Seeing how earnest and anxious they all looked, Yun Manman smiled and coaxed them,
"I'll choose their formal names. Father and Mother can choose the eldest's nickname, and Zewu and Zeren can choose the second's. Will that satisfy you?"
They all nodded in satisfaction.
Then the room instantly fell into an eerie silence.
Zewu and Zeren crouched in a corner, thinking as though they were facing the wall in repentance.
Old Father Yun looked at the eldest in his arms. Those sparkling purple eyes were truly endearing. He had to choose a good name.
And so everything Old Father Yun had learned in his life flashed through his mind.
"Purple Egg? Grape Egg? Purple Eyes? Purple Lad? ..."
Just as Yun Manman was deep in thought, the shocked voice of the resentment in her space rang out.
"This is serious! Someone harbors extremely deep resentment toward your sons. This resentment arrived shortly after they were born. Good heavens, I've never seen such intense, powerful resentment in my life. Hiss... so scary!"
Yun Manman's gaze instantly turned cold.
"How do you know they brought it on? Besides, they were just born. Where would they get enemies?"
"The little brats' resentment is golden, while yours is white. Master, the person this resentment belongs to must be someone important. You must be careful!"
A thoughtful look flickered through Yun Manman's eyes.
After a long while, she composed her expression and raised her eyes, resting her gaze on the two children. For the first time, her voice was tender with love.
"The elder brother will be called Yun Rui. I hope he'll be steadfast and decisive, principled and composed, wise and far-seeing.
"The younger brother will be called Yun Xiao. I hope he'll be free-spirited and unrestrained, with lofty ambitions and a broad heart."
Yun Mo and Yuanwei exchanged a glance and nodded repeatedly. When it came to choosing names, Sister Man had no equal!
Yun Zeren's eyes were filled with admiration. He, too, had to become someone as learned and knowledgeable as his sister.
Old Father Yun also nodded repeatedly as he listened, lightly touching the two children's cheeks.
"Manman, you've chosen such wonderful names. Just hearing them tells me these two grandsons of mine definitely won't be cut out for farming!"
Hearing her father's words, Yun Manman chuckled, a mischievous glint in her eyes. "Father, have you thought of a nickname for Yun Rui?"
"I have. Let's call him Big Treasure, his grandpa's big treasure!"
Yun Zewu's eyes lit up, and he immediately spoke up. "I've thought of one too. Yun Xiao will be Little Treasure."
Yun Manman looked at the two uncomprehending babies. If they accomplished something in the future,
wouldn't a single "Big Treasure" or "Little Treasure" strip away any glorious image they had?
But looking at those two pairs of pure eyes, filled with joy and seeking praise, Yun Manman could not bring herself to refuse.
"They're wonderful names. You can tell just by hearing them that they're the family's treasures. Then from now on, Yun Rui will be Dabao, and Yun Xiao will be Xiaobao."
Identical proud expressions appeared on their similar faces, and neither could hide the smugness in his eyes.
Neither noticed that Yun Manman had quietly twisted their words.
But in their minds, Big Treasure and Little Treasure meant the same as Dabao and Xiaobao. Either way, they were treasures.
Early the next morning,
apart from households on bad terms with the Yun Family, every household received celebratory sweets from Yun Manman.
At the same time, everyone in the village learned that Yun Manman had given birth to two big, plump boys the night before.
Some were envious, and some were jealous.
There were even people who regretted it. Had they known that lass from the Yun Family was so good at bearing sons, how wonderful it would have been to marry her into their family back then.
...They could eat farts if they thought that would happen!
Regardless of what outsiders thought, Yun Manman spent her postpartum confinement comfortably at home. She also chose to nurse both children herself.
She also called over the clever-handed Yun Chuan and guided her in making a simple juicer, planning to squeeze juice from the Returning Lotus Fruit to feed the two treasures.
