Gavin's Notes recorded many curses. The most complicated of them was the one Sean had chosen. Not only did it require the target's teeth, hair, and blood, it also required fresh blood from a sufficiently powerful magical creature. In exchange for such a cumbersome process and preparation, it offered the utmost secrecy.

This curse would only flare up at night, and it could only possibly be detected during its first onset. In other words, when Tarkoon woke in the middle of the night yesterday, that had been his last chance to survive. If he had gone to Madam Pomfrey then, there would still have been a chance for the curse on him to be discovered.

However, even if the curse had been discovered, it still could not be lifted without finding the place where Sean had cast it and destroying the Seed of Curse. Even if magical means were used to preserve Tarkoon's life, he would only be able to spend the rest of it in bed.

So, when Sean finished the curse and successfully returned to the Common Room and his own room, he knew that Tarkoon would no longer be an obstacle to him. It was at that very moment that Sean suddenly realized that, compared with the other three Houses, he truly was suited for Slytherin.

Standing in a corner of the Common Room, Sean watched as Tarkoon's body was taken away. His face showed just the right trace of worry and confusion, no different from the other helpless Young Wizards.
