Five dice, all rolled as ones?
Su Yi couldn't help smiling. This was simply too easy for him.
He placed his hand on the dice cup and jerked it upward, sending all five dice flying into the air. Few of the bar's lights were on, and Zhang Ting couldn't even make out how he caught them.
But that dice-tossing move alone looked impressive, even if she didn't understand it!
He had definitely practiced!
Zhang Ting stared unblinkingly at the dice cup in Su Yi's hand until he set it on the table.
"Five ones?" Zhang Ting raised her eyebrows. Why did she find that so hard to believe?
Su Yi extended a hand, gesturing for her to lift it herself, and smiled without a word.
Zhang Ting curiously lifted the dice cup. At the sight before her, she raised her eyebrows and looked at Su Yi in astonishment.
Su Yi had rolled more than just five ones.
The five dice before her were stacked neatly in a single column, with the top die clearly showing a one.
Zhang Ting took the dice down one by one. Every single one was a one!
A trick like this sounded simple enough, but in reality, even someone like Zhang Ting, who had run a bar for years, had never seen it.
If she had to say she had, it would have been in movies and magic shows.
"Now that's a bit ridiculous!"
A handsome young man came over, stared at the dice, and exclaimed in surprise, "Sister Ting, where did you find this god-tier expert?"
"Little He, can you do that?" Zhang Ting asked the handsome young man.
Little He's head shook like a rattle-drum. "If I were that amazing, I wouldn't get drunk under the table every night." Then his eyes lit up, and he hurriedly pulled a pack of cigarettes from his pocket and offered one to Su Yi.
"Big brother, are you still taking disciples?" Little He had figured it out. If he had skills like these, wouldn't he be able to sweep through the nightlife scene unhindered?
"No!" Su Yi refused decisively, though he accepted the cigarette. "But if you want to learn, I can teach you."
"Really?" Little He was incredibly excited. He lit his lighter and brought it over as well. "Brother, my name's He Liao. Just call me Little He."
"All right." Su Yi lit his cigarette and took a drag. There had been cigarettes fifty years ago, too.
"Don't get so excited just yet." Zhang Ting hurriedly stopped them and said, "Su Yi, roll five sixes for me, stacked just like before. Can you do that?"
Su Yi picked up the dice cup and flicked his wrist, scooping the dice into it. With just a light shake, he lifted the cup, revealing the five dice stacked in a column again.
"I... that works too?" Little He's eyes nearly popped out. He had originally intended to take this opportunity to learn a little first.
But Su Yi had merely flicked his wrist, and five sixes were stacked up. How was he supposed to learn that?
Copy his movements, or copy his face?
Zhang Ting's mouth hung open, a giddy grin spreading across her face despite herself.
I've found a treasure!
This time, I really might have found a treasure!
"Sister Ting, does what you said about doubling my pay still stand?" Su Yi had no interest in money people gave him for nothing, but earning it himself was a different matter altogether.
"Of course," Zhang Ting said decisively. "As long as you work conscientiously and really can drink as much as you say, your base pay will be six thousand, plus commission on drinks. With good sales, making ten or twenty thousand a month will be easy."
"Sounds good." Su Yi had some understanding of modern prices, too. A jin of rice cost only two or three yuan, and pork in Qingzhou City was only forty-something a jin. Ten or twenty thousand a month would have counted as a high income fifty years ago, wouldn't it?
"All right, then. Tonight, Little He will take you along to keep my girlfriends company." Zhang Ting said to He Liao, "Little He, teach him the things you usually play. He doesn't know them yet."
He Liao was a little puzzled. From the way Su Yi had tossed the dice, he had thought he was an expert who had spent years in the nightlife scene. He hadn't expected Zhang Ting to ask him to show Su Yi the ropes.
"Brother Su, right? Have you played fifteen-twenty?" Little He asked Su Yi.
Su Yi shook his head honestly.
Little He took a deep breath and briefly explained the rules.
Then the two began throwing out their hands.
"Fifteen-twenty! Fifteen!"
"Fifteen-twenty! Five!"
He Liao paused. "Pretty lucky, winning your very first round. Let's try again."
Su Yi smiled. Wasn't this little game a bit too simple?
Never mind guessing the other person's thoughts. With his reaction speed alone, as long as he didn't want to lose, there was no possibility of losing.
They played twenty rounds in succession, and He Liao's composure had completely exploded.
"Sister Ting, are you sure he really doesn't know how to play?"
There were hardly any customers in the bar yet, and He Liao shouted out loud. He was genuinely questioning his life.
He was known as the Little God of Wine at the Sober Bar, too. It wasn't that he could drink that much, but mainly that he was extremely good at all sorts of drinking games. Yet now, playing fifteen-twenty, he had lost twenty rounds in a row. Although he hadn't drunk anything, his composure had already exploded into pieces.
Zhang Ting had already walked over. She glanced at Su Yi and said, "He said he didn't know how."
"I've lost twenty rounds." Little He looked at Zhang Ting as though he had nothing left to live for. "He's obviously playing the pig to eat the tiger."
Zhang Ting was shocked, too. Normally, it was hard to win twenty rounds in a row at a little game like fifteen-twenty. At least, in all these years, this was her first time seeing it.
"Then try playing something else."
He Liao said helplessly, "Finger-guessing, then!"
Su Yi just looked at him.
"Don't tell me you don't know this one either!" Little He was very glad they had only been playing for fun earlier. Otherwise, after twenty straight cups right at the start, he could pretty much forget about working tonight.
Su Yi nodded again. "I really don't!"
Little He explained the rules to him again.
Ten minutes later...
Little He and Zhang Ting sat across from Su Yi, both staring blankly at him.
Little He had lost thirty-five rounds in a row, and Zhang Ting had lost twenty-one.
Both of them shut down.
"Let's play bull-bull!" Little He explained the rules of bull-bull to Su Yi as well.
After three rounds, they stopped playing.
Su Yi got bull-bull every single round. How the hell were they supposed to keep playing?
Zhang Ting had figured it out. As long as a little game involved dice or finger-guessing, Su Yi was invincible.
"Little Su, listen. You're very good at these games, but you can't play like this." Zhang Ting had now thoroughly witnessed Su Yi's abilities, but she still had to say, "When you're playing with customers, if you keep winning, they won't have any fun. Lose one out of three rounds, or one out of four. At the very least, you have to lose sometimes. Also, if a customer loses three times in a row, you have to drink a cup with them."
If Su Yi was this invincible when keeping customers company, who would dare ask for him again after playing with him once?