The Returning Lotus Fruit was not an ordinary fruit. It could cleanse the marrow and temper the sinews, and was something nurtured by the space. Guagua said the children could drink its juice without any problem, and that it was good for their bodies.
Using the head of the bed as cover, Yun Manman took the concealed-weapon designs she had drawn out of her space and looked at the girl before her, who was only thirteen.
"These are concealed-weapon designs I drew. There are five simple concealed weapons on them. Try making them. Yun Chuan, can you do it?"
Yun Chuan's large, clear eyes fixed on the drawings. After a long while, she came back to her senses, delight bursting from her eyes.
"Sister Man, I love these things. Can I really do this?"
Yun Manman nodded firmly, encouragement and trust in her purple eyes. She handed the drawings to Yun Chuan and spoke with certainty.
"Yun Chuan, I believe you have the talent and ability. I'll await your good news."
"Sister Man, just watch. I certainly won't disappoint you."
By the end of her postpartum confinement, Dabao and Xiaobao had both grown a little. Nourished by the Returning Lotus Fruit, they looked like little immortal children carved from pink jade.
Yun Manman called a family meeting and gave strict orders: no one outside the family was allowed to touch the children. They were only to be taken around the courtyard and absolutely must not be carried into the village.
She did not want to test how ruthless people in ancient times could be. Yun Manman also summoned several people from various places to take sole responsibility for the two boys' safety.
Not long after her postpartum confinement ended,
Yun Manman prepared to lead everyone through high-intensity training.
Over the past year, everyone had undergone a fundamental transformation, aided by the Returning Lotus Fruit's ability to cleanse the marrow and temper the sinews.
Now none of them were weak in martial arts, and each also had skills they specialized in.
Standing on the training ground, Yun Manman looked at the perfectly aligned ranks before her. Her cool voice carried an inherent authority.
"Starting now, I'll teach you speed, strength, agility, and killing moves, so that even when you've exhausted yourselves and lost all your martial arts, you can still stand undefeated."
"Yes! Yes! Yes!"
After a month of training,
Yun Manman saw that everyone had improved in every area, and satisfaction flashed through her eyes. These thirty-three people were the ones she had personally trained most often.
"Today, we're moving our training grounds deep into the mountains. Your opponents will no longer be familiar people, either. Are you afraid?"
"No!"
Traveling light, the group set off at a run. They did not pause at all as they passed the fields, chanting slogans in unison as they ran toward the depths of the mountains.
Watching everyone leave, Old Woman Shen rolled her eyes sideways. "Village Chief, Auntie Chen, you really are carefree. They're heading deep into the mountains!"
The village chief continued digging up the large cabbages buried in the ground without even raising his head. Auntie Chen glared at Old Woman Shen and said coldly,
"Old Woman Shen, what business is it of yours where my sons go? Since Lass Yun took them into the mountains, she'll certainly bring them out safely. Stop trying to sow discord."
"Hmph, don't mistake a kind heart for ill intentions. You handed two perfectly good grown sons over to the Yun Family. They're never home, and they have no manners. They don't even know to greet you when they see you. I suppose the Yun Family are their parents now?"
Looking at the shrew opposite her, Auntie Chen spoke with no small amount of pride.
"My two boys now have both martial skills and learning. I couldn't be happier. Can that gluttonous, lazy son of yours do any of that? Hmph!"
The mention of this made Old Woman Shen even angrier. That good-for-nothing son of hers had gone for one day back then and refused to return to the Yun Family even if it killed him, complaining about how tiring and hard it was.
At the thought, she angrily threw her hoe to the ground.
"Ow!"
With that cry of pain, it turned out the hoe had chopped into her foot.
Old Woman Shen stood there panting with anger. With the village chief opposite her, she could not go too far with her words.
As for the Yun Family, she no longer dared curse them at all.
Old Woman Wang, who used to be willing to listen to her grumbling, had actually lost her tongue.
She kept telling the villagers that the Yun Family had done it, but no one believed her.
