Abilities & Functions
Realm-Wide Broadcasting
The Heavenly Screen presents the same revelations to geographically separated audiences 2 39.
- Warlords in Yan Province, Ji Province, Yuzhou, Jing Province, and other regions watch its broadcasts 2 8 39.
- Its images are detailed enough for viewers to recognize Yang Feng and observe conversations, ceremonies, armies, and weapons 8 28 30 43.
- Yang Feng compares its clarity and scale to an exceptionally high-resolution cinema screen suspended across the sky 2.
Revelation of the Past and Future
The screen exposes public history, private circumstances, and events that have not yet occurred 3 9.
- Historical accounts: Recounts the Yellow Turban Rebellion, the upheaval following Emperor Ling’s death, the campaign against Dong Zhuo, and Emperor Xian’s exile 3 4 5.

- Future scenarios: Shows Yang Feng’s rise in Yizhou, the Heaven and Earth Cannon, Cao Cao’s northern conquests, and the approaching three-way division of the realm 28 30 43 46.
- Incomplete information: Explicitly lists Yang Feng’s dates of birth and death as unknown and sometimes leaves the motives behind predicted actions unexplained 9 27.
Serialized Presentation
The screen releases its account in installments rather than revealing the entire future at once 12 30.
- Text and images can freeze between revelations, leaving viewers to debate their meaning 6 23 41.
- Broadcasts end with notices promising continuation the next day, often immediately before an anticipated confrontation or explanation 12 30 46.
- Its presentation first encourages Yuan Shu’s belief that he is the chosen emperor, then explicitly rejects his claim and recounts his predicted downfall 5 6.
Uncertain Nature and Predictive Limits
- Yang Feng initially wonders whether the phenomenon is a system or a “Heavenly Dao livestream”; neither explanation is confirmed 1.
- The screen’s account is not identical to events unfolding around its audience. It shows Yang Feng becoming emperor in Chengdu after he has already been raised to the throne in Shouchun; Yan Xiang interprets the Chengdu sequence as another worldline 30 31.
- Its inevitability remains disputed. Emperor Xian hopes Liu Zhang can overturn its prophecy, while Yuan Shao attempts to prevent his predicted defeat by killing Xu You 13 47.
- The Heaven and Earth Cannon’s destructive power belongs to the weapon shown in the broadcast, not to the Heavenly Screen itself 43 44.

Influence on the Realm
Yang Feng’s Rise
The screen’s designation of Yang Feng transforms him from an obscure slave into a prospective sovereign. He recognizes that Yan Xiang and Ji Ling see allegiance to him as a better investment than continued service to the doomed Yuan Shu. Yan Xiang offers him protection, and the two officials subsequently maneuver to place him on the throne 10 12 13 18.
Its revelations also make him a target. Exposing his escape plans provokes Yuan Shu, while broadcasting his imperial ambitions and insults toward rival warlords increases hostility toward him. Yang Feng alternately condemns the screen for endangering his life and acknowledges the protection, prestige, and followers it brings him 8 9 13 28 31.
Yizhou’s Change of Allegiance
The broadcast publicly exposes Fa Zheng and Li Yan’s dissatisfaction and foretells their betrayal, leaving Liu Zhang fearful and distrustful. Fa Zheng then urges Li Yan to act before Liu Zhang moves against them. They kill Liu Zhang and offer Yizhou to Yang Feng, turning the announced future into an immediate political upheaval 24 33 34 36.
The screen’s title for Yang Feng also wins support beyond the officials. Chengdu’s commoners celebrate the new Yang banner because they believe their new ruler is the screen’s “one emperor through the ages” 39.
Strategic Decisions and Attempts to Change Fate
- Zhuge Liang — Describes the screen as the player determining the realm’s fate and its inhabitants as chess pieces. Yang Feng’s success through its momentum prompts him to set out to join Yang Feng 38.
- Yuan Shao — Orders Xu You killed after watching his predicted defeat, convincing himself that removing Xu You will prevent that outcome 47.
- Lü Bu and Chen Gong — Decide to seek allegiance with Yang Feng after the later revelations 47.
- Fa Zheng and Li Yan — Delay surrendering to Cao Cao because they still trust the screen’s appraisal of Yang Feng, while retaining surrender as a contingency if Great Yang loses 39 41.
- Jiangdong’s leadership — Uses the predicted three-way division to reason that Cao Cao cannot have destroyed Jiangdong at Red Cliffs 48.
