Under Darean's control, a massive beast condensed from blood kept attacking the walls of the Mushroom Capital. Defensive runes rose from within the masonry, lighting up layer upon layer, only to be extinguished one sheet at a time under the impacts.
On the walls, the Pujis poured Mushroom Cannon fire down at the blood beast below. One group ran out of mana, and another group of Pujis immediately moved up to take their place.
Some Pujis even jumped down of their own accord, then Self-Destructed when they got close to the enemy.
However, the Pujis were also enduring attacks from the sky.
The Blood Scions flew through the air, condensing long, slender Blood Arrows that came raining down from above.
When the Blood Arrows passed through the defensive Magic Array above the city, most of their force was shaved away, leaving them unable to directly kill ordinary soldiers—but they still had the power to instantly kill Pujis.
It was not that there was a problem with the Mushroom Capital's defensive system. When the city's defenses had first been designed, no one had imagined there would come a day when Pujis would serve as the main force defending the walls.
Fortunately, there were also illusion devices Eiding had set up on the walls. Large numbers of Pujis struck by Blood Arrows burst apart like Bubbles, mere Phantoms.
Even so, with every round of attacks from the Blood Scions, many Pujis still died. Among the Pujis on the wall that had been skewered into a mess was one wearing a maid outfit.
The doors of Puji House were shut tight, keeping the noise and chaos inside the city sealed outside.
