Background / History
Tang Hao spent his youth in the Clear Sky Sect. He later traveled the continent with his elder brother, Tang Xiao, and their companion Ah Yin, whom he remembers as their “third sister.” His recollections contrast those adventurous years with his later conflict against Spirit Hall 8.
He became renowned as Clear Sky Douluo. Yu Xiaogang identifies him as the continent’s youngest Titled Douluo and the man who severely wounded Spirit Hall’s Supreme Pontiff, Qian Xunji. Tang Hao nevertheless retained serious hidden injuries from that conflict, which he had suppressed for years 2 16 22.
By Tang San’s childhood, Tang Hao was living as Holy Soul Village’s blacksmith. Tang San cooked their meals of thin porridge and pickles, while Tang Hao habitually ate the solids first and left his son the watery remainder. He also taught Tang San the Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer technique 3 16 23.
Appearance
Tang Hao is a middle-aged man whose already disheveled appearance deteriorates sharply after his injuries recur 2 8.
- Clothing: Coarse, hole-ridden clothes beneath a cloak; later wears a hood while begging 2 16.
- Hair and complexion: Unkempt hair compared to a bird’s nest and a sallow face 2.
- After paralysis: Withered body, crooked mouth, and askew eyes despite remaining mentally aware 8 19.
- Later injuries: Severe burns covering his body when he is carried away for treatment 30.
Personality
Tang Hao is intensely proud of his identity as Clear Sky Douluo. He believes even his death should be momentous rather than unnoticed in an alley. Being mistaken for a beggar enrages him, and being recognized by Tang San in that condition causes him to faint from shame 8 19.
His ambitions for Tang San are ruthless and possessive. He intends to kill Li Jin for growing close to Xiao Wu, whom he recognizes as a hundred-thousand-year Soul Beast. If Xiao Wu will not become close to his son, Tang Hao plans to imprison her and eventually kill her for her Soul Ring and Soul Bone 2.
He repeatedly blames Qian Xunji and Spirit Hall for his worsening condition, failing to recognize that renewed murderous intent toward Li Jin precedes his attacks. His resentment extends even to charity: Li Jin’s donation offends him because it means the boy has treated him as a beggar 8 16.
Abilities & Skills
Rank-94 Soul Power
Tang Hao possesses the cultivation of a rank-94 Titled Douluo, although his current condition makes that power unreliable 8.
- Flight: Flies out of Nuoding Academy after briefly recovering control of his body 8.
- Durability: Survives a fall of more than one hundred meters, though it causes substantial internal trauma 8.
- Historical combat strength: Severely wounded Qian Xunji during their earlier conflict 22.
- Current limitation: Attempts to mobilize Soul Power can cause it to rampage through his organs, leaving him unable to resist even ordinary restaurant workers 8.
Blacksmithing and Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer
Tang Hao worked as a village blacksmith and taught Tang San the Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer technique 16 23.
- The technique accumulates considerable force through successive hammer strikes 23.
- Its physical demands exhaust the hungry Tang San, whose uncontrolled hammer destroys a smithy’s furnace 23.
Hidden Injuries and Luck Backlash
Tang Hao’s old injuries become disabling after he targets Li Jin. Li Jin later attributes Tang Hao’s condition to the backlash suffered by those harboring malice toward him 2 20.
- Initial attack: Stagnant blood reaches his brain and blocks his nerves, leaving him unable to speak or move 2.
- Temporary recovery: His bodily control returns after Li Jin leaves Nuoding City 8.
- Relapses: Further threats against Li Jin coincide with berserk Soul Power, renewed paralysis, and eventually loss of bowel and bladder control 8 16.
- Awareness: He remains able to see, hear, and think during prolonged periods of immobility 8 19.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Failed Plot at Nuoding Academy
Tang Hao secretly watches events surrounding Tang San, Li Jin, and Xiao Wu. When Li Jin accepts Xiao Wu’s proposal to become his future wife, Tang Hao resolves to eliminate him. His hidden injuries immediately erupt, and a second attempt to sustain his killing intent leaves him paralyzed overnight in a dark corner of the academy 1 2.
Destitution in Nuoding City
After briefly recovering, Tang Hao decides to retreat to the valley behind Holy Soul Village, where Ah Yin remains. Another threat against Li Jin triggers a Soul Power disturbance during flight, sending him crashing into a city alley 8.
Unable to obtain food or defend himself, he is beaten unconscious by workers from Truly Full of Flavor. Su Yuntao leaves him two steamed buns; Tang Hao initially rejects them, then drives away a stray dog to secure the remaining bun 8.
Tang San subsequently passes him without recognizing him. Tang Hao is both hurt by this failure and relieved that his son has not discovered his humiliation. His anger toward Li Jin produces another disabling flare-up 16.
Discovery and Care
Tang San eventually recognizes his father beside the restaurant and brings him to Nuoding Academy. After cleaning him and borrowing clothes from Yu Xiaogang, Tang San shelters both men in Yu Xiaogang’s attic—only for the building to collapse on all three. The dean then provides replacement accommodations 19 20 21.
Once Yu Xiaogang learns Tang Hao’s identity, he eagerly assumes responsibility for his care and concludes, without evidence, that Spirit Hall arranged an ambush. Tang Hao cannot voice his disgust at Yu Xiaogang’s intrusive attention 22 23.
Tang Hao later suffers severe burns alongside Yu Xiaogang and Tang San following an explosion. All three remain unconscious while receiving treatment at a clinic 30.

- Yu Xiaogang — Tang San’s teacher and Tang Hao’s self-appointed caretaker. Yu idolizes him, while Tang Hao privately resents his condescension and unwanted familiarity 16 22 23.
