Background
Fang Youwei is Shen Yannian’s childhood friend. Both graduated from University A, continued their studies overseas, and subsequently returned home. Fang later became CEO of Fang Group 25 38.
Before pursuing Liang Tian, Fang had a reputation as a playboy. Shen Yannian describes him as going through five or six boyfriends a year, contradicting Fang’s claim that he keeps his private life “very clean” 25.
Appearance
- Height and build: Approximately as tall as Shen Yannian, with a solid, imposing physique 37.
- Looks: Liang Tian considers him handsome and acknowledges that he has a good body 38.
Personality
Fang is playful, socially confident, and quick to tease his friends. He openly mocks Shen Yannian when Su Cimu’s presence at a bar contradicts Shen’s description of his well-behaved fiancé. However, he also recognizes when to defuse tension, moving a public confrontation upstairs and offering a toast to prevent an argument 24 25.
His pursuit of Liang Tian combines earnest interest with pressure and manipulation. He insists that Liang must “take responsibility” for their sexual encounter by dating him, then invokes their agreement to discourage an early breakup. At the same time, he promises exclusivity, offers Liang access to his phone, and waits several hours without complaint while Liang works in a laboratory 38 39 40.
Despite his dating history, Fang describes himself as faithful within relationships. His promises not to cheat, two-time, or use the silent treatment are claims he makes while asking Liang Tian to consider him as a partner 38.
Relationships
- Liang Tian — Boyfriend. Their first meeting leads to a sexual encounter, followed by Fang’s persistent courtship and Liang’s agreement to a three-month trial relationship 25 37 39.
- Shen Yannian — Childhood friend and fellow University A graduate. Their friendship includes frequent teasing; Shen also entrusts Fang with notifying him when Su Cimu finishes his campus research work 25 40.
- Su Cimu — Friend’s fiancé and Liang Tian’s protective younger cousin. Su distrusts Fang’s intentions toward Liang, while Fang calls Su their “matchmaker” and tries to win his approval 25 39 40.
- Jing Yiheng — Meets him at Su Cimu and Shen Yannian’s new apartment. Jing tentatively recognizes Fang from financial news coverage 50.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Night Bar and Meeting Liang Tian
Fang first appears celebrating a major project with Shen Yannian at the Night Bar. Curious about Shen’s engagement, he asks whether Shen is serious about Su Cimu and expresses interest in meeting the young man who publicly exposed his former fiancé. Moments after Shen calls Su well-behaved, Fang spots him drinking downstairs with Liang Tian and points him out 23 24.
After Shen intervenes in a confrontation involving a knife-wielding harasser, Fang suggests taking the discussion to a private room. He prevents Liang Tian from slipping away, introduces himself to Su Cimu, and begins flirting with Liang. Su warns him not to toy with his inexperienced cousin’s feelings 25.
Fang drinks with Liang and agrees to take him home after he becomes heavily intoxicated. Liang later reveals that they slept together that night and that he left the following morning 25 26 37.
Pursuing Liang Tian
When Liang ignores his calls and messages, Fang confronts him at the campus gates. After Su Cimu threatens to report Fang for sexual harassment, Fang counters by threatening to report Liang for raping him while drunk. Liang rejects the accusation and says that both had been willing. As Liang leaves, Fang declares that he will eventually persuade him to date 36.
Encouraged by Su, Liang arranges a café meeting to settle the matter. Fang arrives half an hour early. Liang acknowledges initiating their encounter but argues that Fang was sober and should stop pursuing him; Fang instead insists on a relationship rather than money or other compensation 37 38.
When Liang says he wants his first relationship to be with someone he loves, Fang responds with a serious appeal: Liang is exactly his type, and he intends to pamper him and remain faithful 38.
Three-Month Trial Relationship
Liang agrees to date Fang for three months, provided Fang cuts off his other flings. If Liang has not fallen for him by the end, they are to separate amicably without bringing up their earlier encounter. Fang accepts and offers to let Liang inspect his phone and delete contacts himself 39.
After adding Liang on WeChat, Fang saves him as “Wife” and persuades Liang to save his own contact as “Husband.” He accompanies Liang to the library, where he thanks a dismayed Su Cimu for bringing them together 39.
Fang becomes anxious when Su urges Liang to break up with him. Reassured that Liang will honor the three-month agreement, he considers giving Su gifts to discourage further objections. He later waits at the campus café for several hours while the cousins conduct research, then takes Liang out for dinner 40.
Housewarming Visit
When Liang is invited to lunch at Su Cimu and Shen Yannian’s new apartment, Fang insists on accompanying him. He brings a small housewarming gift, congratulates Su, and introduces himself to Jing Yiheng as Liang Tian’s boyfriend 50.
