A group of burly men all testified against Lin Fei, and with Han Enci also reporting him under his real name, Lin Fei was taken into custody pending further investigation. Given the violence he had displayed, Liu Shenghao feared he would cause more trouble and, without any hesitation, had him put in handcuffs and even leg irons.
Only then did he feel much more at ease. In his view, no matter how skilled Lin Fei was, there was absolutely no way he could break free of metal handcuffs.
Lin Fei smiled without a word and calmly accepted it. Since he had called Jiang Tianling, there was no need to blow things out of proportion.
He disliked trouble.
When Lin Fei entered the cell, there were already over a dozen people inside. They were all tattooed with dragons and phoenixes, and many bore hideous, frightening knife scars. One glance was enough to tell that they were no ordinary characters.
Seeing the delicate-featured Lin Fei walk in, the hardened criminals all turned to look at him, fixing their eyes on the newcomer.
What rather surprised Lin Fei was that after the officers left, none of them rushed over to pick a fight with him.
A burly bald man was clearly their boss. He gave the others a meaningful look, then shook his head slightly.
At their bald boss's signal, obvious surprise appeared on their faces. But they said nothing more and went back to their own business without restraint.
The bald man took a crumpled half-pack of cigarettes from beneath his pillow. Without offering any to the others, he stuck one between his lips. A lackey immediately came forward, knowing what was expected, and lit it for him.
Lin Fei merely gave them a casual glance, then lost all interest in observing them.
A rather lean young man gave Lin Fei a couple more looks, then could not help lowering his voice to ask the bald boss, "Brother Hai, aren't we going to put this newcomer in his place? Teach him the rules and have him run errands for us?"
"This guy isn't simple. No need to provoke him over something so trivial," Brother Hai said gravely, rubbing his bald head.
"Didn't you notice? When he came in and saw us, his expression didn't change one bit. His eyes are cold, too. He's definitely no ordinary character. I keep telling you to learn from me, but not one of you knows how to read people?"
"In short, just don't provoke him," Brother Hai warned seriously.
A burly, bushy-bearded man looked astonished and could not help sizing Lin Fei up again. "His hands and feet are shackled. Is he really that formidable?"
Brother Hai sneered and said flatly, "Are you a fucking idiot? Aside from him, which of us has both our hands and feet shackled?"
Understanding immediately dawned on the bearded man's face, and he slapped his thigh hard. "I get it! You really do have a sharp eye, Brother Hai!"
The cops had shackled both Lin Fei's hands and feet, which meant his fighting skills made them very wary.
They thought they were speaking very quietly, unaware that Lin Fei's hearing allowed him to catch every word perfectly.
Yet Lin Fei did not react at all. He could not be bothered with what they thought. With nothing to do anyway, he merely wanted somewhere to lie down.
The best bunk in the entire cell was the one Brother Hai was sitting on. Perhaps because he had his lackeys do the work, the bedding had been washed clean. Not only that, it was near the window, where the air was much fresher.
Lin Fei strolled over to Brother Hai as leisurely as if walking through a quiet courtyard and said indifferently, "Move. I'm taking this bunk."
Lin Fei's voice was neither loud nor soft, but once he finished speaking, the entire room fell utterly silent, as quiet as death.
The hardened criminals all stared at him, dumbstruck. Then the cell erupted like a pot boiling over, filled with furious curses.
"You fucking looking to die?"
"You dare mess with Brother Hai?"
"Fuck your mother! Don't you know the rules?"
Brother Hai's face darkened. He raised a hand to stop the others from attacking, his voice thick with warning. "Buddy, what's that supposed to mean? I wasn't going to bother you, and now you're coming after me?"
Lin Fei could not be bothered to waste words on him. His voice abruptly turned cold. "I told you to get the hell out of the way. Don't you understand?"
"Fuck your mother! I gave you face, and you won't take it. You really think you're somebody?" Brother Hai flew into a towering rage and hurled his massive fist at Lin Fei's face.
Many in the cell watched with glee at his impending misfortune, while some shook their heads mockingly, thinking, This guy's probably a lunatic. Brother Hai wasn't even going to bother him, yet he dared provoke him first. Isn't he just asking for it?
Yet in the next instant, their eyes widened, unable to believe what they were seeing.
Because Lin Fei, whom they had thought was asking for it, seized Brother Hai's wrist and twisted it.
With a sharp crack, Brother Hai's wrist was wrenched out of its socket.
The pain made veins bulge on Brother Hai's forehead. He screamed and roared furiously, "Fuck your mother! Get him! Beat him to death!"
The gang swarmed him, but before they could even see how Lin Fei struck, they were kicked flying in every direction. Clattering crashes rang out one after another, leaving Lin Fei the only person standing calmly in the cell.
Han Enci, who had falsely accused Lin Fei, felt immensely pleased and burst out laughing after hearing from the burly men. Merely imagining Lin Fei locked up and brutally beaten by the other criminals gave him a secret thrill. He had no idea that the situation inside the cell was completely different from what they imagined.
Under the utterly horrified gazes of the hardened criminals, Lin Fei exerted a little strength with both hands and easily snapped the handcuffs and leg irons with sharp cracks!
The clang of broken metal falling to the floor seemed to strike their hearts directly, making them shudder with fright.
Brother Hai swallowed, his scalp tingling.
Was this an immortal or a monster?!
"I want to sleep on this bunk. Any more objections?" Lin Fei gave him an indifferent glance.
Brother Hai froze for a moment. He had been scared witless and thought Lin Fei was going to strike again, never expecting that he merely wanted to sleep on this bunk.
When Brother Hai came to his senses, he immediately breathed a sigh of relief and hurriedly bowed and scraped. "No objections, none at all. Please, go right ahead..."
Lin Fei pillowed his head on his hands and lay leisurely on the bunk, crossing his legs and closing his eyes to rest.
The entire cell was silent as cicadas in the cold. Not a single person dared utter so much as half a word, afraid of disturbing this mighty god's rest.
On the street, a police car hurtled straight through a red light, its siren wailing as it exercised its privileges as an emergency vehicle. Its headlong rush left many people privately wondering what had happened.
Jiang Tianling sat in the car, his face so dark it looked as though water could be wrung from it.
The more he thought about it, the angrier he grew, until he slammed his fist hard against the seat. "How can anyone handle things so carelessly? They didn't even investigate the whole story!"
Xiao Zhang cautiously tried to soothe him. "Chief Jiang, please calm down. Judging by the incident, this Lin Fei does pose a certain danger. There's nothing wrong with restraining him first."
"I just hope that bastard doesn't lay a hand on him." Jiang Tianling rubbed his temples, his head aching more the longer he thought about it.
Xiao Zhang frowned and asked tentatively, "Chief Jiang, what's Lin Fei's background? Why are you so worried something will happen to him?"
As though he had heard a joke, Jiang Tianling gave an irritated sneer. "I'm not worried about anything happening to Lin Fei."
"I'm worried about something happening to Liu Shenghao!"
Xiao Zhang was dumbfounded and could not speak for a long while.
