Brilliant lanterns lit the night, rows upon rows hanging along the long street. All manner of Revolving Lanterns adorned the little buildings lining the roadside as well.
The shops on both sides of the street were festooned with lights and decorations, their interiors filled with every imaginable kind of item—many of which Lin Shen had never seen or even heard of.
The strange part was that, on such a bustling city street, there was not a single person to be seen, nor could they hear much of anything.
The two proceeded down the street, warily surveying their surroundings at the same time, on guard against some bizarre thing suddenly charging out at them.
For the moment, they saw no bizarre things. They only saw all kinds of fruit, pastries, and meat displayed in the shops on either side, even suckling pigs roasted until they glistened with fat and filled the air with fragrance.
Lin Shen also spotted several gold shops. Their tables were piled with gold ingots and gold bars, left there so casually, without any fear of thieves making off with them.
Delicacies and gold ingots lay everywhere in the streets. Such a sight should have been exciting, yet Lin Shen and Wei Wufu found everything here unspeakably eerie.
Still, they could not afford to care about much else. They rushed toward the palace. Though it looked close, at their speed, they could cross not merely a city but even the two ends of a planet in an instant.
Yet as they sprinted at full speed down the long street, it seemed to stretch on without end, impossible to traverse no matter how far they ran.
"Did we really end up in a ghost city?" Lin Shen frowned slightly.
Everything here lay somewhat beyond his understanding.
