Though they did not really know how capable a comfort dog was, they all knew Liao Mei had spent nearly fifty thousand on this dog.
No matter how they looked at it, that fifty thousand seemed to have bought a dog with mobility issues.
Chang Yu wore an I-knew-it expression.
Facing everyone's disbelieving looks, Chang Yu remained perfectly composed. He had already accepted that Xiaotu was a dog committed to lying flat.
"Xiaotu really can't do it. Don't ask him next time."
Unwilling to give up, Xi Wu went over and shook the golden retriever on the ground furiously. The golden retriever remained motionless, as though dead asleep.
Had he misjudged him?
Xi Wu was utterly crestfallen. Chang Yu picked up the golden retriever, who was half pretending to sleep and half actually asleep, and took him home.
It was already one in the morning when they returned. Chang Yu took a quick shower and went to bed.
As for the golden retriever who had just been lying on the lawn, he would be taken to the pet shop for a bath tomorrow.
They would just have to make do for tonight.
Yan Junye opened his eyes the next morning in utter bliss: petty Chang Yu had finally not dragged him to the office.
He was just about to stand up and rummage through the fridge when he heard the door opening. Startled, he immediately put his front paws down.
His tail spun like a propeller, but when he went out to look, it was Chang Yu's assistant, not Chang Yu.
His tail stopped at once, and his fawning doggy expression instantly turned serious again.
He barked and rattled his bowl around, making it clatter to signal that it was time to serve his meal.
The elite assistant, who had imagined coming to the CEO's home to report on work, now crouched down in despair and set out the dog food.
"Eat up. Mr. Chang said to bring you malatang, but I think he gave that instruction for the wrong person. As a pet dog, of course you should still be eating dog food."
He had considered asking Mr. Chang again, but Mr. Chang was in a meeting.
He was also worried about making Mr. Chang's precious dog sick, so he ultimately chose dog food to be safe.
Yan Junye had been yearning for malatang for ages. How could he tolerate having it snatched away from right in front of his mouth?
"Woof, woof, woof!"
[He didn't give it for the wrong person! How could your Mr. Chang possibly do that?! Go buy it for me!]
He raced around the apartment in protest, but the assistant completely failed to recognize his insistence.
One-star review!
Yan Junye ate two pieces of kibble to tide himself over and waited for Chang Yu to come home that evening and feed him.
Having had no meal, Yan Junye decided to wait for evening in the least calorie-consuming way possible. Before he could lie down, he was stopped.
"Mr. Chang said to take you for a bath."
Yan Junye could not help grumbling inwardly: Being a clean freak's dog sure isn't easy.
Still, a golden retriever had a fairly strong doggy smell and long fur, so regular cleaning was very necessary.
As a busy man and a clean freak, Chang Yu certainly would not do it himself. He would only generously send him straight to the pet shop.
After much dawdling and a wash and grooming session, the assistant continued walking the dog. Other CEOs' assistants and secretaries were also walking dogs around the residential complex on orders.
While the dogs played together, the assistant stood off to one side chatting with people, seeking a moment of emotional comfort.
That way, he could feel that he was not the only one failing to move forward!
It was just like being late for school and discovering that you were not the only one.
His worries instantly vanished.
However, he noticed that everyone's attention seemed to be on Xiaotu.
Xiaotu looked perfectly normal, though he could even be described as somewhat afraid of these dogs approaching him.
Yan Junye remembered these dogs. He kept his tail pressed tightly against his hind legs, terrified that his chastity would be lost.
The seemingly innocent, harmless Samoyed touched the golden retriever with a paw. "Don't be so nervous. None of us are male dogs. We won't do anything to you."
Yan Junye seemed to finally understand why he was being surrounded and stared at.
He sat down to protect himself, but still could not stop determined dogs from trying to sniff his rear.
The Samoyed happily circled the golden retriever. Although she had not managed to exchange greetings, she still cheerfully rubbed her soft head against him.
Yan Junye suppressed the urge to pet her.
But the Samoyed's fur simply looked so soft and fluffy. It had to feel wonderful to pet!
Damn it, fluffy things led people astray!
Yan Junye dug his doggy paws into the floor, doing his utmost to restrain his itching hands.
