demon King to treat the Goroun Company's incoming guests with care, then greeted Marcus and Paula and cleared a site for their business.
  • Paula recalled her and Marcus's move from the back alleys to Village One, where they learned new skills and were chosen to open a shop in Shashaato; Marcus described their lessons and the surprisingly enormous shop built for them.
  • Marcus hired girls and boys from Shashaato's back alleys, and Gordy investigated the hiring before recognizing Marcus's connections to Guraru and agreeing to help manage the shop's crowds.
  • Potty described how Paula hired her and nine other girls, provided them with clothes, meals, lodging, and lessons, and prepared them to serve customers at the curry shop.
  • Potty and the other girls arrived at the former materials storage yard, now roofed and fitted out as the shop, and began seeing the workplace where they would serve.

Ch. 29Festival and Heart-to-Heart Talks

Hiraku prepared for and hosted the village festival, where residents competed in quizzes and several cavalry battles. Afterward, he checked on the villages and spent the festival night talking with Lu and the others, while side stories followed a Succubus adjusting to Sun Castle and a boy named Bowie discovering target shooting.

  • Hiraku arranged the festival events, welcomed visitors, and discussed Shashaato’s great roof and the troubled effort to copy it with the Demon King and his companions.
  • Lu, the Demon King, Frau, Zabuton, and Hiraku Ichirou won the quiz categories, and the cavalry battles ended with victories for a lizardman team, the Death Knight and his lion, and Corone.
  • Hiraku reviewed the needs and progress of Villages One through Four, then spoke with residents and guests before Lu gathered him for a late-night heart-to-heart.
  • Venavolna described how the Succubus Race surrendered Sun Castle, adjusted to its new ruler, and offered him pleasant dreams that he declined.
  • Bowie explained how he won prizes at a target-shooting stall by learning its operators’ rhythms, then began practicing after the stall switched to a magic tool.
