Low growls of Demon Beasts drifted through the mountain forest from time to time. Anywhere outside the base city-
Was practically a paradise for Demon Beasts!
Thud! A young figure carrying a plump shadow rat flung it heavily aside, then used the dark-gold longsword in his hand to devour it directly.
"Looks like I'll have to keep devouring high-level Beast Soldiers if I want to reach the level of a high-level Martial Artist," the young man in black mused.
He could feel that his strength had not improved much.
"Clearly, this Devouring System can keep increasing my strength through devouring, but the effects of devouring weaker Demon Beasts keep diminishing, unless I devour them in large numbers."
After several days of constant killing and devouring in the mountain forest, Chu Tiannan had clearly grown more accustomed to his current life. With his powerful soul force, he easily avoided powerful Demon Beasts.
These days of traveling, along with devouring low-level Demon Beasts, had brought Chu Tiannan to the peak of an intermediate Martial Artist.
Yet for some reason, Chu Tiannan found that whether he devoured intermediate Beast Soldiers or low-level Beast Soldiers, he still could not break through that bottleneck.
"Looks like this Devouring System has its drawbacks too. If I want to raise my level, I have to devour Demon Beasts stronger than me."
He secured the Heaven-Deriving Sword on his back again and swept his gaze over his surroundings. Then his eyes narrowed, a keen glint shining within them.
He had spotted a graceful figure moving swiftly along the road below.
Judging by the figure's agile speed and the power bursting from beneath her feet, she was clearly a Martial Artist.
"After all these days, I've finally met a fellow human."
Chu Tiannan spoke with a smile, but just as he was about to move, he made a startling discovery.
Behind that graceful figure, no fewer than four demon wolves were pursuing her madly.
"One person provoked four demon wolves? Could she be a Martial Master?"
Martial Artists were the lowest rank, an entry-level realm, equivalent to Beast Soldiers among Demon Beasts.
Martial Masters, on the other hand, were more powerful martial practitioners. Their combat strength was far more terrifying, enough to kill any Beast Soldier in an instant.
Compared to Martial Masters, Martial Artists were like firefly light beside the bright moon.
They were not on the same level at all!
Chu Tiannan had initially intended to go over and greet her, but the sight of the four demon wolves stopped him in his tracks.
"Although I'm strong enough to take on a demon wolf head-on now, four demon wolves..." Reason told Chu Tiannan not to provoke them at all, but he discovered that the human being pursued-
Was actually a young girl!
Roar!
As though chasing prey for amusement, the four demon wolves growled excitedly, watching the graceful figure in yellow fleeing ahead. They had already been pursuing her for a full half hour.
Yet they had not immediately lunged in for the kill. They wanted to drive her to despair!
"Hmph!" The fleeing girl snorted coldly. She knew running was no solution. Human stamina could not outlast a Demon Beast's.
"She actually stopped?" Seeing the girl in yellow standing atop a car after being pursued, Chu Tiannan looked stunned, then frowned slightly.
"Is she planning to fight them head-on?"
From the way the girl had been fleeing all this time, Chu Tiannan understood that she was nowhere near the Martial Master level. Otherwise, the four demon wolves would have been the ones running.
Whoosh!
Seeing her stop, one of the four demon wolves slowly advanced. Seemingly out of patience, it lunged viciously at her with tremendous speed and a chilling growl.
Squelch!
A bloody scene was naturally inevitable, but the one that fell was not the girl in yellow who had been pursued. It was the first demon wolf to pounce.
Thud! The first demon wolf's body was instantly cleaved in two. It died without knowing why; even at its death, it might not have understood how it had been killed.
Hum! A scarlet glow coalesced. The girl in yellow now held a greatsword utterly disproportionate to her size, watching the three demon wolves before her coldly.
Roar! The three demon wolves let out low, furious growls, but showed a trace of wariness toward the greatsword that had suddenly appeared in her hand.
"This..." Chu Tiannan was the most shocked of all, for he noticed that the girl was now holding a pitch-black sword hilt.
Above the hilt was a scarlet greatsword that seemed to have condensed from energy. At first glance-
The greatsword and the girl were utterly disproportionate.
Even so, Chu Tiannan could tell that she did not seem to be struggling much.
"A giant lightsaber... Looks like this girl has quite a background!" Drawing solely on his memories, Chu Tiannan quickly identified the weapon in her hand.
Lightsabers were the pinnacle of advanced weaponry. The cost of making one was far beyond what ordinary people could afford. Generally, only descendants of great families or powerful Martial Artists possessed them.
"Hmph!" She had swiftly slain an unprepared demon wolf, but now the girl in yellow's delicate brows were tightly furrowed. Clearly, that strike had already consumed most of her strength.
It seemed that even powerful weapons had certain limitations when used.
Roar! Seemingly noticing something, the remaining three demon wolves growled excitedly. This time, they did not fight alone.
Instead, they chose to surround her from three directions. Although Beast Soldier-level Demon Beasts lacked intelligence, wolves were born with ferocity and a pack instinct!
Roar!
Without any hesitation, the three demon wolves lunged viciously at the girl holding the greatsword from three directions, swift and ferocious.
