Background
Following the merger of the Sun Moon Continent and Douluo Continent, the Sun Moon Empire repeatedly invaded the continent's three established empires. Shrek rallied resistance against these invasions, while the Body Sect and Du Busi provided crucial protection for the Heaven Dou Empire 11 38.
The Ming Dou Mountain Range lies along the border between the Sun Moon and Star Luo empires. A previous major battle there claimed the life of Ju Zi's father, an army cook killed by forces under White Tiger Duke Dai Hao. Despite this history, a ceasefire is in effect when Ju Zi leads her terrain-survey expedition into the mountains 4 6.
Leadership and Notable Personnel
- Unnamed emperor — Bedridden with illness, leaving court affairs to Crown Prince Xu Tianran 29.
- Xu Tianran — Crown prince and acting decision-maker. Opens the royal treasury to ransom Jing Hongchen while arranging Holy Spirit Cult assistance against Luo Feng. He has not yet fully consolidated power 29 36.
- Jing Hongchen — The empire's foremost Soul Engineer and a Level 9 specialist. He and his disciples designed the imperial military's Soul Tools; he retains essential blueprints rather than surrendering all his designs 26 29.
- Fire Phoenix Douluo — Commander of the Fire Phoenix Soul Engineer Legion, a rank-93 Titled Douluo, and a Level 9 Soul Engineer 11 12.
- Ju Zi — Academy survey-team leader and a friend of Xu Tianran. Her connection to the crown prince prompts an unusually extensive rescue operation after her disappearance; she later serves as the empire's ransom envoy 6 7 29 30.
- Jing Ziyan — Academy Soul Engineer who leads the effort to rescue Ju Zi at the Ming Dou summit. She survives the destruction of her squad through her smoke-transformation ability 7 8.
- Xiao Hongchen and Meng Hongchen — Jing Hongchen's grandchildren and outstanding members of the empire's younger generation. Their attempt to rescue him ends with both being captured 29.
Military and Soul Technology
Major Forces
| Force | Composition and Capabilities | Documented Outcome |
|---|---|---|
| Evil Eye Soul Engineer Legion | More than 300 elite Soul Engineers. Ordinary members are six-ring Soul Emperors or stronger; the commander and two deputies are Titled Douluos, while battalion commanders are high-level Soul Douluos. Its equipment and concentrated fire give its members confidence against even a Limit Douluo 28. | Destroyed by Luo Feng in the Far North; Jing Hongchen is captured 28 29. |
| Fire Phoenix Soul Engineer Legion | Commanded by Fire Phoenix Douluo, whose personal arsenal includes Level 9 Soul Tool weaponry 11 12. | Its commander is captured during her attempt to recover Ju Zi 12. |
| Ming Dou rescue squad | Coordinated airborne Soul Engineers led by Jing Ziyan, using Flying Soul Tools to surround their target 7 8. | Luo Feng kills the squad members other than Jing Ziyan 8. |
| Far North expeditionary army | More than 100,000 soldiers, accompanied by Holy Spirit Cult personnel wearing imperial uniforms 33. | Routed by the Far North's Soul Beasts; fewer than 500 escape alive 35. |
Notable Soul Tools
- All-Terrain Exploration Soul Tool — A spherical vehicle with room for roughly three occupants, spider-like mechanical legs, automatic weapons, and protective shields. Particularly suited to mountain travel 6.
- Flying Soul Tools — Used for reconnaissance, rescue, and legion deployment. Luo Feng's mountain and gravity techniques repeatedly disable or destroy their propulsion systems 7 8 28.
- Level 9 Soul Cannons — Fielded by leading specialists such as Jing Hongchen and Fire Phoenix Douluo. The latter's Fire Phoenix Sets the Plains Ablaze fills much of the sky with flame but fails to overcome Luo Feng's Mountain Suppression 12 26.
- God Sealing Altar — A sealing-type Soul Tool used by Jing Hongchen in his attempt to capture the weakened Snow Empress 26 27.
- Red Dust Protection — Jing Hongchen's Level 9 emergency defensive Soul Tool. It enables his initial escape from Luo Feng, though he is captured after their next confrontation 26 28 29.
