I Think President Wilson Is a Smart Man
That day's parliamentary proceedings had reached their final stage.
Once the parliamentary clerks had recorded the full contents of the treaty, they stood quietly at the back.
They waited for the meeting to end so they could compile it into a formal treaty document.
Then would come the final signing ceremony. Once the representatives of every country had finished signing on the last day, the peace conference would officially conclude.
Finally, after Prime Minister George finished speaking, the representatives began leaving in an orderly fashion.
Some representatives wore joyful expressions, while others' faces were filled with disappointment.
As weak countries, although they bore the title of victors, they still had no say whatsoever in a parliament like this.
Even though they had given everything they could to help the Allies win this war.
They still could not get anything they wanted.
Among them were the thoroughly disappointed Italian representative and President Wilson.
Even at the end, the Italian representative was still wondering why the German emperor would speak up for Gu Weijun but not for them.
Weren't they supposed to be bros for life? Although he was on the winning side, he had fought shoulder to shoulder with the German Empire too.
It was just that the ending had not been quite so wonderful.
At that thought, the Italian representative gave His Majesty Eitel an apologetic look.
"Bro, I'll definitely pick you next time."
Although the Italian representative's gaze was rather abstract, somehow, as if guided by ghosts and spirits, Eitel understood what his eyes were saying.
Looking into the Italian representative's clear eyes, Eitel was so furious this time that he wanted to kill someone.
He glared viciously at the Italian representative, his eyes plainly saying, "Next time, I'll take you out first!"
But this time, the Italian representative, who was like a fresh-faced college boy, failed to understand the meaning in Eitel's eyes. He thought Eitel felt sorry for them.
He nodded dejectedly at him, then walked out of the conference hall.
Still seething, Eitel returned to his lodgings.
As soon as he sat down, Eitel waved Rommel over.
The moment Rommel entered, he could no longer contain his emotions. His normally composed face was flushed scarlet.
"Your Majesty, they've gone too far!"
"We're not signing this! We can still fight! The German Empire's three million soldiers can still fight!"
Rommel's words were filled with indignation and discontent. Anyone who had experienced that scene, especially when they themselves were the ones being butchered, would have felt the same.
They would have been unable to resist flipping the table and going down fighting with them.
Faced with Rommel's emotional words, Eitel merely leaned quietly against his chair, picked up a cup of black tea from the table, and took a sip.
"Calm down, Rommel. If we flip the table on them now, only a dead end awaits us."
"Now is not the time to fight again. What we lack most right now is time. As long as we can buy enough time."
"Trust me. I'll make them pay for their arrogance today."
Eitel's words carried an intense murderous intent. Compared with Rommel or Field Marshal Hindenburg.
How could he not feel humiliated too? But he was different. He was the emperor of the German Empire, and right now, he had to consider the bigger picture.
If his system had been something that gave him another soldier every second, or perhaps some kind of supply system.
Then he would never have swallowed his anger here.
But what he had awakened was the Hearts of Iron System. At present, the Hearts of Iron System could only let him develop slowly, not give him the thrill of battle.
With that thought, Eitel set down his teacup. It struck the tabletop with a sound neither loud nor soft.
"Development..."
As though something had occurred to him, Eitel looked at Rommel.
"Please inform President Wilson that I have a major business deal to discuss with him."
Looking at His Majesty Eitel, who had come up with another idea.
Rommel nodded solemnly, then headed out the door.
Watching Rommel's retreating figure, Eitel began to think.
"England's position is clear now. Securing their support is entirely possible, and with deep-pocketed America as well."
"The German Empire could absolutely develop rapidly after the armistice."
"As for France, although the war is about to end, France has no energy to spare to interfere with its development."
Thinking of France's current circumstances, Eitel could not help smiling.
"After all, the problems within France right now are hardly any less serious than those the German Empire faced before."
While Eitel was still thinking, Rommel knocked and entered.
"Your Majesty, President Wilson has agreed to see you."
"He also said that if you come in good faith, he is willing to treat you with sincerity."
Hearing Rommel's words, Eitel nodded. "Since President Wilson is willing to see me, that means he's still a smart man."
"Across the entire European Continent, I'm the only one he can support now. Neither England nor France can get along with them."
"Only an isolated German Empire meets their expectations, and it's not as though he can't see what England is scheming."
At that, Eitel stood and walked out. "Let's go. Let's meet this President Wilson now. Come to think of it, this will be our first face-to-face meeting."
After passing down a long corridor, Eitel and Rommel arrived at a door.
Two guards in military uniforms stood outside the room.
The guards glanced at Eitel, nodded, then stepped aside.
Rommel nodded, stepped forward, and opened the door.
Through the wide-open doorway, Eitel looked at President Wilson, who was smoking a cigar inside.
President Wilson already wore an unpleasant expression, and he gave a cold snort upon seeing Eitel.
But he did not refuse Eitel entry.
The moment Eitel entered, a smile appeared on his face.
"Oh, who has spoiled our President Wilson's good mood? As your friend, is there anything I can do to ease your troubles?"
Watching Eitel approach with a broad smile, Wilson's face darkened.
"I thought you would keep fighting. I never expected you to agree to their request for peace talks so quickly."
"You really have disappointed me."
Hearing Wilson's barbed words, Eitel's smile remained unchanged.
"You know our current situation too. We simply have no reason to keep fighting."
"Besides, that's not what I came to discuss this time. President Wilson, would you be interested in a major business deal?"
"A business deal?" A trace of puzzlement appeared on President Wilson's face at Eitel's words.
"Yes, a major business deal. Our High Seas Fleet. Interested?"
"That's a fully organized fleet with formidable combat power. I think that if you still want to contend for naval supremacy, you certainly won't pass this up."
"Well? Would you like to consider it?"
Eitel's words were like a demon that beguiled the soul, but they successfully aroused President Wilson's interest.
Leaning forward slightly, Wilson showed a hint of anticipation.
"Tell me more."
