"Senior Brother, may I ask who you are?" Bai Xin felt that such a learned senior brother must be extraordinary. Just a few words from him had brought Bai Xin a measure of understanding, so naturally, he wanted to make his acquaintance.
Lin Fan waved his hand. "Who I am isn't important. What matters is that our meeting today can be considered fate. We can have a chat."
He certainly wouldn't reveal his identity. He was doing something shady, after all. If he were discovered, he'd be screwed.
"Senior Brother, why exactly did I lose?" Bai Xin felt he had found a kindred spirit who understood him. He had so much on his mind that he wanted to pour out to someone.
Lin Fan asked in return, "Since you already know yourself, why ask me?"
"Yes, I know. It's all because the technique I cultivate isn't powerful enough. If I had a powerful technique, I definitely wouldn't have lost." Understanding dawned in Bai Xin's heart, but then he said regretfully, "But a powerful technique is so expensive. With what I've saved so far, I simply can't afford one."
"Sigh..."
That long sigh was full of heartache.
"Junior Brother, look at this." Lin Fan surveyed their surroundings. After making sure no one was around, he pulled open his outer garment, revealing a technique manual tucked snugly against his clothes.
Bai Xin froze, then blurted out, "A cultivation technique."
Lin Fan nodded in satisfaction and lowered his voice to a whisper. "The Mystic Grade, Low Rank Gale Sword Technique. It suits you very well, Junior Brother. Interested?"
Bai Xin swallowed, but upon learning that it was a Mystic Grade, Low Rank technique, he looked somewhat regretful. "Senior Brother, this is a Mystic Grade technique. You can only cultivate it after entering the Earthly Dipper Realm."
Lin Fan had known that all along, but he refused to believe his silver tongue couldn't sell it. "Then let me ask you: can you cultivate it or not?"
Bai Xin nodded. "Of course I can. It's just that without Yuan Power to activate it, its power will be affected."
"That settles it. Junior Brother, no matter how a technique changes, it never strays from its core. If you can grasp its essence, even if you can't use Yuan Power to unleash its full might, do you think it would be stronger than the sword technique you cultivate?" Lin Fan spoke very quietly, as though they were discussing something that couldn't bear the light of day.
"Senior Brother, you have a point." Bai Xin agreed.
Lin Fan felt the timing was about right, and they could get straight to the point. He really didn't believe he couldn't seal this deal. Then he let out a long sigh.
"Ah, our meeting was fate, and I feel as though we've been friends for years. Now that you're troubled over a technique, I can't just watch you die without lending a hand. I'll sell this Gale Sword Technique to you. Junior Brother, are you willing to buy it?"
"Senior Brother, you're really willing to sell it to me?" Bai Xin's breathing quickened, but then he lowered his head. "Senior Brother, I'm afraid I can't afford it."
Of course Lin Fan knew this fellow couldn't afford a house. A Mystic Grade, Low Rank technique-if you thought you could buy one for less than a hundred thousand, you were dreaming.
"Junior Brother, be honest with me. How much do you have?" Lin Fan only wanted to sell it cheap now. Whatever he could get would do.
Bai Xin said, "Senior Brother, to tell you the truth, everything I own only comes to a little over twenty thousand. I originally planned to save up slowly and buy a Human Grade sword technique."
"All right. You seem like a straightforward fellow, Junior Brother. Twenty thousand, and it's yours. How about it?" Lin Fan named his price outright.
"Huh?" Bai Xin froze, then his face instantly flushed red. "Senior Brother, this is a Mystic Grade, Low Rank sword technique. You're really willing to sell it to me for twenty thousand?"
Bai Xin could hardly believe it. This was a Mystic Grade, Low Rank technique! Buying it from the sect would cost an astronomical sum.
"Of course," Lin Fan said.
Bai Xin had never imagined that there could be such a kind senior brother in the sect. It was beyond anything he had expected.
Lin Fan looked around, then hurriedly took out the technique manual. "Junior Brother, hurry and inspect the goods. Let's make the trade."