- Radar and distress signals — Search personnel locate Ju Zi's vehicle by radar, while signals from the defeated summit squad alert further imperial forces 7 9.
Recruitment and Strategic Dependence
- Non-Soul Master soldiers — Military service offers ordinary people a route to comparatively high social status. The Ming Dou checkpoint's armed captain has no Soul Power 9.
- Dependence on Jing Hongchen — His unreleased technical knowledge makes his survival a strategic priority. Xu Tianran estimates that losing him would cut imperial combat strength by at least half and threaten the empire's ability to hold its territory 29.
Economy and Trade
- Cross-border commerce continues despite warfare with the other empires, maintained through families and merchant caravans 30.
- Purple-gold cards are accepted in the Sun Moon Empire and officially recognized by the other three great empires 30.
- Royal ransom resources include gold, rare ores, Soul Tool core components, and purple-gold cards. Ju Zi delivers hundreds of chests to secure the release of Jing Hongchen and his grandchildren 29 30.
External Relationships
- Star Luo Empire — Long-standing military enemy across the Ming Dou border. The capture of an important imperial figure forces the Sun Moon Empire to withdraw its defensive line and seek peaceful coexistence 6 11 13.
- Heaven Dou Empire — Target of imperial expansion, protected in significant part by Du Busi and the Body Sect 38.
- Shrek Academy — Historically rallies opposition to Sun Moon invasions. Although the academy appears neutral, its students aspire to fight the empire as their predecessors did 11 32.
- Holy Spirit Cult — Closely integrated military partner. Xu Tianran requests its experts' cooperation, but its withdrawal during the Far North battle helps trigger a wider imperial rout 29 33.
- Luo Feng — Repeated battlefield opponent and captor of important imperial personnel. As Vina's intended consort, he also regards weakening the empire as a service to Heaven Dou 12 29 32.
- Far North Soul Beasts — Enemies after the imperial army enters their territory. The Snow Empress and Ice Empress lead the counterattack 32 33.
Major Conflicts
Ming Dou Mountain Range
Ju Zi's survey team encounters Vina's party near the range's highest peak. Luo Feng disables its vehicles and forces Ju Zi to transport him to the summit. Jing Ziyan's rescue squad then attacks him, only to be destroyed by Mountain Suppression, leaving Ju Zi and Jing Ziyan alive 6 7 8.
During their descent, Dai Hao kills nine imperial checkpoint soldiers and intercepts the trio. Fire Phoenix Douluo arrives to recover Ju Zi, but Luo Feng and Dai Hao capture her instead. Following the capture of an important figure, the empire pulls its defensive line back 20 kilometers and sends an envoy seeking peaceful coexistence with Star Luo 9 11 12 13.
Jing Hongchen's Defeat and Ransom
In the Far North, Jing Hongchen attempts to seal the weakened Snow Empress. Luo Feng defeats him, but he escapes and returns with the Evil Eye Soul Engineer Legion. Its massed bombardment fails against Luo Feng's defenses; his gravity field brings its members down before ice-and-rock dragons overwhelm the force 26 27 28.
With the legion destroyed and Jing Hongchen captive, Xu Tianran authorizes payment while secretly seeking retaliation through the Holy Spirit Cult. Xiao Hongchen and Meng Hongchen's intervention adds them to the captives. Ju Zi ultimately delivers the ransom and escorts all three home, carrying Luo Feng's warning not to provoke him again 29 30.
Destruction of the Far North Army
After Long Xiaoyao retreats from Luo Feng, the Snow Empress learns that a large imperial army has entered the Far North. She mobilizes tens of thousands of high-level snowfield Soul Beasts, while Long Xiaoyao declines to intervene 32.
The Holy Spirit Cult's withdrawal spreads panic through the imperial ranks, and even military enforcement squads cannot stop the retreat. The Snow Empress later reports that fewer than 500 soldiers escaped alive from an army exceeding 100,000. These defeats leave the empire's foundations intact but threaten instability while Xu Tianran's authority remains incomplete 33 35 36.