Noticing the golden retriever's restraint, the Samoyed raised her tail and swept it across his face, asking demurely, "Want to be with me?"
Yan Junye's doggy face was filled with distress. As a human, he really could not date a dog, especially since the Samoyed was not even male.
At most, their relationship could only be one of petting and being petted.
Amid a softness that felt like being surrounded by clouds, Yan Junye still firmly shook his head. "There's no chance for us."
While he was still fretting over how to escape, he heard someone call out warningly, "Coconut, stay away from him."
The Samoyed reluctantly backed away two steps.
Yan Junye's constantly tense tail could finally relax a little.
He was just about to resume his search for a new owner when he saw the mockery at the corners of the bichon's mouth.
The bichon was visiting the Golden Cauldron Residential Complex.
Yan Junye used his body, three times stronger than the bichon's, to intimidate him. "Don't breathe a word about what happened last night!"
The bichon used his sufficiently long curls to hide half of his round eyes. "But the husky ran a lap around the complex, and everyone already knows."
Yan Junye was so furious he bounced around on the spot, looking ready to imitate the husky and dig a hole in the ground. He did not resemble a gentle golden retriever at all.
"It's all that bastard Xi Wu's fault for insisting on getting me to catch that cat. If it weren't for him, how could I have embarrassed myself like that?"
"I refuse to believe Xi Wu doesn't have any juicy gossip. Hurry up and think of some dirt on him!"
The Samoyed raised a white paw. "I know this one."
"Wow, a top-tier tycoon turns out to be a total slave to his wife, and she even kicked him out at night!"
In truth, in a wealthy neighborhood, men like Xi Wu, who obeyed their wives so completely and followed their every lead, were very rare.
Even men from ordinary families rarely submitted entirely to their wives.
The bichon explained, "Basically, Xi Wu didn't catch the cat last night and got scolded by his wife. He and the husky were both punished by having to sleep in the living room."
Yan Junye: "..." Fine, that barely counted as gossip.
One day, he would definitely let Xi Wu's wife know that Xi Wu had spent a night having fun at a bar instead of catching the cat.
Having settled on his revenge plan, the golden retriever began plotting about a new owner again.
"Is there any other household in the Golden Cauldron Residential Complex that wants a dog? I can pretend to be lost and go to their home myself."
An orange-and-white Shiba Inu came out and circled the golden retriever. "My owner wants another dog. Want to come?"
Yan Junye sneaked away with the Shiba Inu. The Samoyed wanted to sneak off with them too, but was caught by the scruff of her neck.
It was rare for Chang Yu not to drag him to the office. Of course he had to seize such a wonderful opportunity himself.
They took the elevator upstairs. Seeing the Shiba Inu, the butler opened the door as usual, except there was a golden retriever following behind.
He stopped the golden retriever and went inside to announce him.
Yan Junye sniffed here and looked there, hearing a man inside mention Evergreen Company in a very rough voice, along with a whole load of other things.
He sounded furious. Well, well. Unless something unexpected was going on, he probably had a grudge against Chang Yu.
As the dog who followed Chang Yu around, how would he dare go inside?
Without waiting for the Shiba Inu to come out, Yan Junye bolted and vanished without a trace.
Luckily he had run fast, or his doggy life would surely have been in danger today.
As though nothing had happened, he returned to the dogs, then pretended he was planning to visit the Shiba Inu's home and casually asked them:
"What's the Shiba Inu's owner like?"
The Samoyed blinked her big, innocent eyes at the golden retriever. "His owner is busy with work, so we rarely see him, but we see his son quite often."
No matter how many times she told it, she still found it funny. The smiling angel of a Samoyed flashed her signature smile.
"I heard his son was even dragged to the hospital for genetic testing before because he was too stupid. His parents seriously suspected there had been a mix-up at the hospital."
At this point, curiosity filled the Samoyed's eyes. "But why are you so determined to find a different owner?"
Chang Yu was the man their whole group of dogs agreed was the most handsome.
Since transmigrating into a dog's body, Yan Junye had put on at least fifty performances, if not a hundred.
He spoke with a face full of grief, as though he truly felt sorry for Chang Yu. "My owner can't perform. He really can't. Do you know why his fiancée-"
