Power Progression

Su Yu develops along three separate cultivation paths: Qi refinement, spirit refinement, and body refinement. Entering the Spirit Realm through one path does not automatically advance the others 21 27 32.

Background

Su Yu transmigrates into the body of a trainee Demon Suppression Guard in Nanhe County, Tiannan Commandery. His predecessor had mediocre cultivation talent and was widely looked down upon. During a patrol, squad leader Zhao Lei knocks him unconscious and leaves him behind as bait for pursuing dog demons 1.

The body’s father, Su Daqiang, had supposedly died on a demon-extermination mission three years earlier. Lin Xiao later reveals that the Liu Family supplied the false intelligence that led his squad into an encounter with a Mystic Realm greater demon’s avatar. Su Daqiang had discovered evidence of the family’s collaboration with demons, making his surviving son a target as well 2 14.

Personality

Su Yu treats strength as the foundation of survival. Rather than relying on Lin Xiao’s promise of protection, he consumes his available treasures and advances his cultivation before the escort mission. He also views the Bureau’s authority pragmatically: official rank gives him legal grounds to act against enemies 5 14.

He is ruthless toward attackers and unmoved by their offers of money, status, sex, or mercy. Zhao Lei’s proposed payment, Liu Ying’s surrender, and Yue Rao’s seduction all fail to stop him. Even after extracting a spirit-refining technique from Yue Rao, he kills her rather than trusting her oath of silence 3 18 19 20.

His aggression is calculated rather than indiscriminate. He disguises his former squadmates’ wounds as demon attacks, withholds evidence to prevent the Liu Family from erasing its connections, and turns Yin Jiuyou’s Gu against him through misdirection 4 13 26.

Despite his self-interest, he refuses to abandon Lin Xiao and the surviving guards to the red-haired monster. Inheriting his predecessor’s memories also leaves him with genuine feelings for Su Daqiang, whose fate motivates a vow to destroy the Demon God Cult 29 31.

Survival and Retaliation

Su Yu awakens the Slaughter System while bound in a dog-demon cave, survives the pack, and returns to kill Zhao Lei, Skinny Monkey, and Old Li. After discovering the Liu Family’s involvement, he disguises the killings as demon attacks. His return to the Bureau leads to a confrontation with Wang Tai and promotion to squad leader 1 2 3 4 5.

Blackwater Village and the Escort Ambush

Accompanied by Tang Shan, Su Yu clears Corpse Dogs, slaughters demonized villagers, defeats Liu Family assassins, and destroys a demon corpse in an underground sacrificial chamber. He beheads the village chief serving as a Mystic Realm woman’s puppet—not the distant woman herself 7 8 9 12.

The subsequent escort mission becomes another assassination attempt. Su Yu kills Liu Xiong, defeats the Bone Apes protecting Yue Rao, and turns the ambush against Liu Ying and her guards. He emerges with Wandering Dragon Steps perfected and a spirit-refining cultivation art taken from Yue Rao 17 18 19 20.

Destruction of the Liu Family

After killing Liu Ang and advancing into spirit refinement, Su Yu destroys the demon puppet attacking the Bureau and joins the assault on the Liu residence. There, he confronts Su Daqiang’s reanimated body, kills Yin Jiuyou, and breaks Liu Tianjue’s defenses with his newly acquired blood formation 21 23 24 26 27.

When a Spirit Realm Fifth Level red-haired monster emerges, Su Yu remains behind rather than abandoning the guards. White Cat’s restraint gives him time to gain points from nearby zombies, advance his spirit refinement, and finish the creature. The victory brings a Shadow Guard invitation and first choice of the Liu Family’s confiscated treasures 29 30 31.

Cloud Wolf Mountain

Su Yu hunts the mountain’s demons and clashes with Mystic Sword Sect disciple Chu Jie over a blood wolf’s core. After killing Chu Jie and his companions, he continues hunting until the system’s update begins. He retreats when a Mystic Realm puppet awakens at the summit; it is later killed by a Tiannan Commandery commandant 36 37 38 40.

Black Demon Mountain Range

Leaving Nanhe County, Su Yu kills Zhao Ke and detours into the mountains to accumulate Slaughter Points. His resulting upgrades draw him into conflict with Mystic Sword Sect bounty hunters, including Xiang Kui 43 44 45 47.

A Ninth Level Three-Eyed Scarlet Tiger forces him to flee, and Chu He’s pursuit drives him into the inner region. While Lu Cang organizes a rescue, Su Yu makes his bargain with the Baleful Blood Mystic Serpent, seizes the Blood Baleful Intent Thorn, and escapes deeper into the mountains as the powerful demons fight 47 49 50.