Bai Xin took only one look before hurriedly taking out his savings. "Thank you, Senior Brother."
With his first deal a success, Lin Fan felt thoroughly refreshed. He rose and walked forward, then suddenly stopped and said in a steady voice, "Junior Brother, let me leave you with a few words."
Deeply grateful to this unnamed senior brother, Bai Xin nodded firmly. "Please go ahead, Senior Brother."
Lin Fan took a deep breath. "With no fear in your heart, a gentle breeze will come. On the road ahead, there will surely be many hardships and setbacks. Going down with the wind may be comfortable, but it won't take you very high. Climbing against the wind will hurt, but you will reach the mountaintop and see all the other peaks dwarfed below you. Hold a courageous heart, reign over all beneath heaven, and brim with vigor!"
"Plant a bodhi seed in your heart and work hard to water it. It will grow into a green tree offering shade, reaching toward the sun all the way."
Lin Fan continued forward, raising a hand and waving with his back to Bai Xin.
"Junior Brother, keep it up. I believe you'll succeed."
Bai Xin stood where he was, looking at that retreating figure cloaked in golden sunlight. His eyes grew moist. When had anyone ever spoken such inspiring words to him?
"Senior Brother, I'll do my best!"
He shouted. Failure was the mother of success, and he resolved to overcome his shortcomings and never fear failure.
"That felt fucking great. Twenty thousand in the bag." Somewhere deserted, Lin Fan put the money into his storage ring, then took out another manual, slipped it inside his clothes, and continued searching for his next target.
He had already copied out many versions of the Gale Sword Technique. As long as he sold them all, he would have nothing to worry about.
Still, he had to be careful. This was the sect. If he got caught, he'd be done for.
Just this once. Never again.
Quite a few disciples passed along the road.
Lin Fan specifically targeted disciples who cultivated sword techniques. As for the wealthy ones, he left them alone. With their attitudes, they probably really would look down on him, and might even report him.
Just then, a disciple carrying a longsword on his back caught Lin Fan's eye.
He hurried forward, and the two walked side by side.
The disciple turned and looked at Lin Fan in confusion, not knowing who this fellow was or what he wanted. But before he could speak, Lin Fan spoke first.
"Junior Brother, want me to show you something good?"
The disciple couldn't quite figure out what this man wanted, but still nodded. "What is it?"
While no one was paying attention, Lin Fan quietly lifted a corner of his clothes, revealing the technique manual tucked against them.
"A Mystic Grade, Low Rank sword technique. You know what I mean. Good stuff, right?"
His movements were furtive and his voice sleazy, just like those people selling watches and phones on the streets in his previous life, all operating on the sly.
"Hehe." The moment the disciple saw the technique manual, he broke into a brilliant grin. That grin was thoroughly sleazy, as though he had discovered something good, and even his gaze turned strange. "Good stuff. Definitely good stuff."
He understood now. This fellow was peddling cultivation techniques. It wasn't as though the sect had never had such people before, but after a crackdown, they had essentially all been wiped out.
He hadn't expected to be so lucky as to run into one himself.
Seeing that the other man wanted to buy, Lin Fan smiled brilliantly. "Junior Brother, come on. Let's head into an alley and take our time talking."
"Sure, sure..."
This went on until the sun set.
Lin Fan went somewhere deserted and removed his mask. Then he looked at the wealth in his storage ring, his face beaming.
He had really made a killing.
If he had known, he would have fucking made a few more copies.
Although he had sold some for just ten thousand, it was all money.
Selling the Gale Sword Technique alone had earned him two hundred thousand in Flame Magnificence Currency. This rate of accumulating wealth was simply too fast. Now he had enough to buy that pill.
He felt delighted.
Meanwhile, elsewhere.
A disciple led the senior brothers from law enforcement to the place where Lin Fan had first sold his manual. "Senior Brothers, I spotted a disciple privately selling cultivation techniques just now, but I don't know where he went."
The senior brothers from law enforcement exchanged glances. This matter required a thorough investigation.
Fortunately, Lin Fan stopped selling after this one round. If he had kept going, he really might have been finished.
