Background / History

Imperial upbringing and succession conflict

Dai Mubai grew up in wealth and privilege as the Star Luo Empire’s third prince, but he was not raised as an heir and received fewer cultivation resources than someone such as Ning Rongrong. Before his first Soul Ring absorption, he was neither particularly diligent nor accustomed to physical training outside cultivation 5 8.

His ability to perform Martial Soul Fusion with Zhu Zhuqing placed them within the imperial family’s succession-duel system. Zhu Zhuqing was assigned to become his fiancée, and the pair faced a future confrontation with their elder siblings, Dai Weisi and Zhu Zhuyun. Mubai feared the contest and explicitly did not want to fight his older brother, although he initially defended the family’s rules when Ning Yuhao criticized them 6.

Severing Martial Soul resonance

During a Soul Ring hunt on Weikesiluoke Plain, Mubai confronted Ning Yuhao’s table after noticing the group staring at him and Zhu Zhuqing. An argument with Ning Rongrong ended without escalating, and their escort, Liu Hu, formally introduced the two groups 5.

Ning Yuhao proposed escaping the succession contest by removing its prerequisite: Martial Soul Fusion. He theorized that the Dai and Zhu families maintained compatibility through prescribed Soul Beast choices, and that developing different attributes would disrupt their resonance. Mubai accepted his advice despite knowing Liu Hu would report everything to the emperor 6 7.

Mubai chose a Golden Claw Wolf to strengthen his Martial Soul’s metal attribute. After absorbing its ring, he sensed that his resonance with Zhu Zhuqing had weakened considerably and believed they could no longer use their fusion skill. Zhu Zhuqing’s subsequent absorption of a Shadow Cat ring eliminated the remaining resonance completely 8.

The emperor punished Mubai upon his return, but Dai Weisi intervened to shorten the punishment. Ning Yuhao continued advising Mubai and Zhu Zhuqing by letter on their second and third Soul Ring choices, helping them maintain their separation from Martial Soul sensing 9 10.

Leaving home and joining Shrek

Continued criticism from his father eventually drove Mubai to run away, despite his elder brother’s support. He later wrote to Ning Yuhao that he had joined Shrek Academy in the Heaven Dou Empire, praising its freedom and inviting him to visit when he turned twelve 10 19.

Giving up the succession duel earned Mubai substantial goodwill from Dai Weisi. His brother bought land around Shrek Academy, repaired the road to Suotuo City, and established shops and entertainment facilities. The settlement became White Tiger Village, transforming the formerly desolate area around the academy 19.

While living in Heaven Dou, Mubai frequently visited Ning Yuhao at the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect. Their friendship also helped Ning Yuhao obtain books from the Star Luo Empire’s collections 19.

Appearance

• Blond hair and mismatched eyes: Ning Yuhao used these traits, together with his privileged bearing, to identify his connection to the Evil Eye White Tiger lineage 5.
• Handsome features and luxurious clothing: At Shrek Academy’s entrance, his appearance attracted glances from women and girls in the registration queue 20.

Personality

Mubai is initially proud, quick-tempered, and easy to read. He reacts angrily to Ning Rongrong’s retort during their first meeting and bristles at criticism of his family. Nevertheless, he is willing to reconsider his position and seek help once Ning Yuhao offers a plausible alternative to the succession duel 5 6.

Relief from that pressure makes him noticeably more cheerful and playful. Ning Yuhao observes that his increasingly goofy behavior may reflect his natural personality without the threat of the heir contest. He expresses gratitude physically, celebrating the weakened resonance by hugging Ning Yuhao and repeatedly tossing him into the air 8 19.

He enjoys romantic and sexual pursuits, boasting in letters about an encounter with a maid and attempting to arrange a discreet welcome outing for Ning Yuhao. However, he also rebukes Ma Hongjun for openly leering at a Canghui Academy student 19 20 22 29.

At Shrek, Mubai shows concern for student safety and group cohesion. He stops remarks that could undermine unity, warns the applicants about Zhao Wuji’s strength, and offers to appeal to the dean if they cannot pass the assessment safely 22 23.
