Background / History
Tang San entered Notting City's Junior Spirit Master Academy with the Village Chief. When the academy guards questioned his spirit master certificate, Yu Xiaogang verified it and recognized him as a rare Twin Martial Soul possessor. Tang San accepted Yu Xiaogang as his teacher with a formal kneeling ceremony, seeking guidance in Spirit power and the cultivation of his Blue Silver Grass and Clear Sky Hammer. 56
After being killed by the Hundred-Thousand-Year Earth Tyrant Dragon, he experienced a return to the Bashu Tang Sect as a six-year-old with no memory of his former lives. Sect Master Tang Yin took him as a closed-door disciple; Tang San embraced the chance to study the Mysterious Heaven Treasure Record and Tang Sect hidden weapons openly. The experience was later revealed to be an illusion. 107 108
Ning Bei's intervention during the Star Dou Great Forest incident forcibly gave Tang San four yellow spirit rings on each martial soul and a complete set of soul bones, vaulting him to rank 45. Tang San was troubled rather than pleased by the unnatural advancement and the poor quality of the rings. 108 110
He trained at Shrek Academy under Yu Xiaogang, fought alongside its students, and learned that his father Tang Hao was the Clear Sky Douluo. Believing Martial Soul Hall to be responsible for his family's suffering, Tang San developed a lasting desire for revenge. 165
After surviving Slaughter City and Hell Road, Tang San struggled to control his murderous intent and the Slaughter God's Domain. He studied music under Tang Yuehua at Moon Pavilion to restrain his emotions, enduring harassment by noble students rather than bring trouble upon his aunt. 323 336 338
Tang Yuehua later brought him to the Clear Sky Sect, where Tang Xiao provided the sect's supreme techniques and directed his physical training. Tang San practiced moving ores barehanded and trained the Rampaging Wind Hammer Technique beneath a waterfall. 361 364 371
Following attacks on his disciples and the spread of his feared reputation, Tang San rebuilt the Tang Sect through Slaughter Town. He recruited Fallen, used Blood Devour to take cultivation from enemies, and expanded the sect into a feared organization that accepted assassination, escort, and Soul Hunting commissions. 453 455 467 480
Tang San ultimately completed the Asura God's trials through Slaughter City. He killed the Slaughter King, who was revealed to be his great-grandfather Tang Chen, inherited Tang Chen's cultivation knowledge and Shura Sword, and later inherited the Asura God throne after reviving from death. 550 551 567
Appearance
Tang San was originally a blue-haired boy of ordinary appearance. His appearance and demeanor changed substantially after Slaughter City, where he became taller, more mature, cold, and sinister. 56 293
- Blue hair during his enrollment at Notting Academy. 56
- Pale long hair and blood-red eyes during an illusionary war against Spirit Hall. 405
- Scarlet eyes during Asura trial-related cultivation and Shura Sword use. 551 563
- Uses disguise through the Chameleon Right Arm Bone, including the form of an old man. 478 562
Personality
Tang San is serious, mature, and intensely respectful toward teachers and elders. His decision to kneel before Yu Xiaogang reflected his belief that “a teacher for a day is a father for life.” 56
He is a patient and strategic combatant who favors preparation, poisons, hidden weapons, mobility, and exploiting an opponent's mistakes. In Slaughter City, he waited for his enemies to exhaust themselves, poisoned them without detection, and finished them only after their strength failed. 233 294
His experiences in Slaughter City and repeated persecution hardened him into a ruthless figure. He increasingly treated those who opposed or feared him as enemies, used Blood Devour to gain strength, and was willing to recruit Fallen for the Tang Sect despite Yu Xiaogang's moral concerns. 438 455 467 468
