Background / History

Arrival and Awakening

Luo Chen was an overworked employee on Earth who died in his rented room after working overtime. The Long Aotian System transported him to the Douluo Continent as a beautiful five-year-old orphan, then abandoned him because the world’s spiritual Qi was too thin. It left a beginner’s gift pack scheduled to open at his Martial Soul awakening. The old chief of Bluestone Village found him alone and took him in 1.

A year later, Luo Chen awakened twin Scorpion Emperor Martial Souls and innate full Soul Power. He concealed his second Martial Soul, while the Spirit Hall deacon mistook the first for a Nether Devil Scorpion. Luo Chen declined recruitment, preferring to study before joining a faction, but remained grateful to the deacon for awakening his Martial Soul and arranging help at Nuoding City Junior Academy 1 2.

Nuoding City Junior Academy

Despite intending to avoid Tang San, Luo Chen unknowingly befriended him on the way to enrollment and helped him pass the academy guards. Before learning his name, Luo Chen criticized Yu Xiaogang as someone who appropriated Spirit Hall’s research and sought talented disciples to validate his theories. He later rejected Yu Xiaogang’s demand to become his outer disciple, even when Tang San urged him to reconsider 3 4 5.

Luo Chen researched Soul Beasts, began cultivating his two manuals, and entered the Soul Hunting Forest alone. There, his Martial Soul’s presence frightened a 700-year Nine Poison Scorpion to death. After absorbing its ring and spending two months learning to control his tails, he returned to the academy and defeated Tang San in a public duel. He withdrew his venom afterward and praised Tang San’s hidden weapons; Yu Xiaogang instead denounced and disowned his defeated disciple 6 7 8 9 11.

Tang San subsequently admitted that Luo Chen had been right about Yu Xiaogang and resolved to sever their master-disciple relationship. Luo Chen announced his own departure from the academy, then reflected on whether his interference had altered Tang San’s future 13.

Training and the Star Dou Great Forest

After two years of training in Bluestone Village, Luo Chen reached rank 20. Before leaving for his second Soul Ring, he arranged for villagers to care for the old chief and left him half his Gold Soul Coins. Traveling through the woods with his tail as a grappling aid, he reached the Star Dou Great Forest in one month 15.

His hunt for a 1,780-year Netherworld Stinger Scorpion exposed his dependence on brute force: its needles pierced his transformed defenses. He won by baiting it into obstructing its own vision, then striking its vulnerable abdomen with his nine hooks. Absorbing its ring required both the Hook Swords’ devouring ability and flesh purified by the Karmic Fire Scorpion Emperor 17 18 19 21.

After obtaining his second External Soul Bone, Luo Chen fled from Di Tian. He concealed himself beneath a lake, discovered the Karmic Fire Scorpion Emperor’s underground breathing and sight, and spent three months digging his way out of the forest 22 23.

Mercenary Work and the Soto Great Soul Arena

Unable to afford the arena’s ten-Gold-Soul-Coin registration fee, Luo Chen founded the Luo Chen Soul Hunting Squad. Although onlookers mocked his age and prices, Wang Gang hired him to secure a thousand-year Ironclad Rhinoceros. Luo Chen subdued the beast, allowed Wang Gang to deliver the killing blow, and earned 160 Gold Soul Coins 24 25 26.

He entered the arena as Demon Scorpion and faced Shui Bing’er, whom he had previously met in the Star Dou Great Forest. The arena’s masked young master later demanded that Luo Chen become his disciple. Luo Chen resisted intimidation but accepted after the man claimed authorship of two reference books that had guided his Soul Ring choices 27 29 31.

Betrayal and the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well

The young master spent three months stimulating Luo Chen’s Nether God Bloodline with silver needles, raising his Soul Power to rank 30. Luo Chen then overheard that his supposed teacher intended to take the bloodline for himself. Pretending ignorance, he waited for the man to leave, expelled the poison placed in his body, collected the chamber’s medicinal herbs, and tunneled out beneath Suotuo City 34 35.

Luo Chen next located the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well. Rather than confront Dugu Bo, he hid underground with Dark Concealment until its owner departed. He entered the valley to collect immortal herbs, particularly the Snow-Colored Swan Kiss, which he hoped would strengthen his poison. Meanwhile, the Karmic Fire Scorpion Emperor entered the spring to awaken its power of destiny 36 37 38.

Appearance

• Exceptional beauty: Has finely drawn features and jade-fair skin. Tang San initially mistakes him for a girl, prompting Luo Chen to insist that he is “handsome” rather than “beautiful” 3.
• Increasing charm: Becomes more striking after his first Soul Ring. As his Nether God Bloodline awakens, his charm grows strong enough to unsettle even his Soul Douluo master 9 35.
• Poison-tempered body: At the introductory body-tempering stage, his skin carries a faint inky sheen and his muscles show traces of cold energy 15.

Personality

Luo Chen treats secrecy as a survival rule. He hides his second Martial Soul from the awakening deacon and reserves his stronger, origin-essence tail as a trump card. His knowledge of the original story makes him wary of Tang San and powerful figures such as Dugu Bo, but he acts decisively when escape is necessary 1 2 9 35 36.

He values research and practical knowledge over reputation. He reads the academy’s Soul Beast and Martial Soul collections before choosing his cultivation paths, rejects Yu Xiaogang’s authority, and refuses to accept a master solely because of superior strength. Although confident enough to challenge unusually old Soul Rings, he recognizes his poor combat technique after the Netherworld Stinger Scorpion fight and seeks arena experience to correct it 5 6 18 19 31.

His affection is clearest toward those he trusts. He promises to support the old village chief, makes arrangements for his care before leaving, and explicitly tells the Karmic Fire Scorpion Emperor that its safety matters more than precious Soul Bones 2 15 39.
