It's like Christmas over there, all chattering and chattering.
Cooper muttered to himself.
However, looking at how excited these people were, he couldn't help but think of his former self, who was once a passionate young man.
He joined NASA with boundless enthusiasm, becoming one of the few astronauts at the time, hoping to one day find a new home for humanity. Unfortunately, his first spacecraft mission ended in an accident, forcing him to retire. He then returned to farming, incidentally using his engineering knowledge to tinker with farm machinery... xS12
He had thought that coming here to participate in Plan C would rekindle his former passion, but when he arrived, he found that the situation was completely different from what he had imagined.
Nothing else has changed.
Professor Brand is still determined to save humanity, and he even has a beautiful daughter helping him.
NASA secretly built such a large base, also working towards the future of humanity.
There were also some familiar faces; everyone was there, and apart from their appearances, they all seemed unchanged...
Only he himself changed.
He thought that coming here would allow him to rekindle his former ambition and passion.
But after arriving here and experiencing what had just happened, he realized that his passion had long since cooled.
If it were a decade or two ago, when he was still an astronaut, he would have stood by Professor Brand's side without hesitation, even if it meant losing his life, let alone the risk of treason.
But that won't work now.
He has a family and children.
No matter how appealing Plan C sounds, or how loudly it's proclaimed, he can no longer act rashly as before.
While Cooper was secretly grieving, the climax seemed to have passed on the other side; people had quieted down, only signing some kind of document with excited expressions on their faces.
Jody left the conference room with a satellite phone.
The people around Cooper were also getting restless. They hadn't heard what Professor Brand and Amelia said, but judging from their expressions, it seemed like Plan C was really powerful?
Some people are already discussing whether or not to change their minds.
Cooper closed his eyes and ignored him.
His heart is only for his family.
A short while later, Jody returned, locked the door, and nodded to Professor Brand.
Then the old professor walked up to Cooper and the others with a smile, Amy
Leah followed behind him, carrying the remaining copies of the agreement, and distributed one to everyone as usual.
" Plan C is about to begin, and we are about to leave. If you decide to change your mind, you must sign these documents before coming back."
Cooper's file folder was given to him personally by Professor Brand, who also chatted with him for a bit.
Cooper felt something was off.
Leave here?
Does it mean leaving the meeting room?
Should we still leave the base?
Suddenly, Cooper remembered that Professor Brand had said participating in Plan C was tantamount to treason, but there must be a prerequisite for treason, right?
Shouldn't we at least leave North America first?
Otherwise, in this day and age, how can one rebel?
Even though there's no army now, if someone really wanted to deal with these unarmed people, it would still be a piece of cake.
Unfortunately, Professor Brand didn't give him a chance to ask a question. He turned around and walked directly to the pile of documents in the conference room, as if waiting for something.
The others, too, held their breath and waited.
The conference room, which had been bustling with chatter just moments before, suddenly fell silent, which felt quite unsettling.
Just as Cooper and the others were wondering...
Wow!
Suddenly, a pure blackness unfolded before Professor Brand. The lights in the room seemed to be drawn away, and reflections from many objects were lost, causing the surroundings to darken instantly.
"What is that?!"
Cooper blinked a few times to make sure he wasn't seeing things. The people around him had obviously seen the black, unidentified object as well, and everyone was a little panicked.
Professor Brand, however, beamed with delight, staring intently at the screen. "Is this their Spacetime Tunnel?"
His daughter Amelia, supported him, also smiling, "Yes, this is the Spacetime Tunnel I saw last time. As members of the Mutual Aid Society who signed the agreement, we can simply walk through it to reach another parallel universe."
Jody added, "According to the plan, we will use a parallel universe as a transit point, and then return to our own universe through a Spacetime Tunnel."
"Alright!" Professor Brand's eyes were full of anticipation for the future. "Then let's go!"
As he spoke, he took the lead and walked over with some of the documents.
In the blink of an eye, Professor Brand's figure vanished from time and space.
Inside the tunnel.
Everyone who saw it couldn't help but gasp in surprise.
Cooper moved to a spot where he could see beyond the tunnel, only to discover that Professor Brand hadn't been blocked by the tunnel at all; he had simply vanished into thin air.
"WTF..." Cooper couldn't contain his surprise, "What's going on?"
He looked at Amelia, only to find that the scholars and engineers around her were also pushing carts of documents, heading straight for the Spacetime Tunnel, and then disappearing completely from the conference room, just like Professor Brand.
The scene before him left him completely stunned.
Professor Brand alone is one thing, but why did everyone else disappear as well?
But no one paid him any attention. Everyone was pushing their carts, excitedly carrying their documents, towards the Spacetime Tunnel. Before long, only Jody remained out of the thirty-odd people.
Only then did Jody turn around and give one last instruction. "This is Spacetime Tunnel. It leads to another parallel universe. We'll be waiting for you there."
"The tunnel will last for three minutes. If you decide to come along, remember to sign the agreement in your hand first, otherwise you will not be able to safely pass through the Spacetime Tunnel."
After saying that, he turned around, pushed the last cart of documents, and crashed into the Spacetime Tunnel, disappearing from sight.
Only then did Cooper realize the truth.
" Spacetime Tunnel?"
"That's a wormhole!!!"
The remaining twenty people in the conference room immediately rushed forward, their hearts pounding. Looking at the file folders in their hands, they suddenly felt as if they had just missed something.
Cooper is an example of this.
He pulled out the documents from the bag and fell into a dilemma.
On one side is family, on the other is the future of humanity.
His mind is completely blank right now; he can't make any sense or analyze the pros and cons.
But his instincts told him that following them was the right thing to do!
Just follow them!
Don't hesitate any longer.
He only has three minutes!
Tick-tock~
A clock hangs on the wall, its second hand ticking.
Cooper glanced up, gritted his teeth, grabbed a pen from the conference table, quickly opened the agreement, and signed his name on the last page.
Joseph Cooper.
The next second, he rushed into the Spacetime Tunnel!
------Aside------
I didn't have time to write during the day, it's a bit late.
