Background / History
Transmigration and Red Mountain Orphanage
Lu Chen previously lived in the Dragon Raja world, where he had not recovered his memories or remembered the novel's plot. He subsequently transmigrated into the Legend of the Dragon King era and spent six years at Red Mountain Orphanage after being found abandoned beside a road. He initially considered becoming a god as a possible means of returning home 1 10.
His Martial Soul Awakening brought him into a bone-strewn wasteland containing Nidhogg, the World Tree, and a tablet recording his fusion progress. Although his innate Soul Power was only rank five, the discovery of his bloodline's potential renewed his ambitions. He was the only child in his orphanage's awakening group to possess Soul Power 2.
At Red Mountain Academy, he discovered that proximity to Tang Wulin accelerated his cultivation. He later encountered Na'er, restrained his instinctive attraction to her bloodline, and brought her to the orphanage. Protecting her from threatening youths strengthened his determination to become powerful 3 5.
Forging and Departure for Eastsea City
Unwilling to burden the orphanage or depend on an organization's charity for a Spirit Soul, Lu Chen chose forging as his second profession. Zhang Yueyao arranged his introduction to Mang Tian, whose apprenticeship test he completed alongside Tang Wulin. Over the following three years, he saved thirty thousand federal coins for a random Spirit Soul draw 3 5 6 8 9.
Preparing to leave for Eastsea City brought his attachment to the orphanage into focus. He promised Lin Mengxi that he would return home when possible, while Na'er asked whether he would miss her if she left. Mang Tian supplied forging notes, a recommendation, and a storage device for his next stage of schooling 12 14.
Eastsea Academy and War God Hall Recruitment
Lu Chen entered Eastsea Academy with Tang Wulin. His involvement in a dormitory disturbance resulted in his assignment to Class Five, despite Long Hengxu believing his Martial Soul qualified him for Class Three. Under Wu Zhangkong, he began developing his combat technique and preparing for the class promotion tournament 16 18 32 33.
His forging talent attracted support beyond the academy. Acting on Zhang Yueyao's recommendation, Zhang Huanyun adopted him and made him an unofficial War God Hall member. Zhen Hua then accepted him as a disciple, while Long Tianwu became his guardian. These connections provided protection, rare metals, cultivation resources, and access to military forging assignments 26 27 28 32 35 36.
His bloodline also attracted Di Tian, who abducted and examined him. Its unfamiliar draconic pressure led Di Tian to suspect that he might be the Dragon God reincarnated; this remained a suspicion, not a confirmed identity. Gu Yue agreed to win him over and arranged his quiet return to the academy 38.
Class Tournament and the Guang Brothers
Lu Chen became a leading combatant for Class Five, defeating Class Four's team with one sword strike and later defeating Class Three alongside Gu Yue 40 46.
During a celebratory outing, he intervened when Guang Long assaulted Uncle Li over protection money. He overwhelmed Guang Long and gravely wounded him with Royal Fire, then contacted Long Tianwu to handle the consequences. When Guang Biao brought armed men and mechas to the academy, Lu Chen recorded the confrontation and deliberately provoked him while relying on Wu Zhangkong and Long Tianwu's presence as protection 42 43 46 47.
Later, Lu Chen experienced Nidhogg's memories of a bloody defeat. While he was immersed in the resulting despair, Nidhogg secretly consumed the divine power and Golden Dragon King bloodline within Tang Wulin's first seal. The energy restored part of the World Tree and indirectly raised Lu Chen's Soul Power to rank eighteen without his understanding the cause 49 50.
Appearance
- Childhood appearance: Closely resembles his previous-life mother, Su Xiaoyan, and retains the same appearance he had in that life. At six, he is described as exquisitely carved like jade 2.
- Build: Noticeably taller and bigger than his classmates upon entering Class Five 21.
- Eyes: Can change into crimson-gold dragon eyes displaying an imposing, sometimes furious majesty. Golden glimmers also appear during ordinary activity 3 6 21.
- Bloodline manifestations: Produces pitch-black mist and oppressive draconic pressure as Nidhogg's power becomes more active 34 42.
- Martial Soul: Initially an ocher earth dragon; later develops molten-red markings and dark scales before manifesting as a fearsome black dragon phantom 2 8 30.
Personality
Lu Chen combines an easygoing exterior with a calculating approach to survival. He prefers to conceal important abilities, assess the benefits of affiliations, and preserve his independence. He initially regards Tang Wulin primarily as a cultivation accelerator and does not consider himself responsible for solving the other boy's problems 20 25 38.
His affection for his caregivers and Na'er is more openly expressed. He shares food with Na'er, promises to protect her, and is deeply moved by Mang Tian's gifts. His early loneliness and desire to return home coexist with his recognition of the orphanage as his home in this world 1 5 8 12 14.
He strongly resents bullying, defending Tang Wulin from ridicule and reacting violently to Guang Long's abuse of Uncle Li. However, his confidence can become provocative when he knows powerful allies are nearby, as demonstrated by his deliberate confrontation with Guang Biao 3 21 42 47.
He is also playful, fond of watching commotions, and intensely enthusiastic about food. Even after gaining substantial financial support, his enormous appetite remains unchanged 17 40 49.
Abilities & Skills
Nidhogg Martial Soul and Bloodline
Lu Chen's Martial Soul is the incompletely recovered Black King, Nidhogg, rather than an ordinary Earth Dragon 21.
- Devouring: Consumes elemental attacks, absorbs escaping dragon-bloodline energy, and eventually draws ambient Soul Power toward him 30 34.
