"Senior Brother Lü..." Lin Fan called out. When Lü Qiming saw Lin Fan, he stopped, then noticed the token hanging at his junior brother's waist and couldn't help smiling.
"Congratulations, Junior Brother Lin. You've become a First-Grade Outer Sect Disciple."
Lü Qiming didn't like showing off, but he still touched the brand-new token at his waist from time to time, proving that he, too, had become a First-Grade Outer Sect Disciple.
With his sharp eyes, how could Lin Fan miss that? He laughed. "Congratulations to you too. Haven't you also become a First-Grade Outer Sect Disciple, Senior Brother Lü?"
"Hahaha." Both of them burst out laughing.
They also compared their rewards, leaving Lin Fan thoroughly satisfied. It seemed the sect wasn't stingy with him alone-it was fucking stingy with everyone. Senior Brother Lü had only been awarded forty thousand Flame Magnificence Currency. Of course, the pills were exactly the same: six each.
"Where are you headed, Senior Brother Lü?" Lin Fan asked.
Lü Qiming smiled. "Since the rewards just came in, I thought I'd go to the Cultivation Technique Hall to exchange for a technique. Keeping this money on me is useless. I might as well use it to improve my strength."
As they continued talking, Lin Fan learned that the Human Grade, High Rank technique Lü Qiming wanted cost fifty thousand Flame Magnificence Currency, and he felt like cursing. The sect's brains really fucking worked. The rewards had barely been handed out before it found a way to swindle the money back.
Still, Lin Fan wanted to exchange for one too. After all, he didn't know any offensive techniques yet. Wouldn't people laugh if word got out?
"What about you, Junior Brother Lin?" Lü Qiming asked.
Lin Fan smiled. "I'm going to pick up some missions and see if there are any roaming bandits or the like."
Lü Qiming said with concern, "Then be careful, Junior Brother. It's best to team up with other fellow disciples. Some of these roaming bandits aren't weak. Going alone is too dangerous."
"Don't worry. I know what I'm doing," Lin Fan said with a smile.
Of course, he was only saying that. How could he possibly team up with anyone? Wouldn't that just let them steal his points?
With his strength, what trouble could he possibly have killing these roaming bandits?
The Flame Magnificence Sect's territory wasn't actually all that peaceful. The various cities might be safe, but outside them were plenty of people who murdered and plundered.
There were also wicked practitioners cultivating all manner of evil arts who remained wanted by the Flame Magnificence Sect. These targets served as trials for the disciples.
Of course, there was still danger. According to his memories, quite a few disciples died outside every year.
After parting with Senior Brother Lü, Lin Fan happily went off to pick up a mission.
His luck was good, too. He actually found a mission nearby. A band of roaming bandits appeared on a main road only a few dozen li from the sect. Many passing merchant caravans had died at their hands, and the mission reward was pretty good.
But none of that mattered to Lin Fan anymore.
Because he could truly go roaming to the ends of the earth now.
After accepting the mission, he left the sect directly.
However, Lin Fan hadn't read it all that carefully. The mission description seemed to mention bandits at the Body Tempering Ninth Layer.
As for the Flame Magnificence Sect, he wouldn't be returning anytime soon.
After all, wandering around outside until his strength reached a level that shocked everyone, then coming back to smugly show off, really did sound pretty good.
A few days later.
Lin Fan had arrived at his destination the day before, but he had been lying in wait there all this time. Now, the group ahead had become his targets.
One look at their builds and faces told him these people were no good. They were obviously roaming bandits.
As for their strength, did that even need saying? How strong could they possibly be? Enough talk. Just fight.
"Stop!"
At that moment, a voice of righteousness burst from Lin Fan's mouth.
The bandits had been laughing brazenly all along. Hearing that voice, they turned their heads and saw a man standing on a small hill in the distance, holding a nine-ring broadsword. His chin was slightly raised, and his deep gaze was filled with righteousness as he looked at them.
One tall, burly bandit wore a savage expression as he looked at Lin Fan with disdain. "Who are you?"
"Heh." Lin Fan sneered and patted the token at his waist. "See this clearly?"
A sharp-eyed bandit spotted the token and cried out, "Third Boss, he's a First-Grade Outer Sect Disciple of the Flame Magnificence Sect! The Flame Magnificence Sect must have sent people to surround and kill us! Let's run!"
"Run, my ass!" The Third Boss slapped his underling aside and said disdainfully, "Just you?"
Lin Fan felt his pose was pretty good. He smiled. "Of course. Just me. Isn't that enough to deal with bandits like you?"
"Let me count. One, two... You bandits are far too unprofessional. Just ten of you, and you dare rob merchant caravans? You're practically begging for death. Today, I'll harvest every last one of you. Got a problem with that?"
Lin Fan was extremely arrogant. He was a little disappointed in these bandits. They hardly seemed enough for him to cut down.
Even if he hacked all these fellows to death, how many points could he get?
But never mind. He might as well harvest a batch along the way.
"Third Boss, this brat's too arrogant. Let me kill him." Hearing that their opponent was alone, one bandit no longer felt any fear. The broadsword in his hand had long been thirsting beyond endurance.
"Mm." The Third Boss nodded. It was also a good chance to test the opponent's strength.
"Brat, you won't be leaving alive today." Flourishing his broadsword, the bandit chopped straight at Lin Fan.
Lin Fan looked at him and chuckled, then swung his nine-ring broadsword and hacked down hard. Blood immediately spurted out.
Points +30.
"Ah, little trash," Lin Fan sighed. Then he looked at the bandits and roared overbearingly, "Isn't there a single one of you who can put up a fight?"
The Third Boss looked at Lin Fan with an utterly calm expression, clearly thinking nothing of him. Then he clapped his hands. "Everyone, come out. Let's give this young fellow a proper welcome."
Lin Fan froze, not quite understanding. I've been following you for so long. There are only ten of you. Who the hell else could there be?
But just then, a scene that stunned Lin Fan unfolded.
Countless figures suddenly emerged from the bushes on either side. Just counting them at a glance, there had to be close to a hundred.
What the fuck? What's going on?
Seeing his bewildered expression, the Third Boss smiled. "Brat, I knew your Flame Magnificence Sect had listed us as a mission. I've been waiting for you to fall into the pit so I could kill you one by one. I just didn't expect some reckless greenhorn to dare come alone. Not bad. Admirable courage, but..."
"Hahaha! Even if more of you came, do you think I'd be afraid? Today, I'll show you what terror means."
Lin Fan had already been dumbfounded by the sight. What the fuck is this? With so many people, even with my Undying Body, I still couldn't fucking kill them all. But a man couldn't show cowardice. He had to win back some face on the scene.
Before the Third Boss could finish, the other man's demeanor stunned him. He hadn't expected this brat to still dare act so outrageously. Just as he was about to give the order for his men to hack the fellow to death, something happened that left him astonished.
After putting on a grand verbal show, Lin Fan didn't waste another word. He turned tail and ran. His figure vanished, and his voice drifted back.
"Just you fucking wait! I'll fucking come back in a few days and kill you!"
As far as Lin Fan was concerned, was his blood so easily shed?
"Third Boss, he ran!" a bandit shouted.
The Third Boss slapped his underling flying. "I fucking saw that! Do I need your bullshit? That damned Flame Magnificence Sect disciple! With so little courage, he still dared provoke me? He's practically begging for death!"
