Background / History

Bibi Dong’s Eldest Disciple

Before Jiang Huai’s arrival, Hu Liena was Bibi Dong’s only disciple. She belonged to Spirit Hall’s Golden Generation alongside Xie Yue and Yan, though the latter two trained under Yue Guan and Gui Mei respectively. Bibi Dong envisioned Hu Liena eventually inheriting the papacy, with Jiang Huai assisting her in governing Spirit Hall 6.

Hu Liena immediately welcomed Jiang Huai as her junior brother. At Bibi Dong’s request, she introduced him to Spirit City and showed him his courtyard beside her own residence. When he shared a purported body-tempering secret, she eagerly offered to pay for his cultivation supplies and accompanied him to purchase whale rubber 8 9 10.

Sunset Forest Soul Hunt

Hu Liena’s original cultivation path emphasized mental control, following theories Bibi Dong had adopted from Yu Xiaogang. Bibi Dong later reconsidered that approach, warning that exclusive reliance on mental control would limit Hu Liena’s future potential 9 13.

She accompanied Bibi Dong, Jiang Huai, and Yue Guan into Sunset Forest to obtain her third Soul Ring. Their search led to the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, where Yue Guan selected two immortal herbs for her and supervised their absorption. During Dugu Bo’s confrontation with Bibi Dong, he shielded Hu Liena from the battle’s aftershocks 14 15 16 17.

After obtaining her third ring, Hu Liena tested her strengthened charm on Jiang Huai without success. Bibi Dong explained that techniques effective against ordinary Soul Masters would not work on him 22.

Arena Training and Qian Renxue’s Attack

Back in Spirit City, Yan’s jealousy over Hu Liena’s closeness to Jiang Huai prompted him to challenge the younger boy. Hu Liena rebuked Yan for bullying her junior brother and supported Jiang Huai’s decision to accept the duel 23.

She later joined Jiang Huai’s six-person arena team with Zhu Zhuyun, Dugu Yan, Xie Yue, and Yan. During a fusion-skill sparring match, Qian Renxue attacked both Jiang Huai’s Hell White Tiger and the Demon Charm formed by Hu Liena and Xie Yue 31 35.

After separating from Demon Charm, Hu Liena placed herself in front of Jiang Huai and vowed to protect him in their teacher’s absence. She offered to fight alongside the others until Bibi Dong returned and intervened 36 37.

Personality

Hu Liena takes considerable pride in being the eldest senior sister. She enjoys Jiang Huai addressing her as such, readily offers him help, and treats his achievements as a source of personal pride. Her affection is also protective: she objects when Yan challenges him and stands between him and Qian Renxue despite the latter’s superior cultivation 8 9 20 23 36.

Her playful confidence can become competitive possessiveness. After her spiritual power increases, she tries to charm Jiang Huai and interprets her failure as a reason to cultivate harder. Zhu Zhuyun’s growing closeness to him provokes lasting jealousy; even five years later, Hu Liena remains resentful that her junior brother spends less time being affectionate with her 22 28 41.

She places substantial trust in Bibi Dong, accepting her teacher’s revised cultivation guidance despite being bewildered by its departure from earlier advice 13 21.