- Bloodline growth: Benefits from energy leaking from Tang Wulin and Gu Yue. Tang Wulin supplies more escaping energy, while Gu Yue's smaller contribution is exceptionally pure 34.
- Treasure nourishment: Red Jade Shrimp also strengthens his bloodline, demonstrating that dragon-bloodline energy is not its only source of growth 36.
- Strength and control: Possesses exceptional physical strength and nearly instinctive control over force, particularly suited to forging 6 13 42.
- Dragon Bone State: Uses this state while sparring with Wu Zhangkong; its outward pressure is perceived as intertwined Ultimate Earth and Ultimate Fire 24.
- Independent activity: Nidhogg can act without Lu Chen's awareness, as shown by its consumption of Tang Wulin's first seal 49 50.
- Emotional influence: Nidhogg's memories transmit overwhelming loneliness and despair to Lu Chen 49.
Word Spirits
Word Spirits are activated through dragon script and its corresponding spoken syllables. Lu Chen learns them through tablets, newly appearing patterns, and experimentation with the dragon tongue 7 25 47.
| Word Spirit | Documented applications and limits |
|---|---|
| Earth Vein Resonance | Senses soil, roots, rock strata, and the earth's rhythms. Its initial test consumes Spiritual Power; perception becomes clearer after reaching 14% bloodline fusion 7 34. |
| Earth vein manipulation | Offers earth-related control, but Lu Chen recognizes that misuse could exhaust his Spiritual Power and bloodline 8. |
| Royal Fire | Produces flames that can coat his sword or inflict severe penetrating burns. His alchemical sword allows chantless use 24 43. |
| Dustless Land | Creates an invisible domain that slows Wu Zhangkong during their spar. Its initial demonstrated diameter is ten meters, and Lu Chen subsequently expands it 24. |
| Earth Movement | A self-discovered application of dragon speech that raises an earthen wall. The wall absorbs more than half the force of one of Guang Biao's punches before shattering 47. |
| Bronze Throne | Covers his body in bronze-green defensive armor. It withstands a blow from Guang Biao, although the impact still makes his blood churn 47. |
| Instant / Setsuna / Kshana | Unlocked at 15% fusion. Provides sudden bursts of movement used to shield Uncle Li and evade Guang Biao 38 42 47. |
| Time Zero | Unlocked at 15% fusion. Initially kept secret while Lu Chen plans to practice activating and stopping it reliably 38. |
| Emperor | Described as suppressing and weakening people or beasts with draconic bloodlines. Lu Chen begins practicing it after reaching rank eighteen 50. |
- Other demonstrated Word Spirits: Myriad-Ton Bulwark and Chi 24 30.
- Power gap: His Word Spirits do not allow him to match a Soul Emperor outright; Guang Biao injures him without needing to use a Soul Skill 47.
Nibelungen
Nibelungen is Lu Chen's inner space, containing the World Tree and serving as a meeting place with Fenrir and Constantine 2 14 50.
- Enters through dreams or by directing his consciousness inward 2 28.
- Studies Word Spirits, practices forging, and receives alchemy instruction there 7 35 50.
- Can bring physical equipment into the space, including his storage devices and forging materials 14 24 28.
- Shares in the benefits of the World Tree's recovery, which contributes to his breakthrough to rank eighteen 50.
Forging and Dragon Clan Alchemy
His earth-and-mountain authority grants outstanding force control, while the power of Bronze and Fire sharpens his perception of metal grain and impurities. Constantine teaches him to use Soul Power to sense a metal's vibrations and guide its refinement instead of relying solely on force 13 19 20.
| Milestone | Details |
|---|---|
| Apprenticeship test | Completes five hundred hammer strikes with each hand in approximately twenty minutes 5 6. |
| First-Grade Thousand Refinements | Successfully refines heavy silver under Mang Tian's supervision 14. |
| Third-rank blacksmith | Earns recognition after his assessment and precise mecha-component work 19 20. |
| Zhen Hua's disciple | Receives the Divine Blacksmith's notes and a schedule allowing two days of instruction each week 28. |
| Military forging | Completes a Thousand Refinements assignment worth approximately two hundred contribution points 36. |
- Researches combining Dragon Clan Alchemy with human forging and Soul Guidance Devices 15 26.
- Helps Constantine modify his first storage device when Constantine cannot perform the work directly 15.
- Has not been documented achieving Spirit Refinement; Constantine's instruction introduces principles for further development 20.
Swordsmanship
- Uses an alchemical longsword with Royal Fire to combine direct blade attacks and elemental pressure 24 33.
- Earns praise from Wu Zhangkong for rhythm, sharpness, and technique beyond his peers 33.
- Initially lacks variation and loses effectiveness as his stamina declines during prolonged exchanges 33.
- Defeats Class Four's tournament team with a single sword strike 40.
Equipment / Weapons / Items

- Zhang Huanyun's storage device — Supplied with rare metals and cultivation resources. Constantine later places its alchemical modifications internally to conceal them 27 28 29.
- Soul communicator — Gift from Zhang Huanyun, bearing the Blood God Battalion emblem. Registered with the War God Hall for communication and mission access 27 35 36.

- Xie Xie — Friend and tournament teammate who admires his strength and frequently joins him for meals 16 28 40 49.
- Wu Zhangkong — Homeroom teacher and combat instructor. Corrects his swordsmanship and tells him that a devouring Martial Soul is not inherently evil if he does not use it to devour living people 21 33.
- Mang Tian — First forging master. Gives him practical instruction, notes, a storage device, and a recommendation for Eastsea City 5 14.
- Zhen Hua — Divine Blacksmith and later master, whose instruction and patronage greatly expand his opportunities 27 28 49.
